Sunday Sweets: Game On!
May 19, 2013 This week I've been talking video games over on Epbot, swapping recommendations and researching the best non-violent titles for adults, so naturally I HAD to see if some of my favorites exist in Sweet form!

In fact, I'm not sure which game this cake is from**, and that makes me sad. How could I have frittered away all those hours on Mario brothers when characters this cute existed?
I've promised the Epbot readers that I'm going to remedy this, though, just as soon as I figure out which Zelda games will work on my current consoles, and what order to play them in.

Remember how I said I get a little obsessive with games? Well, John does, too, so one time for a good two or three weeks I was what they call a "Skyrim widow." (Fortunately that game *does* have an ending, though, or else our Xbox might have suffered a little "accident.")

The final cake, though, that's just too perfect to eat. I would put that up on a shelf somewhere and just look at it all day.
There are indeed "real" Angry Birds playsets. They contain a couple of birds, some pigs, an assortment of stackable blocks, and more of a catapult than a slingshot. They also include challenge cards that describe the pigs' setup and the number of birds you have along with a point value for success.
There are several versions of this, with themed blocks. The set we have ("on thin ice") has some clear blocks representing ice, including some longer ones that break in two in the middle. Out set also include a TNT box which, when suitably struck, pops open.
Hi Jen, just dropping in to let you know that the Zelda cake is most likely based on Windwaker which is a fairly recent addition to the Zelda family. I've been a fan of the Zelda games for a long time, so has my husband and they are mostly all good. I hope you find one to play as they are amazing and have lots of great puzzles to solve. :D

No Lincoln Log Angry Birds Playsets, but there are ALL kinds of games and building sets out there. K'Nex has some building sets, you build the sling shot and the platform for the piggies. There is also Angry Birds Star Wars Jenga, and other games just based on the birds themselves.
Now I totally need to find someone local to make that Angry Birds' cake for my son's birthday this year. He would die. I'm guessing we'll possibly end up with a lovely wreck, too! Win-win!

The first Zelda cake is from Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker. It´s the cute game of the series. Great Blogg.
There are Angry Birds game sets. You get little birds, little pigs, and blocks to build with. My kids have them. :) Check the toy aisle by the games or by the Angry Birds section.
Well, it looks like laundry is going to have to wait again - there are video games to be played today! And yes, they do have an Angry Birds play set complete with birds, piggies, and logs! Not the greatest quality, but super cute!!
These are gorgeous - and I'm so excited to see a cake I submitted make it in the site! (The Warcraft was as delicious as it was gorgeous, by the way!)

You were *only* a Skyrim widow for two to three weeks?!? Wow, jealous! ;) My hubby totally want that Skyrim cake. I wouldn't mind the Plants vs. Zombies, myself!
The current favorite in this house is Guild Wars 2. Unfortunately, an image search for Guild Wars cakes mostly turns up people who have tried out in-game recipes in real life. Some of them are very faithful replicas of the in-game cakes, but not all that interesting to look at! Hopefully there will be some good Guild Wars 2 cakes soon.

I built him and was pleasantly surprised that his body stretches and collapses, just like in the game!)
Ooh! Wind Waker!
So we have Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf, each standing on a triangle of the Triforce. Flying around in the side of the second tier are our froglike friends Zephos and Cyclos (though there's no way I know which is which without looking it up), as well as a Boomerang. Below on one side are Aryll, a pig, and a mailbox (no letters, as it doesn't appear to be wiggling) and another pig, a Bomb Flower (run! It's gonna blow!) and Makar on the other, with the Great Deku Tree at the corner. (Unfortunately, I can't tell what's in front of him.) I also can't tell what's to the left of the King of Red Lions (Valoo, perhaps?) as he fishes for treasure, but to the right is a Big Octo. I see they used the model with the most eyes. Teeeeeh? It's a fishman, jumping around and hoping you notice him so you'll drop him some bait. I don't have this island on my Sea Chart, so maybe... Another pig, on a boardwalk this time. Finally, a dormant volcano.
Too bad I can't see the other side; I can only guess what has been recreated there. Medli, perhaps? Or Quill? Komali? Link's Grandma? Zunari? Mila? Jabun? A goddess statue? A trading Goron? Lenzo? Salvatore? A Great Fairy, or the Fairy Queen herself? A Picto Box? Possibly even the Wind Waker?
All right, all right, I'll stop. I can't really think of anyone or anything else that's likely to be there, anyway. ;)
I KNOW you're not kidding. I got it for my 10-yr-old for Christmas. She was delighted. She got the Star Wars Space Angry Birds game for her birthday and actually hugged me, despite her Asperger's and Sheldon Cooper-like aversion to touch. A hug from her is a big deal, sort of like when Penny gave Sheldon the Leonard Nimoy napkin.
Three years ago (almost to the day), I got a Wind Waker-themed birthday cake. I'd sampled Zelda games in childhood, but I didn't become a real fan until college, when I got the chance to play Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for a long while.
I also played Q*bert* in an arcade, but it was already rather old.
I was just wondering if you've seen wreck-it Ralph. Your qbert cake reminded me. I think you kight enjoy it if you haven't seen it yet!
Majora's Mask is a great game! I don't know how much you know about it, but the time travel thing can get a little hard. It's also surprisingly creepy, between the moon (THE MOON ASODIHUSDIFUSGDL) and the happy mask salesman. But it is beautiful and fun and interesting, all the way through.
A less creepy, little bit easier game is Ocarina of Time. I do recommend playing both (easy enough since they're both on the same system) but OoT may be more up your alley, judging from the games you've mentioned over on Epbot. The time travel in it is way more manageable, in that you travel between past and future and can control it, instead of having to run through the three day limit, manipulating things one by one, and returning to day one. That being said, OoT kind of makes up for that with the Water Temple Puzzle. Other than that, they both have wonderful puzzles and fun side events and cute characters.
The Zelda franchise as a whole, of course, is fantastic. If you like either MM or OoT you should definitely check out the rest.
Skyrim cake...*wipes tear from eye* It's...so...beautiful... My husband was the Skyrim widower of the household. I ate that game up like a bar of dark chocolate with toffee and sea salt. The only thing that stopped me was...well, nothing actually, I'm just taking a break from it. ;-)
No disrespect to the rest of the bakers, but the Qbert cake is the awesomest thing that ever awesomed. And yes, the snake is a total @!#?@!
If you do plan on playing The Legend of Zelda the Windwaker. You may want to wait for when they release a new HD version of it on the Wii U. I believe it's coming out later this year.
The one cake is Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, which I was hesitant to play since it's 2D, but much fun. I ♥ Ganon.
My 3YO nephew makes his own Angry Birds game. He gets out his Mega Blocks and has someone make him a "level". Then he uses little plastic pieces from another game for the pigs and sets them on the structure. Finally, he uses more pieces from the other game and throws them at the structure to knock off the pigs. Pretty clever for a three year old!
Feeling old? How old would you feel if you helped your sister TYPE IN the commands for Qbert? Yep, pages and pages of commands.. And you didn't dare make a mistake lol

My wife and her brother watched me play several hours of FF7. I think they especially liked the Hell House.
My local Zelda experts tell me that it really doesn't matter which order you play them in. The timeline is all twisted upon itself anyway. :-)
They love Windwaker. Majora's Mask is indeed creepy. The very FIRST console game I tried was The Legend of Zelda on the NES system that my cousin had. Have fun filling in the gaps in your childhood.
@xanaminx Wind Waker isn't 2D. It's cell shaded and cartoonlike, but it's a 3D game.

My boyfriend got my nephew a star wars angry birds game for his birthday. You set up jenga-like pieces into a death star mold and then use the sling shot to fly the birds. It is a lot of fun!
Qbert ruled. Coily the Snake was a MECHA JERK. I am old. LOL
There's more than just Knock On Wood. There's On Thin Ice, Space, and a few others. My autistic 10yr old is slightly obsessed, and we have them all. :o)

The last one was indeed a wedding cake. It's always fun to see a cake I worked on make it to Sunday Sweets, even if I'm not in the cake business anymore!! The staff at A Piece of Cake has completely turned over since we made that cake.
Love, love, love the Skyrim cake!! I especially like that "happy birthday" was also written in dragon alphabet, instead of having the regular dragon shouts.
Legend of Zelda: Windwaker originally was released on Nintendo's GameCube. There was lots of drama at the time because it was cell shaded and cartoony. I had NO plans on buying a Wii U until I saw they were re-releasing this game for it in HD. I generally am a spectator gamer and just watch the hubby play video games. This is one of the few that I have played myself. The conductors baton used to wake the wind to move your boat around really pulled me in being a band nerd from my school years. The music is fantastic. It is challenging without being overly frustrating. Unlike LoZ: Twilight princess for the Wii there is no gimicky wiimote movements required. There were a couple of sequels to Windwaker on DS but the platform just wasn't up to the task. PLAY WINDWAKER.
Here I sit in suburban office in my Lilly Pulitzer dress and pearls going, "OMG. These are AWESOME. I'd DIE if there was something Horde, especially a female Blood Elf mage, from World of Warcraft..." I'm such a closet nerd.
Ahhhhhhh! I love, love, LOVE the Legend of Zelda cake! So much great detail from the Wind Waker, even the piggies that you had to catch in the village!
you can still play Zelda as an adult. I'm 53 and I just bought Zelda Skyward Sword and started playing it yesterday
Well, if you don't like being a game widow, never, ever introduce John to Eve Online. It never ends.
I've noticed a few people recommending that if you should decide to play windwaker, you should wait until the HD version comes out. I would just like to second that notion, with a tidbit of information that I haven't seen mentioned.
The original gamecube version of windwaker has become a surprisingly rare game. It's very hard to find at used game stores and downright impossible at the bigger chains. If you look online, you'll notice the copies sell for $50~100 depending on their condition. When we were looking for it a month or so ago, we saw one for $175!! Luckily for us, a friend had an old copy lying around that we could borrow to play. So if you do decide to play windwaker, wait for the HD version unless you already have access to someone else's copy.

I have to say that you are smart not to get into WoW. i wasted over 5 years of my life and gained copious pounds playing that game 20-40 hours a week and it didn't even register how little else I did in that time. I doubt it would be that easy to get into now anyways since they have nerf'd everything down to such a simple concept that the only part that is at all challenging is the PVP part which is too violent for you anyhow. The game is not what it used to be, so if you've stayed out this long you might as well stay out for good.
Qbert! My favorite. I actually dressed up as a Qbert arcade game for Halloween in the mid 80s.

The Majora's Mask cake is so gorgeous that it sort of makes me forget that it's the embodiment of evil. And I do need to point out that the Triforce on top of the Wind Waker cake kind of looks like cheese triangles, but in a good way.
Cakes like these make me happy all over again that someone introduced me to this blog a couple of years back. And people like me are bringing new wreckies in (I got my mom to start reading it with the Mother's Day Sunday Sweets edition.).
That Machinarium cake is sooo perfect! The only thing that would make it better, to me at least, would be if someone made one with the band, because that is my favourite part of that game. Half the time I'll just sit there for a while to hear that song over and over again.
