What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: 10 Wonderland Wedding Cakes

Looking to add some Wonderland whimsy to your big day?
Then here are 10 oh-so-elegant cakes to make you fall (in love) down the rabbit hole:

(By Jamie Bakes Cakes)

Those vintage Alice illustrations work beautifully with soft pastels.

Or how about a topsy-turvy tower of teacups?

(By San Marco Cakes and featured here)

I like how they still manage to be elegant, with the soft colors and gilded filigree rims.

Ok, I couldn't wait 'til the end to show you my favorite.
HINT: It's this one:

(By Sweet Avenue Cakery)

I'm swooning over this color palette, and those teeny mushrooms! With the curly bits! And the polka-dots! Ahhhh.

Oh, but look at this one!

(By Sugar Ruffles)

That teal is perfection. Also loving the gold key, and the rose in the teacup!

If you're looking for a cake that deserves its own trumpet fanfare, though, then here it is:

(By Artisan Cake Company)

Where to start? The flawless quilting? The ornate gilded edges? That sweet "ivory" cameo? IT'S ALL SO GOOD.

We've seen a lot of teacups so far, but no top hats! This cannot stand.

(By Cakes By Erin Salerno)

Muuuch better. I love that rich green, and - hold the phone, would you believe that's not a real teapot?! She hand-sculpted and hand-painted it! WOW. (And there's a wee little owl on top! LOVE.)

You can really amp up the drama with a playing cards inspired design:

(By Pink Cake Box)

Look closely; the black and white scroll work has the card suits hidden in it! That is so cool.

Here's a fun tower with all sorts of hidden Wonders:

(By Choccywoccydoodah and featured here)

Perfect for playing I Spy! Anyone else spot the plate with the cupcake and tea sandwich on it?

A little LESS subtle, but I couldn't resist this minimalist White Rabbit:

(By Blue Duck Bakery and featured here)

And finally*, a gravity-defying design worthy of the Mad Hatter's table:

(By Ron Ben Israel Cakes)

You half expect the flowers to start singing, right?

A. Mazing.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

*Okay, 9 wedding cakes and 1 sweet sixteen cake. Boops.

Oh! My! Wowsa! So glad you can use your words 'cause I'm all agog over these! Wow! And how perfect is using an elegant, curvy chair to display the #5 cake? Brilliant. These are all amazing. Thanks for putting some awesome in my ordinary Sunday.

Every Sunday for the past years (how many? God knows!) I come here and marvel at how beautiful those cakes are. And every week I ask myself Who in their right minds would let anyone cut them. 'Cause, I'm sorry, if I ever get one of those cakes made for me I'll let no one near it with any sharp object (including probing fingers).

Totally LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the topsy-turvy teacups and the Green Mad Hatter cakes!!! The others are gorgeously beautiful too, but those are my favs...

The last one is a remarkable structure, but there doesn't seem much room for cake in it.

Gorgeous!!

That one by Choccywoccydoodah with the teapot and the roses appears to be all chocolate, and not fondant, making it the winner, or rather the one that 'takes the cake'. Hard to be sure, but the thickness of the rose petals is usually a pretty good indicator.

The Tenniel illustrations! My absolute favorites, and they're perfect here!

June 7, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFran

I agree with Tachybaptus - the last one doesn't seem to have any CAKE to eat.

No hats until the 6th image? I thought the first cake resembled a white mad hatter hat, at least the bottom tier

If I weren't so tired from 3 hours of yard work, I'd be squee-ing in delight over these. Especially the teacups!

YOU. oh, my goodness you. Cake from Artisian Cake Company-- I can see you being the 8th birthday cake of a legitamate European royal princess.

I LOVE the topsy turvy teacups, and that third from last icing smorgasbord!

In other news, in view of the events yesterday in horse racing history, may I request a horse racing, or Triple Crown, or just plain old horse themed Sunday Sweets? Pretty please, with icing sugar on top??? Please... horse racing hasn't seen this happen in THIRTY-SEVEN years!!! I'd say that's worth a celebration, and what's a celebration without cake?

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBea

They are all so beautiful!
However the one photographed sitting on the chair makes all my mom alarms go off, just like they do when my kids put a full glass of milk 1/2 an inch away from the edge of the table.

June 8, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterstacy

Oh, Bea! I am SO with you! I'd been wanting to see another Triple so badly! That was just wonderful! (At the same time, I am also happy that "my" Secretariat's records are still unbeaten. What a day!) But yes-horse cake that aren't wrecks....nice idea. IF it can be done...

Am going gaga over these beautiful cakes and each cake is very unique and stylish. Especially the cake done by pink cake box is definitely a show stealer. All are my absolute favourites and I can’t wait to grab one for my special day!
