What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Pet Appreciation Week

This week we take the time to appreciate our adorable furry companions:

O.o

And also the terrifying ones.

Where was I?

Oh yeah.

Whether they be "dogs"

"cats"

"honey badgers"

...or whatever this is:

I think we can all agree that iupiu38ru3p9jfn3cjjsa'''''''aa'sdij'fln

Happy Pet Appreciation Week, everybody!

Thanks to Martina V., Chelsea M., Keesha V., Elizabeth S. and Katie C. for the excuse to make Lily's stick figure debut.

Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling...

Monkey, not my aesthetic, but well done; litlle pink doggy?; AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Holy cats that's bad. Loving Lily though.

You didn't quite convey all of Lilly's glorious fluffiness John (thoj), but otherwise: Nailed It!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

This is awesome! I think Lily should be a guest poster on cakewrecks. I'm sure she's an expert on "fuzzy" cakes.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEmily

John, Terrific! Welcome 'stick figure' Lily, we luv ya already. I too had an assistant while at the computer, Kirby a 22 lb. Tom Cat. He and Lily had the same typing skills. Spot on Lily for identifying that last um, pet, no, um, I agree it's a iupiu38ru3p9jfn3cjjsa'''''''as'sdij'fln

"The following cakes are approved by PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals)..."
That first cake looks like. J. Fred Muggs unknown brother K. Ferd Uggs.
And Cake # 2 Looks like a reject from The Muppets (eek!!)!

According to my ASPCA calendar, this is "Adopt a Shelter Cat Month", as well! My four are all from the animal shelter. I "pet-appreciate" them, and the shelter, and the work that they do, and everything!! Yay! Now, just one little question, john (the hubby of Jen): What does any of THAT have to do with those photos that you have up there of a kindergarten art class? =^~.-^= Happy P.A.W., everyone!

Awwww! Too cute and too true of cat nature.
The dog looks like a mutant armadillo.
What is the cake cat holding -- a ham?

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

The cat cake is more terrifying than the Siamese cats in "The Lady and the Tramp". Fortunately, Lily made it aaa78ee222w away!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAthena

Dear Lily, I wondering if you could tell me, do most cats prefer to type via face roll or is there another technique you use?

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermsanthrope

I recently watched the honey badger documentary on Netflix. That representation terrifies me! o.O

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

Loving seeing Lily! Hope she is doing well.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJunebug

@misanthrope, I can vouch for the fact that in my house, it's preferred to sit your smelly rear end on the keyboard, then use the mouse as a pillow.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPamtha

Pet Appreciation Week: "PAW"!! How nice! (Too bad it had to end!) That first cake ...George of the Jungle's "close-enough" girlfriend? It really was well-made...but I have to wonder WHY it was... well, MADE. I'm going back to look at Sunday's stuff again! =^0.o^=

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

I have my own Lillie (short for Lilliput) helping me at the computer right now, so I'm busy appreciating her. I appreciate her much more than a melting honey badger with a gorilla head and worms draped over its paws. WTH??

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFM

P.S. The honey badger cake looks like the body should go with the creepy ape face. The face of the honey badger looks like the gorilla costume they used in the "Serial Apist" movies on the Big Bang Theory!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

Ummmm....I do believe that cake #2 is a perfect rendition of the often-elusive glow-in-the-dark magenta anteater that can be found in finer amusement parks / gas stations throughout the South. Kudos to the wreckerator for capturing her likeness so clearly.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGrace

I'm struggling with that cat. A lot. I wish I had a photo of the "chimp" that was done for my nephew, but it wasn't a CW. It was a Huuuuuge block of cheddar carved into a chimp head. Yes, for his birthday, his brothers had a cheese monkey made. sigh. It would have looked good here because my brother (the sculptor) decided to put brown M&Ms in for eyes. OOgh. They may not melt in your hands, but in your cheese head...? Welcome, Lily!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterValarie

Love the comic strip! Now, imagine that scene with a Chocolate Lab squeezing onto your lap. That's what my mom's dog does whenever I call my mom on the phone. : - )

@Jodi: I also thought it was an armadillo. Then I thought of Steel Magnolias. *snicker*

That last one reminds me of the headline/photo I saw this morning of an octopus carrying a coconut.

Come now, doesn't anyone recognize the rare, but truly atrocious, pet microbe? Aptly named upiu38ru3p9jfn3cjjsa'''''''aa'sdij'fln. Well done, Lily, for recognizing this unique specimen of the pet microbe family. They are known for their tinny green dye flavor and the ability to exist on a bakery shelf for months in anticipation of just the right . . . let's just say, uhmm, well, ok, companion.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAdo Annie

Cakes are Scary Awful today. However, love Lily!! Please let her help more!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSuzannah

Hilarious! But #1 isn't that bad, really.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterErica

I love these posts with the stick figures! They just crack me up! Now I want to go home and pet my dog.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLaura P.

so THAT'S a honey badger? Best part of that one has to be the smiles after eating (hope they got pictures)
The cat cake can't be unseen. Ever. But the decorator shows a teensy bit of talent, no? He/she really tried to make the kitty cake. Unlike that last one which is just...sugary is the best i come up with. Welcome to Lily! Perhaps she types like my Tippi, walking across the keyboard while waving her tail in my face. (Looks elegant but does NOTHING to improve spelling)

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered Commenters.marie

As terrifying as these cakes are, the cake cat appears to be eating a heart. Why? WHY!?

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

Oh, please let Lily post occasionally! She's a purrfect addition to the page!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLinda

I believe kitty cake has a cheeseburger....what internet cats are famous for wanting -I can haz cheeseburger

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMelanie

Is the cat holding a spleen???

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterHazel

@Jodi, I actually preferred "Serial Apist 2: Monkey See Monkey Kill," because Wil Wheaton.

Volunteering at the local animal shelter for just a little while now, I can attest that June is cat adoption month out of sheer desperation. Those caterwaulers have created kitten-splosions of such cataclysmic proportions, it's like a fur-nami. The local kitties enjoyed May, I tell you what.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

The best part about this post was reading it on my tablet while the device was shoved ever closer to my face by one of my fuzzy little lovebugs.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRobynR

Loving stick figure cat. The cakes not so much

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

The last one is obviously Octofrog- come on people!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAnne

and I thought my traumatic childhood required therapy! Um no, these cakes will!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKristin

I think the last cake isn't an animal at all. It's an artistic representation of the moon dude from the Little Cesar's commercial. You know, the one that says, "pizza time"? (Truly, the moon dude was the first thing that popped into my head.)

Here's a link, in case you haven't seen it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OWwQGYdB84

Degera: there may be a story behind that cat. The novelist and poet Thomas Hardy had a cat, which he called something truly appalling, like Tiddlywinkyfluffikins (time has mercifully erased my memory of the name). Hardy died, and his body was buried in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey, a great honour. However, he had requested that his heart should be buried in the churchyard at Stinsford in Dorset, the Wessex village where he lived. So, before his body was sent to London, the family doctor got busy with a knife. This was before the days when ordinary English people had refrigerators, so his heart was put on a plate in the larder. Not long afterwards, people came to collect it for burial, but the plate was empty. In the next room they found Tiddlywinkyfluffikins licking his chops. He had exacted revenge for his frightful name. The rest of the story is rather sad. They had to bury the heart in the churchyard, so you can guess what they did. Moral (if there is one): never eat the heart of a poet.

Am I the only person who recognized the "dog" cake as ALF in disguise?
ALF TV Series

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterThe PaulR

I don't remember the episode Alf fell in a bottle of pink hair dye???

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDi F

I think the"dog" actually looks like Alf

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered Commentertxgym

New favorite post!

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMadTigerKitty

Well, at least the honey badger doesn't care what it looks like.

"I think we can all agree that iupiu38ru3p9jfn3cjjsa'''''''aa'sdij'fln"

To which my cat says, "ashjdfkjbgloj;pk[l][;\]'79--"

Well said, Kitty! I couldn't have said it better myself.

I see that Jen has an "in your face" breed, just like I have. So lovey-dovey they are, but I haven't been able to complete a sentence in one pass since 2002.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDances with Lasagna

Is that last cake supposed to be a frog? The first thing I thought of was this...

I think the cat is a zombie...it has a half eaten human liver in its paws.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

Aww Lily stick figure is adorable. The frightening cakes however are not lol oh man I would be very upset at the weird monkey face cake.

June 9, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

The cat looks slightly mummified.

#2 is CLEARLY a furry pink armadillo
