What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Even More Cakes That Fail Hilariously At Looking Like The Things They're Supposed To Look Like

Back by popular* demand! A brand new edition of Cakes Failing To Look Like The Things They're Supposed To Look Like!

[*The cats liked it.]

A Shamrock:

When the luck of the Irish has a bad day.
And then gets all its limbs cut off.

Balloons.
Literally the easiest thing you can make with cake:

WE'RE DOOMED.

A Football Helmet:

Alien skull. Final answer.

Flip-Flops:

If these look right to you, then someday you're going to make a podiatrist very, VERY happy.

Basketballs:

Or stick figures with no faces.

A School Bus:

Or so they claim.
I'm convinced this is actually a platypus named School Bus. See the little nostrils?

A Baseball Glove:

For the longest time I thought this was supposed to be turkey.
Then I saw the fingernails.

BONUS POP QUIZ!

Can you guess what this is supposed to be?

How about this one?

Answers in the comments!
Assuming someone guesses right!
[wicked grin]

Thanks to Anony M., Jennifer M., Matt M., Katie T., Maggie P., Sally N., Tracie T., Jennalee, & Lauren L. for the excuse to use John's favorite post title again.

Note from john: Someone just told me they were done with Cake Wrecks because Jen didn't give you guys the answer in the comments in a timely manner. Honestly, we thought it was fun seeing your guesses. Well, as far as we know, it's the Mad Men logo and a teapot. Unless we're wrong. Merry Christmas!

The last one - a teapot?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCC

Got to be a baseball bat and a teapot!

Duck and tea pot?

Duck and tea pot?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

1st bonus: literally no idea
2nd bonus: a teapot?

Also, that is definitely a platypus. And I'm pretty sure the "baseball glove" is growing mold.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteralyssaj

The last one's a teapot! Not necessarily a teapot that one could pick up and pour from, but there are enough clues for me to guess. On the second-to-last one -- I got nothing. The first thing to pop into my head was a really stretched-out duck silhouette.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMary

If you turn the baseball glove one upside down you have an udder. A scary, deformed udder.

As for my guesses I'm thinking a penguin sliding on its belly. The second one is a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTrista

First one: long black duck. Or shadow figure lying on a psychiatrist's couch while wearing a dunce cap. With a serious crick in his neck.
Second: teapot?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLongtime Lurker

Is the second one a teapot? The first one looks like a whale with a birthday hat. Or a big red zit.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKelli

OK, the first one is a guy in a coffin. #2 is a teapot...do I win?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTo

I'm guessing the second pop quiz entry is supposed to be a flowery teapot maybe? The first is OBVIOUSLY a corpse getting ready to rise from the dead with a party hat on his head! :)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHaley

First Bonus: No clue! Maybe one of those noise-maker party favors?
Second Bonus: A teapot!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRosi

The first one is the profile is a dead gnome. The second one is a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

I'm going to say; Drag race car and tea pot for the last 2 respectively. However it could be a "dunce" in his coffin, and a fooofy princess dress.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterShirley Fowley

Ok, Ok... I'm guessing the first one is an elderly earthworm with a birthday hat and the second is a fancy schmancy tea pot?
Ding Ding Ding?!?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLindy

Second one is clearly a teapot. The first one I think is supposed to be a Pileated Woodpecker.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJulia

Answers to the pop quiz: First, it is a base ball bat, with a base ball that is wearing a party hat. Second, an odd tea pot.

A Duck and a Tea Pot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

A Duck and a Tea Pot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

Would *like* yo think they're the sexy man on bear rug variation (this time on happy birthday bed) and a teapot.

Don't look like either.

There WERE baseball mitts that didn't have webbing and were five fingers way back in the start of the sport, bit this one still of by 400 feet....

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMel

The first one is a duck. Or is it a brown M&M wearing a gnome hat riding a baluga whale?

The second is "clearly" Cinderella's pumpkin carriage. Or maybe not.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTony

I don't watch much tv, but the first bonus one looks like the Mad Men Logo.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTerri M

*Raises hand*
Uh, yes, but why would a baseball glove have fingernails?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMinda

The last one is obviously a tea pot. All of the previous posters can't be wrong! Bonus feature: It's on wheels! Whee. "Hellooo--? You, on the other end of the table? Be a lamb and roll the tea down to me? Thanks ever so much." ( Hope this doesn't turn into an "EP-POT"...) =^~.~^=

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Batmobile and a teapot.

Respectively.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBea

I was thinking the first is a penguin? A really long, weird penguin.
The second, I could totally see a princess carriage.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterkrystal p

Is the first pop quiz a...pipe?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMisMom

That top one's a nice tree, but trunks aren't usually green too. Just leaves.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterOlivia

I'm going for loon (because, hello! Crazy as a ....) and teapot. Or extra-fancy chamber pot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterElissa

OMG... The second to last one isn't supposed to be Mad Men, is it?? The silhouette of Don Draper with his arm over the chair... With a party hat... Ugh. That's it, isn't?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

huh. i thought the 2nd one was a pumpkin w cinderella popping out of it....
...but i guess it's a teapot. :)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersj

Obviously the first one is an Egyptian hieroglyphic of a guy (I think the Egyptian kings were called "guys", right?) reclining on a couch, party hat attached by a rubber band. The second one has to be the Enterprise (the star ship, not the aircraft carrier) because it is going in a direction no one has thought to go before. And for good reason.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAdrian

I'm going to be geeky for a second . . . I really think that first one is the profile of the Star Wars species, Ortolan, with the long nose. I would include a picture but can't. You can just google "Star Wars Ortolan." The black ball is the eye and the red represents his ear . . Just tell I'm wrong! :)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuzy

I've seen enough bad cakes to know that the first one is a lonely Shriner, and the second one is a baby carriage, It looks too much like a teapot to really *be* a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersvf

It's a dead duck, because it's a "milestone" birthday usually celebrated with black balloons and over-the-hill cakes. You know what Maxine says..."I'd rather be over-the-hill than buried under it."

And a teapot. Or a magical mirror.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNancie

Pop quiz answers
The Mad Men logo (only birthday themed)
Aaaand probably a teapot, like everyone else has said.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSterling

Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo having a lie down? And a teapot. Yes.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

1st one is Moby Dick and 2nd one is a teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterlaurie

I don't see a duck at all on the 1st pop quiz one. A whale, maybe. But I'm guessing a pipe, ahem, of some kind. I can't say the 2nd one looks like a teapot, but that would be my guess of what it is supposed to be.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

First one, I think is a Madmen logo. Guy with an arm on the couch with an added party hat and letters. Like this: https://d3ui957tjb5bqd.cloudfront.net/uploads/2013/09/mad-men-logo.jpg

Then again, I may be looking for logic in all the wrong places.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDanielle

The first one is the Don Draper shadow from Mad Men Logo.

I'll go with the tea pot for the second one.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCCD

Maybe those aren't "fingernails" on that "turkey"...and maybe that's not a baseball glove, either. Maybe it's a condom for quintuplets who don't mind sharing. Maybe I'm even more twisted than I thought.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

The second one: definitely a teapot.

The first: I'm thinking a dachshund with a party hat.

Maybe?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKristin

One is supposed to be the Mad Men logo!!! I don't know why they added the party hat, though.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMolly

"Why a duck?" (to quote one of the lamer Marx Brothers jokes). I think the first of the unidentifiables looks like a rather abstract representation of a hash pipe. Please don't tell my kids I said this.
The second one is some kind of bracketed teapot which would be impossible to pour, even if it weren't made of cupcakes.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPersephone

The second to last one is supposed to recall the Mad Men title logo, with Don in a snappy party hat.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHirayuki

2nd to last cake: embalmed Lenin laid on on a mortuary slab in a party hat.

Last Cake: anthropomorphic teapot doing a racy "boudoir dance" for that special someone

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPrincess Fiona

Sorry my guess posted 4 times at least. Every time I tried to post it came up with an error. So I tried it a few more times. But I guess they did post after all. Sorry!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

I had to go and look. Oh God, it really is meant to be the Mad Men logo.

Also, I think Angela's fairly sure it's a duck and a teapot.

;)
