What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

You take the blonde. Elmo take the one in the turban...

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

There as no way I thought I would laugh today, but I did a little. Thank you, celebrity mash-up.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

That first comparison actually made me guffaw! Thank you!!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

I guess you have to take into account who it's for: my 5 yr old loves the "Woody"cake but thinks Elmo is "creepy". other comments: "mom, its a Dora cake!" and for the last one, "sprinkles!"

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTamiko

WOW! Those are amazingly accurate mashups. Color me impressed (and slightly nauseous).

Sung to “Come Together” by the Beetles

Take our guy, Woody
Plus Paul from Spin City
You get “Kind”-a Woody
We’re just Mad About Him
Next you add Elmo to Igor, please
What you get’s a Muppet
With that bug-eye disease

Next our dear Dora
Teams up with ol’ Gumby
How can she be so flat
Yet still look so chubby?
Let’s take Broomhilde, add a sprinkle or 3
How can she be festive
And yet look so icky?
Mashed together, right now
Wrecks like these.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Hahahahaha!!! That was simple yet hilarious.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered Commentershe-she

How much research did that take? Those were amazing likenesses!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJeneric

Jen your humor and creativity is GOLD

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

I am SO GLAD I know not to drink or eat while reading Cake Wrecks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY.. hee hee hee

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLisa-Marie

Any post that references my favorite movie EVER, and with sprinkles no less, is totally off the awesomeness chart! Well played, Jen. Well played.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCookieD'oh

Best post ever!! You are a genius!!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAnne

I'd love to assume there's a decorator out there who's a Mel Brooks fan (could we pretty please see THAT cake collection?!) but I doubt that's the case here.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLee

Amazing work on those mash-ups. Hilarious!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterThe Tina

Those were PERFRCT mash ups. Loved it!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAmelia P.

HAHA. I love the Woody one!! TOO FUNNY

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLauren

Hys. Terical.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterwordphreak

THIS is why I love cakewrecks.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJanice

"....Cuz he's got Marty Feldman eyes..." Great. Now I'm going to have Weird Al running through my head all day...

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

lol.....tooooo funny....couldn't have been better if they had been planned....

@Sharyn -- spp
@Haiku Joy: a little laughter is good...it can be a momentary bit of relief and respite sometimes from the heaviness of life...keeping you and your friends in my thoughts....

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermel

Your mashups are awesome. I love the way you think!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterkbirdcarr

These are spot on.

=1 Speaking of spots, why is Woody's face all lumpy like that? Think I'll go with the time-tested 'copyright infringement avoidance' theory. Ok, it's weak, but it's "my theory, which it is, and it is mine, too." -- A. Elk

=2 Ah, bug-eyed things in bell jars. Talk about needing air holes...

=3 Looks like Dora has been doing some weightlifting. Poor thing, that backpack must be heavier than it looks.

=4 Sprinkles!

Raining here. Cyber hugs to anyone who might need some.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

Incidentally, the best cross over ever was when Cookie Monster was on The Muppet Show with Marty Feldman! Never considered Elmo for the part...

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKimberly

I absolutely LOVE that you used Young Frankenstein and Men in Tights references!! <3 Mel Brooks to the day I die.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDez

After being a writer for more than 30 years, I must humbly bow to the master. Anyone who can write a blog post with only 4 plus signs and 4 equal signs, AND make it hilarious, AND include sprinkles is a GENIUS.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

I am so glad that you have finally recognized that Sprinkles are celebrities. Just like Lindsay Lohan, Sprinkles make everything a party.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

oh. my. god. I never laughed so much at one of your posts...!!! And I usually laugh my a** off!!!!! Hillarious!!!!!!!!!!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMichele

Like them all, but I have to say for the "Dora" one I see more in common with Mr. Bill than Gumby...

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterChristine

I've been seeing those Elmo-ish cakes around my local bakeries along with what I can only guess are supposed to be other Sesame Street characters. They kind of terrify me.
Most impressive use of +'s and ='s today!!!

@Haiku Joy ~ My heart hurts for you and your friends. Big hugs and warm thoughts and much love coming from WA for you! My offer still stands if you need to vent or just talk.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJodee in WA

A picture is worth a thousand words....

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTwinMom

Farfenkugel. If I vos you, I vould NEVAH do zat again! Any qvestions?

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKrissy

I've never commented on your posts before, and I do read EV.E.R.Y.D.A.Y.! And I usually giggle & smile, & occasionally LOL. Today's post was a 3-fer. Thanks for spreading your particular brand of sunshine. I think Elmo is my fav.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRanda

Those sprinkles did it for me.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEsther

Okay, I just spent 5 minutes laughing, and I hadn't even scrolled past the bottle of sprinkles.

And another 5 minutes after that... thanks.

@BADKarma - I know he's associated with parody songs, but I'm hoping you aren't one of those folks out there who think that "Wierd Al" wrote and recorded every parody song out there. "Marty Feldman Eyes" is actually from an artist named Bruce "Baby Man" Baum. It's just one of the things that grinds my gears.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCybrczch

Fredrick: Damn your eyes!
Elmo: That's not very nice.
Woody: YEEE-HAWWWW!!!!
Fredrick: Somebody call my agent.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAidan

I am howling with laughter here!

El-gor is a hoot, but the sprinkled Broomhilde just made my day.

Funny thing is, my 10 y/o understood every reference except the Spin City one. He agrees that El-gor is frighteningly horrific.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

I'll bet that last cake is Toasty Warm!

(Sorry, couldn't help it.)

Fantastic sources there guys, truly.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

That Elmo cake is Abby-normal.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSuzieQ

How long have you been sitting on these? Waiting for that ONE LAST MASH-UP? Brilliance. Sheer brilliance.

And don't call me Sheerly.

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTrudy

Favorite CW post EVER!!!!!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterginny

lmao, as soon as I saw Dora I knew it would be good, but the sprinkles in the last pair really, well, take the cake!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterelizabeth

Wonderful post! I'm just glad most of the office is cleared out for the weekend, or I'd have some 'splainin' to do, what with all the barely suppressed giggling going on.

No disrespect to your mash-up, Jen (it's spot on, of course), but that last one looks like a cross between Princess Leia and your Beast-looking CCC (ptooie!) from long ago - with sprinkles.

@Sharyn - brilliant, as always
@Haiku Joy - sending virtual hugs your way

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAnne-Marie

On a scale of "not that bad" to "dear lord what have I done?" where does dismembering Dora at a birthday party fit in all of this?

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKMB

All of your wrecks are wonderful, but this one is particularly brilliant. Bravo!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterErin

How do you come up with this stuff!? Brilliant!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBarb

Brilliant!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKaaren

That was hilarious! I needed a good laugh today. Classic!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSandy

"I'm Dora, dammit!"

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRick

That reminds me, has anyone seen the Dora carseat? That thing is terrifying!!

January 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLittle Lovables

Flipping hysterical!!
