What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Even More Cakes That Fail Hilariously At Looking Like The Things They're Supposed To Look Like

Back by popular* demand! A brand new edition of Cakes Failing To Look Like The Things They're Supposed To Look Like!

[*The cats liked it.]

A Shamrock:

When the luck of the Irish has a bad day.
And then gets all its limbs cut off.

Balloons.
Literally the easiest thing you can make with cake:

WE'RE DOOMED.

A Football Helmet:

Alien skull. Final answer.

Flip-Flops:

If these look right to you, then someday you're going to make a podiatrist very, VERY happy.

Basketballs:

Or stick figures with no faces.

A School Bus:

Or so they claim.
I'm convinced this is actually a platypus named School Bus. See the little nostrils?

A Baseball Glove:

For the longest time I thought this was supposed to be turkey.
Then I saw the fingernails.

BONUS POP QUIZ!

Can you guess what this is supposed to be?

How about this one?

Answers in the comments!
Assuming someone guesses right!
[wicked grin]

Thanks to Anony M., Jennifer M., Matt M., Katie T., Maggie P., Sally N., Tracie T., Jennalee, & Lauren L. for the excuse to use John's favorite post title again.

Note from john: Someone just told me they were done with Cake Wrecks because Jen didn't give you guys the answer in the comments in a timely manner. Honestly, we thought it was fun seeing your guesses. Well, as far as we know, it's the Mad Men logo and a teapot. Unless we're wrong. Merry Christmas!

Just to remark - if the first bonus wreck really is the Mad Men logo, while the cake is sort of a wreck - the logo isn't all that poorly executed. Of course the jauntily placed party hat is horribly, horribly done and the cigarette in Don Drapers hand is less execution than smear.

But still.

I am going to hold up a sold 7 for effort on the logo and, well, 2 for the rest of the cake. Now back to our regularly scheduled baby otter videos.

Since the last one vaguely resembles a teapot, I'm guessing it's not that.

Pop quiz #1) Black Swan (Wreckerator1:"What does a swan look like?" Wreckerator2:"Kinda like a duck, only longer.")

#2) I join everyone else on tea pot. Or possibly Alice in Wonderland.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterlcp

I don't watch mad men, so not sure about the 2nd to last one, but I think the last one could either be a teapot as others have guessed, OR a princess carriage...

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLauren

hmmm... the first one reminds me a whale? Or a humpback whale wearing a christmas hat? Or is it supposed to be some nautilus or submarine...??? Or a Seal wearing a christmas hat from seaworld??

Wait Wait..... Is it the shadow of a sled with a dark shadow of a santa wearing a bright christmas hat??

Well, the second is clearly a teapot, but lopsided and doing a jig! Or it's mrs teapot from beauty and the beast...

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKrisHmmm

the first is cleary robin hood. . .see the arrow? the second is the new york skyline

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterannie

1st one is the Mad Men logo with a party hat. The 2nd one is a tea pot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHollie

First bonus: a loon with a red bill
Second bonus: it looks for all the world like a teapot, so that's probably not it…maybe a decorative chair?

And that school bus: why the floating stop sign (or was that supposed to be the flashing light, or the sign from the side of the bus that didn't fit)? are the "platypus nostrils" made of cheese crackers? and the windows usually go on the top…even with distorted perspective...

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTwinMom

1) a long black duck

2) I'm a little teapot!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNashia

1. Mad Men logo.
2. It looks to me like the back of one of those fancy hand mirrors.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAnna

I think the first is a cannon, and the second a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJP

I was thinking the first bonus was a cormorant in a party hat, because birthday - but now that I have seen the Mad Men logo, I can agree that it might be what the wreckerator was going for.
I see teapot for the second one.
I agree, that is no baseball mitt. I own one and it had no fingernails on it.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAlison in Indiana

1. Helicopter
2. Teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCarinda

I think the 1st unidentified frosted object is supposed to be a guy with a party hat waking up in a coffin with a killer hangover. 2nd is a teapot, which might contain his buddies' "sure fire hangover cure" that they give him, hen run away snickering.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

#2 I thought tea pot at first but now I think it is a My Little Pony

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterhysilvinia

The first one looks like an attempt at a Red-Throated Loon, Gavia stellata:
http://goo.gl/lw9JKS
Only loons and cormorants have that head-up posture.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTachybaptus

#1 is obviously a walrus who is a fan of Dr Who. Fez's are cool!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBluebonnet

Hooray that the cats liked it ! XD

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThe Former CB

#2 A teapot of awkward "fancy" princess dress. #1--being that it's a birthday cake and in black, my first thought was that it was a dead body. the red triangle, I dunno.

and those flip flops look like happy party pickles.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjo

Ummm...so, since when do baseball gloves have fingernails???
As for the guessing game, I am going with either a duck or loon for the first one and Cinderella's coach for the second.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNicole

oh puleeze, sugar bowl- there's no spout! and the previous one is obviously Dr. Who riding a sperm whale that spontaneously appeared in the middle of outer space due to the infinite probability drive. Not that I'm trying to cross streams or anything but Zaphod being a time lord would explain a few things...

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermsanthrope

A seal and Cinderella's carriage

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChug

I agree that the first one is a baseball bat and a baseball, but I think the second might be Cinderella's coach!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJulia

First Bonus Question: Woodpecker on a tree that has fallen

Second Bonus Question: As everyone else has stated, a teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

Second to last - Dead man waking?

Last one - either a teapot or a really fat gnome with no neck jamming out.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRuthie

If you rotated the Seahawks cake 180 degree, it could pass for one of those foam fingers you see at stadiums. Except we know that wasn't the intention because if you did that the letters would be upside down.

Second to last cake, and I am only guessing this because of the red/black/somewhat grayish color scheme, possibly a vampire rising from a coffin?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

I think the first one is a Whale... and the second one is definitely a teapot...

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

"And then I saw the fingernails." ... *SHUDDER*

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMAH

A lit cigar and the teapot from that disney movie.... whatever its called. What was it called? The ugly guy and the hot chick?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

Having never seen Mad Men, I'll take people's word on the first one. The second one is probably an alien teapot.

I will also ask the question as to why there would be fingernails on the outside of a baseball mitt. The world may never know.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGinger

@msanthrope It totally would!! Like the extra arm and head- Possibly regeneration gone wrong?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterScaperMama

Guy getting out of his coffin, and a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNatalie

First bonus: baseball bat and ball
Second bonus: pretty sure it's santa's sleigh. But somewhere warm because of the flowers?!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMary

Okay, since when do baseball gloves have fingernails? WTH?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLori

The last two are a planer (as in the hand tool that smoothes things) and a teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermary

I agree with the majority, I would guess the last one to be a teapot. The other? Haven't a clue but I suspect that the recipient may have been a fan of the TV show DEXTER. :D

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKeith

I am going with 1) a loon 2) a teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenternola

Did anyone else notice that the headlights/nostrils on the school bus/platypus look like pieces of Captain Crunch?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterIt's All About The Frosting

My first thought on the first one was an Egyptian mummy, like for an archaeologist's party. Then I thought a long flat duck. But then I thought the words looked like a logo (I don't watch Mad Men, sorry).

The second is a teapot.

I'm going to lie down now.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTricia L

I think the first mystery is a fire hose...second one is definitely a warped tea pot!

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

Angela is right. My first thought was duck and teapot. Maybe a Peking duck that's been pressed and cooked until the laquer is nice and black.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Sexy reclining goth Santa.Duh.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMarcie

A whale in a party hat and a teapot

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGail

I got nothing for the competition, as I'm firmly in the camp of thinking the last one is a teapot. However, can we talk about the platypus named School Bus? Yikes, is that a physically impossible design, or what? I'm guessing that was made for the first Wednesday in September, and probably was purchased by a harried room mother for a first grade class. The decorator clearly washed out of engineering school. The placement of the wheels will result in a tippy front end, and with all the tires on that side of the bus, it probably makes a scraping sound as it drives down the street. It should be easy for the little kids to board, though. No high first step if it is scraping the ground on the right hand side. I'm eager to hear suggestions about what the red CC in the corner actually is. It looks like Elmo, but I don't get the relevance with the platypus named School Bus.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterColin M.

I don't know about the other ones, but with a little more green stuff, the flipflops could be turned into a passable Christmas Wreath cake.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterWill

A luger in a party hat

Teapot?

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjbrecken

I'm guessing Kazoo and teapot.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJeffrey

The flip-flops look like pickes in disguise.

December 11, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAllegra

Oooh... the first is curling... believe it's called a stone? they thing they wipe down the ice and then sweep along... It's not a puck, I know that much LOL

the second... first guess is a teapot...
