According to my ASPCA calendar, this is "Adopt a Shelter Cat Month", as well! My four are all from the animal shelter. I "pet-appreciate" them, and the shelter, and the work that they do, and everything!! Yay! Now, just one little question, john (the hubby of Jen): What does any of THAT have to do with those photos that you have up there of a kindergarten art class? =^~.-^= Happy P.A.W., everyone!

@misanthrope, I can vouch for the fact that in my house, it's preferred to sit your smelly rear end on the keyboard, then use the mouse as a pillow.
Pet Appreciation Week: "PAW"!! How nice! (Too bad it had to end!) That first cake ...George of the Jungle's "close-enough" girlfriend? It really was well-made...but I have to wonder WHY it was... well, MADE. I'm going back to look at Sunday's stuff again! =^0.o^=
I have my own Lillie (short for Lilliput) helping me at the computer right now, so I'm busy appreciating her. I appreciate her much more than a melting honey badger with a gorilla head and worms draped over its paws. WTH??
P.S. The honey badger cake looks like the body should go with the creepy ape face. The face of the honey badger looks like the gorilla costume they used in the "Serial Apist" movies on the Big Bang Theory!
Ummmm....I do believe that cake #2 is a perfect rendition of the often-elusive glow-in-the-dark magenta anteater that can be found in finer amusement parks / gas stations throughout the South. Kudos to the wreckerator for capturing her likeness so clearly.
I'm struggling with that cat. A lot. I wish I had a photo of the "chimp" that was done for my nephew, but it wasn't a CW. It was a Huuuuuge block of cheddar carved into a chimp head. Yes, for his birthday, his brothers had a cheese monkey made. sigh. It would have looked good here because my brother (the sculptor) decided to put brown M&Ms in for eyes. OOgh. They may not melt in your hands, but in your cheese head...? Welcome, Lily!
Love the comic strip! Now, imagine that scene with a Chocolate Lab squeezing onto your lap. That's what my mom's dog does whenever I call my mom on the phone. : - )

That last one reminds me of the headline/photo I saw this morning of an octopus carrying a coconut.

Well done, Lily, for recognizing this unique specimen of the pet microbe family. They are known for their tinny green dye flavor and the ability to exist on a bakery shelf for months in anticipation of just the right . . . let's just say, uhmm, well, ok, companion.

The cat cake can't be unseen. Ever. But the decorator shows a teensy bit of talent, no? He/she really tried to make the kitty cake. Unlike that last one which is just...sugary is the best i come up with. Welcome to Lily! Perhaps she types like my Tippi, walking across the keyboard while waving her tail in my face. (Looks elegant but does NOTHING to improve spelling)
As terrifying as these cakes are, the cake cat appears to be eating a heart. Why? WHY!?

Volunteering at the local animal shelter for just a little while now, I can attest that June is cat adoption month out of sheer desperation. Those caterwaulers have created kitten-splosions of such cataclysmic proportions, it's like a fur-nami. The local kitties enjoyed May, I tell you what.
The best part about this post was reading it on my tablet while the device was shoved ever closer to my face by one of my fuzzy little lovebugs.

I think the last cake isn't an animal at all. It's an artistic representation of the moon dude from the Little Cesar's commercial. You know, the one that says, "pizza time"? (Truly, the moon dude was the first thing that popped into my head.)

Degera: there may be a story behind that cat. The novelist and poet Thomas Hardy had a cat, which he called something truly appalling, like Tiddlywinkyfluffikins (time has mercifully erased my memory of the name). Hardy died, and his body was buried in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey, a great honour. However, he had requested that his heart should be buried in the churchyard at Stinsford in Dorset, the Wessex village where he lived. So, before his body was sent to London, the family doctor got busy with a knife. This was before the days when ordinary English people had refrigerators, so his heart was put on a plate in the larder. Not long afterwards, people came to collect it for burial, but the plate was empty. In the next room they found Tiddlywinkyfluffikins licking his chops. He had exacted revenge for his frightful name. The rest of the story is rather sad. They had to bury the heart in the churchyard, so you can guess what they did. Moral (if there is one): never eat the heart of a poet.
