What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Even More Cakes That Fail Hilariously At Looking Like The Things They're Supposed To Look Like

Back by popular* demand! A brand new edition of Cakes Failing To Look Like The Things They're Supposed To Look Like!

[*The cats liked it.]

A Shamrock:

When the luck of the Irish has a bad day.
And then gets all its limbs cut off.

Balloons.
Literally the easiest thing you can make with cake:

WE'RE DOOMED.

A Football Helmet:

Alien skull. Final answer.

Flip-Flops:

If these look right to you, then someday you're going to make a podiatrist very, VERY happy.

Basketballs:

Or stick figures with no faces.

A School Bus:

Or so they claim.
I'm convinced this is actually a platypus named School Bus. See the little nostrils?

A Baseball Glove:

For the longest time I thought this was supposed to be turkey.
Then I saw the fingernails.

BONUS POP QUIZ!

Can you guess what this is supposed to be?

How about this one?

Answers in the comments!
Assuming someone guesses right!
[wicked grin]

Thanks to Anony M., Jennifer M., Matt M., Katie T., Maggie P., Sally N., Tracie T., Jennalee, & Lauren L. for the excuse to use John's favorite post title again.

Note from john: Someone just told me they were done with Cake Wrecks because Jen didn't give you guys the answer in the comments in a timely manner. Honestly, we thought it was fun seeing your guesses. Well, as far as we know, it's the Mad Men logo and a teapot. Unless we're wrong. Merry Christmas!

I saw a gray whale in a Santa hat and a Cinderella carriage with no wheels.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKara

A moorhen - it has the right colourings, if not body proportions! - and the teapot from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterUrgo

I agree with most everyone about the second one.. a teapot. But the first one... well you'd have to have balls to get away with that one. Canon balls, that is. I think it's a cannon firing.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHilary

@Terri M. Oh my gosh, I think you're right (as were many after you). I had to google the Mad Men logo but now I agree that is totally what the decorator was going for...with a birthday theme.

Man, and I really wanted to be right with my penguin guess.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTrista

First one: dead seal wearing a party hat.
Second: teapot! (and I did figure that out before reading the comments)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Luger and a teapot?

And why does the baseball glove have fingernails? Eww

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRaybob

Also thought the first bonus was a black duck, but now I agree it's the Mad Men logo with a birthday theme. Teapot for the second, although a crazy Barbie dress would also work.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCakeWreckFan

By George, I think Susan has it! And she's correct, it's simply horrifying.
Now give that girl her sprinkles!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

No no and NO wtf is wrong with these bakers? D:

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

First one is a seal wearing a party hat.
Second one is, obviously, a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterElizabethAnne

First is a cigar. The second I thought was Cinderella's coach, but now agree that it's a teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLori

That last one reminds me: I really need to buy a new toilet seat cover.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterms_xeno

I vote Gru silhouette with birthday hat(tip your head). And carriage.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSnagandorf

1 cannon
2 teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterZeke

The first is definitely the Mad Men logo with Don Draper. The color scheme of "Happy Birthday" is the main clue. But I originally thought it was a whale with the party hat on the spout of water.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterms mouse

The very first one is an Irish Artichoke, of course.
The second to last one - I think it's a whale with a party hat on.
And I'm agreeing with those who think the last one is a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHAL

Why do wreckerators insist on trying to make things using cupcakes?! Has one EVER turned out the way is was intended?!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJohann

A dead body and a teapot?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGrannyk

I knew that first one looked familiar! Now that everyone has said Mad Men logo I can see the tiny cigarette...
It's a cute idea, for sure, just poorly executed.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBin

I think the first one is a stapler, and the second one has to be a teapot. Unless of course it's Cinderella's carriage.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRobin

First quiz answer:
A whale with a bleeding growth.

Second quiz answer:
Petri dish with abundant growth and contrast stain.

*Puts apple on teachers desk and winks*

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

A pot pipe for number 1. Tea pot for number 2.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAnnie Nom Amous

The first one is definitely a mummy poking its head up out of its sarcophagus, getting ready to rise from the dead. I'm a little confused because the headwear is shaped like the crown of Upper Egypt, but is red like the crown of Lower Egypt.

The second one looks like a sugar bowl. It seems to be a fancy china object, but it has two handles (sort of) & no spout.

Oh great, now I have "I'm a Little Teapot" stuck in my head.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAnna

Corspe and tea pot ???

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBigg3469

a duck and a teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentertina

Why does a baseball glove have fingernails?

For the pop quiz, for some reason the first one makes me think of the MadMen logo, but why it's lying down and wearing a Santa hat is beyond me.

For the second, while most people are insisting it's a teapot, I think it's a very fancy SOS signal. For a princess in distress. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNagzilla

I realize the first one, according to so many commenters, may be allegedly the Mad Men logo, but to me it immediately looked like a mummy, with its head slightly raised, wearing a Santa hat. Why, I have no idea. And yes, the second is definitely a teapot -- but honestly, for regular Wreckreaders, that's almost *too* easy! :)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

I see a cannon as the first one, not a duck.

Second is a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJen

1. Mummy in a gnome hat?
2. Tea pot, probably.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterFrances

The first, a gnome, leaning over the edge of the world, wondering why he's so alone on his birthday.
The second, she tried so hard to cover up that massive pimple with grandma's tea cozy with the lovely flowers, but she wasn't fooling anyone.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

I think the first one is a golf club and flag from the hole.

The second I'm seriously debating between princess carriage and teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCake Wrecks Addict

Was I the only one who thought the first one was a rattlesnake? The "party hat" was the rattle and the "cigarette" was the face area, with a certain lack of detail. A bit thick because he was still digesting.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbob

I'm gonna go with stretch-limo-duck and a sugar bowl (I swear the handly things look like weird hair though)

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterShaunna

The first is either a loon OR a black swan, and the second is clearly teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentertehpet

1. Blood-sucking leech complete with blood.
2. Teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBB, Miami

The first one is Mad Men! And for the second, no idea...

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTaz

Shamu the whale in a holiday hat
Princess carriage

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjackwire

Shamu the whale in a holiday hat
Princess carriage

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjackwire

I'm thinking a stylish slug wearing a red party hat, and a teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThe Katt

The first is a foot in a black shoe. It's all that's left of a guy in business attire who was crossing a busy road when he was flattened by a runaway semi-truck. You can see the bloody stump. Yup. I'm going with that.

Last one is a princess tea pot -- either due to a lack of coffee, or because of it, I'm making out something that looks like a little crown under the cellophane, so I'm going with teapot and a lid that's a princess's head. Because nothing says "party" like a body-less princess.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMamaSheps

That last one reminds me: I really do need to buy a new toilet-seat cover. :p

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterms_xeno

I'll go with either a duck or the Mad Men logo on the first one and a funky looking teapot for the last one.

I was also curious why the baseball mitt has fingernails??? But then @sending took us all in a whole different direction! O.O

Remember I told you guys we were having a birthday party for my youngest last weekend? Well, the cake was all kinds of wrecky. When the bakery calls you 2 hours before you're supposed to pick up your cake and tells you they can't do the design you chose, well, wrecky-ness is almost guaranteed!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

I see a bunny with a party hat and, at first glance, a princess carriage, but with a second look I see how everyone else got tea pot. That thing at the top of the tea pot looked vaguely human to me at first.

This is like the Rorschach inkblots of cakes.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSueLou

Aurther: AAAA DUCK!

The second one is trying to be a little teapot short and stout. One that got sat on by an elephant......

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterIsolder74

I'm going to say the first one is a pipe, and the second one is a princess carriage.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDuae

Hmmm. . . . let's see. . . . pretty sure no. 2 was supposed to be a teapot. But no. 1?

1) A whale with a clown surfing on top.

2) A submarine about to launch a red-pointed torpedo, looking for Red October.

3) A male organ recovering from syphillys? Or another STD?

About that bus: My great niece came to visit this summer. She was 20 months old at the time. She drew better busses with her chalk on the sidewalk than this monstrosity here. And yes, second the motion for platypus.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

1. You got me.
2. Cinderella's carriage?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterfseel

The first one's Darth Vader waking up from a nap, isn't it?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDeanna

I figured the first bonus quiz one to be a drag race car as well @Shirley Fowley, but then after reading all the comments I googled "Mad Men Logo Cake" and low and behold, a cake came up that looks eerily similar to the CW version, only it was...well it just...okay it DIDN'T belong HERE...unlike the one shown here.

Agree, bonus #2 is a teapot...that you'd never want to brew tea in because you'd never be able to pour it into a cup....

Have a nice day y'all....
