What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Friday Favs 7/29/16

Some of my favorite new submissions this week:

Val's friends ordered her a Kansas University cake, with "Go Jayhawks!" on it. There was a little mix-up with the "KU" at the top, though:

Give it a sec.

(When in doubt, always add ellipses.)

This bride and groom ordered a small wedding cake, plus a matching sheet cake to go on the side.

Technically, I guess they DO match:

And finally, things that make you go:

Thanks to Brian H., Angie S., & Cheryl C. for discovering 2 out of 3 emojis prefer dog poop.

Note from john- Recore is their last name.

In that first one they didn't cross their "t" :-) It says Birlhday
That last one! I threw up a little in my mouth. Love your GIFs - they are perfect.

Val's birthday cake from KU
Should show colors both red and blue
But the sheet cake's a mess
And its message a guess
While the last one's a big pile of poo.

I'm trying to recognize the screaming guy - I know it's from a show I've actually seen, but I can't quite remember what it is . . . alas, the horrors of aging.

What is up with that last cake? 😂

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMindy1

Okay. The bride and groom got the "side cake" and displayed it with their real wedding cake? Why? Why didn't they put it somewhere until it was time to serve the cake. No one needed to see that. No one. Not even us. Certainly not me. Why does it say "Recore?" Why are those little plastic votives there. Why?

Why...

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

What does "Recore" refer to? And why is there a ginormous stripe down the middle of the sheet cake? (Were we not supposed to notice that? Sorry.) On the other hand, these are really minor details compared to the general "Hellllllooooooooo? What did you think they were ordering?!?!?!"

That's a win on the Blackadder gif! :)

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSylvie

This proves, with a high level of certainty, that there is no reason for the poop emoji to exist and many reasons for it to go away. Now. Just go! And clean up that brown smear that follows. Ewww.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

On the plus side the writing's not bad. On the first two cakes.

Ba da BING!!

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterCasey

KimS, it's from Black Adder! A British period farce starring House and Mr Bean (Rowan Atnkinson). Hugh Laurie gifs are worth a thousand words.

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterlazykerri

The funny thing about the dog poop cake is that the running colors are completely unintentional.
I think those emojis could be dog toys, I've seen ones like that. Someone just wanted a cake to match their floor, commemorating their new puppy.

Love that used a Black Adder GIF!

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterOlga

I'm actually more appalled by the second photo. It's one thing for the customer to have bad taste; it's another to think that the customer wants a cake with that much blank white space.

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterClassic Steve

Blackadder/Hugh Laurie - Huzzah! (or, considering the cake, Huzzahahahahaha!)!

"Hey You..." is FAR better than what I was imagining...
@Naomi, I was thinking maybe it was two half-sheet cakes iced together, but no - the stripe's crooked!
So many punny ways to describe the last sheet cake, but I'll keep it clean (unlike the cake!). ;)

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterjuice

Dammit, now I'm going to be singing the Blackadder theme song all day.

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSharon

Thank you, lazykerri! I feel much better now :)

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKimS

Yeah, I'm going to need an explanation of "Recore" also....

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterErica

What does recore mean? What does it MEAN?! WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?!

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

The KU cake should say "KU", not "Hey You".

I bet the baker is either a K-State fan, or an MU fan. They are just Jelly. =)

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterShelley

I'm confused with the wedding sheet cake... the bakers probably did that so they could keep track of it and figured it would be cut up and no one would ever see what was written. My guess is they weren't thinking they needed to decorate it to be displayed. That's pretty common and I've never seen a sheet cake at a wedding.

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

That last one, complete with yellow and brown smears!!! 😂

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTamgineer

Seeing a Blackadder gif here makes me happy as a Frenchman who has just invented a pair of self-removing trousers. If you don't understand that, go watch Blackadder The Third RIGHT NOW. It will change your life.

Blackadder gifs make my day! On the other hand, the poo cake not so much.....

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKyle

NOT ONLY is there a Blackadder GIF for the win, Hugh is the Prince Regent!

"I may be as thick as a whale omelet..."

You people just...so...in the same vibe as me!! I feel all at home and like we've all been friends for years.

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterkrunchifrog

Is.. Is that a *worm* on the poo emoji??

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMel

A Blackadder reference!!! I love you Jen!!! (these cakes, not so much)

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterFlower Girl

A wreck-tacular cake and a Hugh Laurie as the Prince gif. Just when I think I couldn't love Jenn and John, THOJ, any more...

Lucky, lucky us.

You know in that last one the poop is actually properly shaped, if it was made in Japan.

July 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNathan R.

Lmao at the poop emoji leaving a poop bone. That one face is exactly how I would look if I saw that poop emoji anywhere near my cake lol.

July 30, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Looks like the dog smeared his emoji poop!

The only "Recore" I know of is this upcoming video game:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/recore

But I doubt someone would order a wedding cake based on a video game about a girl trying to survive on a planet populated by killer robots that won't be released for over a month, even if it does look promising. I could understand a No Man's Sky cake, but not ReCore.

July 30, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTB Tabby

Do people actually pay for SNAFU's like that? Haven't had a serious cake wreck yet and just wonder what people do when this happens to them.. Lol

July 30, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterShari

In regards to the "why is the side cake on display" question- the bridal party does not enter the dining room until Introduction time, long after everything has been set up and the guests have arrived. The caterers set up the tables and put the tablecloths out early in the day in anticipation of the florists and bakery arriving. They are responsible for setting up their flowers and cake, not the caterer. If you don't have an event planner overseeing everything, the catering manager really doesn't know what the flowers or cake table is supposed to look like. So, surprise! Your side cake is on display.

July 31, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKatey

You know, I didn't even notice the running icing in the last one until now.

July 31, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

I love that you put a Black Adder gif in your post on Friday!
