What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

@ #9- "you're"

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterFluffy Cow

Totally not fair to post those without the backstories!
The last one is surely the best, though.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

Wouldn't be surprised if I got one of those this week - my last day at work on Thursday and I've already been left off the secret Santa list...

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

Wow, WHY would you actually present the person with those cakes? I need to know...

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterErica

Very, VERY clever (last cake pictured). I'm wagering that the one who scripted it got to take the whole cake home untouched. =^~.-^=

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

I have a new mission- to find an occasion to use the "you both suck for different reasons" cake.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNagzilla

What does Kilroy have to do with romance on that cookie cake? Is he the new stalker mascot or something?

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterIsolder74

Caroline B, I wish I was you. :/

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterms_xeno

Well, DH works in government diplomatic circles and we all move around rather frequently. There is a joke that there is always a party when a person leave for a new post. The question is whether the party will be before or after someone leaves. Looks like some of these folks were less than diplomatic and had the party before the person left but perhaps should have waited... That last one, the script writing is so nicely done it is truly unfortunate that it is so easy to read. I can get past a lot of things when it comes to cake but that one - ick.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKJill

I hope Kathy is a real meanie, because otherwise, cake #7 would be plain bullying. Actually, a couple of them could be.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAthena

"you both suck for different reasons" really tickles my funny bone.

I need an occasion for this cake.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterYota

Giving someone a cake with the inscription "Stay Thin" is just... just... I have no words. *sigh*

@Caroline B ~ Maybe the You Suck cake would be an appropriate parting gift for your co-workers?

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

But the most likely reason of all
Was that Kilroy's heart was
Two sizes too small.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

I'm fascinated by the second to last cake. If someone owed you money, why would you buy them a cake? Does the recipient now owe for the cost of the cake too (which could easily cost $30 in some stores)?

On the other hand, it's the politest bill collection notice I've ever seen.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

@Jodee - don't tempt me! I'm counting the hours until I'm my own boss!

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

On the last cake "Find the toenail??" Yeech no thanks!

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBigg3469

I love gel so I'd really enjoy a big slice of number 5.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKathy

He still owes us $32.32 BTW.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLynne

Bob-Bill's cake and the one with the hidden toenail aren't wrecks at all. They are great. I just wish I knew the story of the toenail. Was it always a toenail that they hunted for or did the object change? Did the recipient once find a toenail in the office (or living room -- no idea if it's a work or home cake) resulting in a running joke about who the donor was, etc.

Inquiring minds NEED to know!

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJane

The kast cake is particularly deviant. I like that.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Jodee -- it would make sense if two cakes were concatenated: 'Stay thin, find the toenail.'

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTachybaptus

Based on the candles I think poor hated Kathy is turning 4 - which is just sad.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMelanie

Some of these you can kind of guess the backstory on, some are hilarious without an explanation but would probably be even better with one... and then there's the toenail one.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAlex

I need the "You Both Suck for Different Reasons" today for my two teenagers.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEllenore

I've seen another (the original I think) version of the toenail cake. The reason given was that someone was told he had to bring something to a company party. In retaliation that's what he wrote on the cake he was forced to bring.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJenD

Is it just me, or does it look like a larger heart got scraped off the sixth one and a tinier one was put in its place?

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPadma

We second the sentiment that I would love the backstory on some of those cakes.

The Bob/Bill might be an office in-joke. I hope so for Bob/Bill's sake. :-)

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGinger

In regards to the owing money cake, I'm thinking $32.32 was the cost of the cake?

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJen

Cheers, Caroline B.! -- My last day of work after 12 years is this Friday. I'm really not even expecting them to bother getting a cake. I'm still on the Secret Santa only because I'm the one who puts it together. I think I will stop and get something devastating put on a cake on my way home Friday to make me giggle.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAppleCore

Just laughed very hard with my 12 year old son over these. Thanks for the family bonding moment. And he says he'd love a bit slice of the last cake. Go figure.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNatalie

Jen D, that backstory made me laugh myself silly - thank you!

Caroline B. - Congratulations!

You both suck for different reasons: when you give someone a vacuum as a present

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMarym

Umm, find the toe nail has me a little worried! Gulp!

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterchickiegirl0711

I think I've received a few of those cakes, heh heh.

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterlazypadawan

Well, honestly, "So You've Ruined Your Life" is an actual Simpson's joke in relation to the unplanned pregnancy with Bart.

The link below will direct you to a helpful pamphlet in Dr. Hibbert's office:

December 15, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKatja

Wow. I just laughed til I nearly cried. I would hope to never receive any of these cakes especially the one with hidden toe nails lol. Three hour lunches do sound lovely though.

December 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Bookmarking this for future inspiration for when my boss finally decides to leave (oh, please, let it be soon!). BTW, and certainly not related to any of today's wrecks, but I miss mel and HaikuJoy. Where are they?

December 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNobodee Home

On Bob's Burgers, the opening theme thingy has a sight gag every week. One of the buildings beside the restaurant changes each episode and this week it was a little shop called "Rude A-Baking-Nings" (this maybe misspelled) with the tagline of "Cakes for people you hate." I can't help but think this coincidence was too perfect to be a coincidence. :)

December 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCandace

@ Ellenore Would you have given them such a cake a few years ago, before they were teenagers? No matter what they did?

December 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSue

I really hope the recipient of #9 pointed out it was the wrong use of "your" before he/she walked out.

Add me to the list of people determined to find an occasion that warrants a "You both suck for different reasons" cake! :)

December 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChaosTheory

On the second to last cake, I think the joke is that the cake cost $32 and now the person who's leaving owes it to his/her (former) coworkers.

On the last cake, "Find the Toenail" is what you put on a cake that contains shredded coconut.

December 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAnne

We once had a cake say "Good Riddance" to a coworker. He is a difficult person and is aware of it. Despite his gruffness he was valued by the organization. It was meant as a joke, and he appreciated it.

December 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine

The pacing of these cakes was genius. The Bob/Bill cake really tickled my funnybone...and then I "lost it" when I got to "find the toenail".

If it makes anybody feel better about the cake for the hated Katie, I have a hunch that each candle stood for 10 years. I cannot believe that anybody would produce a cake like that for a 4-year old no mater how much they do to deserve it <g>.
