What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Pretty As A Princess

Fun Fact: A Disney princess cake doesn't always have to have the princess on it!

You could just use her color scheme and accessories, like Snow White's apples here:

(By Cacau 2 You)

And look how elegant, with that intricate lace work!

Of course, it doesn't get more iconic than Cinderella's glass slipper:

(By Charlie's Cake Shop)

Love that detailing!

You see a lot of bakers now dressing up a traditional tiered cake in the Princess' dress and crown -
and I approve:

(By The Cake Store)

Aurora's white collar works perfectly here, and check out the subtle "seam lines" on the top tier, which match her dress' bodice!

This Ariel cake? SO FUN:

(By Cakes By Joanne)

I'm completely smitten with those soft pastels - and THAT TAIL! Hee! Am I right?

Here's a brilliant collection of props for Belle:

(By Tammy's Frosted Memories)

Most Belle cakes only have the rose, so it's cool to see the stained glass and mirror, too!

Would you believe I not only found a Mulan cake, I found a GORGEOUS Mulan cake?

(By Pastry Chik)

So perfect! From the hair comb to the pattern on her folded robe!

I've always loved Tiana's dress colors, but the extra purple flowers here really make the bright greens sing:

(By Mama Nena's Cakes)

Ah! SO SWEET.

Now, get ready to laugh:

(Found here. Anybody know who made it?)

Ha! Grumpy Pascal is my new favorite thing. :D

(Although Rapunzel's braid border & dress lacing are brilliant design touches.)

Another great dress design for Merida:

(Baker unknown. Help?)

And the three bear brothers give it that perfect dose of D'awwwww.

Last but not least, the most popular princesses right now:

(By Cuteology Cakes)

Elsa & Anna!

(Though technically I guess only Anna is a princess now, with Elsa being queen.)

I am so, so impressed with Elsa's dress texture, and how the crown ties the two together. Beautiful!

Hope you enjoyed! Happy Sunday, everyone!

I want someone to make an Esmeralda cake in this style. That would be awesoooome.

Lucky little girls! My favorite is the "Mama Nena's" , with the golden crown on top; the embossed design looks like a cat face, to me! And, boy--I hope they have lots of photos of Payton's! Most 3-year-olds don't remember anything, and that cake is a beauty...a sugary glass slipper?! That's my favorite part of all of these! You must have a blast picking the Sweets!

I don't mean to be rude, but I just wanted to point out a kimono is Japanese, since Mulan is Chinese she is not wearing a kimono. Her ensemble is made of several different types of material with different names, so it is not a qipao, but is a dress and attire in Hanfu clothing.

[Editor's note- Hi there! You are the least rude person on the internet. I like you. I changed it to robe since it seems to be the easiest word to describe it. Thanks for the heads up. -john (the hubby of Jen)]

So pretty :D

That first one almost qualifies as a wreck... that cameo has the weirdest rendering of a neck yet. Makes her look like some sort of snake-with-human-face monster.

Of course, since that is a very tiny detail, the rest of the cake (almost) redeems it.

My eagle-eyed daughter noticed that the top gown on the Frozen cake is not Anna's - it's Elsa's. So it's her coronation gown topping her ice gown. :-)

Never mind my previous post about the coronation gowns. I'm wrong. Wrong on the internet - the horror!

April 26, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMelanie E.

The detail that would send it over the top for me on the Rapunzel dress would be a tiny rubber duck or unicorn.

I think the Snow White cake is from this bakery: http://www.cacau2you.com.br/galeria.html . They have some other great work :D Love the Princess-themed cakes.

Wow; all so beautiful... When it's done right: It is Right... Thanks for sharing these gems today.

@TheCreepyTribble, someone HAS made an Esmeralda cake in this style. Not sure of the baker, but here's a Pinterest link: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/474989091922833735/ (Not sure if you'll ever see my response, but it's worth a shot. Also, I think I'd actually prefer it if the first cake didn't even have the Snow White cameo--or if it was solid black or white--as I think the angle tends to make it look a little ape-like.

I loved Princess week. Now I just need to find someone who will get me that glass slipper cake!

April 26, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLuLu

Beautiful cakes. But Snow White's neck looks a little awkward. Lol.

April 26, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJess

The 1st one is from http://www.cacau2you.com.br =)

[Editor's note- Thanks! I'll update it now. -john (thoJ)]

Whoa. Some of these gave me goosebumps; which is a rare occurrence, that's just how beautiful they are haha

April 26, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCat

At first I didn't notice anything wrong with the Snow White cameo until someone pointed it out. Now it reminds me of one of the Hollywood star characterizations in Tex Avery's 'Hollywood Steps Out'.

April 26, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBegonia Storms

Wow. Just wow. STUNNING!

April 27, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMiki

Amazingly beautiful and colorful design... Its really a craftwork to make these...

April 27, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAnu

I would love to see the back on of the Anna/Elsa cake. It looks like Elsa's layer has a cape(!) behind it.

April 27, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterangie

I think the tiered princess cakes should be referred to a tiara'd cakes in stead of tiered. :) So beautiful! As someone who still wears a tiara on her birthday (and hasn't seen school age in a long time...) I need one of these cakes in my life.

April 27, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGirlNamedCorrie

@TAL I love it and now need it for my next birthday. Plus I now have God Help the Outcasts stuck in my head, so thanks for that. :)

Six days a week I look at the "wrecky" cakes, and I laugh! On Sundays, though I mostly just say, Wow - over and over again. The Sunday cakes are amazing!

May 1, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterkchuk

The Snow White cake is for a 1 year old. That's insane. The parents are going to have a hard time living up to that every year. I can't imagine ever having such an amazing birthday cake.
