What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Cool Character Sweets

What better way to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday than with some cool character sweets? (I know. That doesn't really make sense. Go with me here.)

Starting with Kung Fu Panda:

(Submitted by Barbara E. and made by Manjares)

And here's a little Homer Simpson made by the same baker:

An absolutely amazing Stewie from Family Guy:

(Made by Sandra W. A non-pro. Can you believe it?)

And an adorable Snoopy:

(Submitted by Jessi J. and made by Cakes By Francesca.)

For our fondant-free sweet, we have Sweetums from the Muppets:

(Submitted by Kate W. and made by her parents.)

And here's a great Mike Wazowski cake:

(Made by Caroline)

What better way to end than with Eeyore. Absolutely adorable!

(Made by London Cakes.)

Have a Sweet to nominate? E-mail it to me at Sunday Sweets [at] Cake Wrecks [dot] com.

"mike wyZOWski!"

I love that movie! I love your site, too, and hope John is feeling better and Jen is feeling cheerier!

Thanks for all the giggles!

Wow-- thanks for these! I now want a Peanuts cake for sure sometime, but if I were going to pick a Muppet, wouldn't be Sweetums. Sorry, Sweetums-- but an amazing likeness, just the same!

Great detail on Homer: Donut? Check. Gas expulsion? Absolutely.

That Eeyore cake is great, but can you imagine cutting into it? Oh the humanity!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAlison

omg... Sweetums!!!! That cake was awesome, although Eeyore might be my fave, just because he is so cute!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJules

Eeyore is soooooo cute. I wuv him.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMim

I was thinking the same as Alison - how could you cut into a cake that cute? Especially in front of children? (who wants Eeyore's eye?)

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMJ

That Eeyore cake is ADORABLE!

Because of this post, I'm now contemplating a Mike Wyzowski cake for my birthday next weekend... Hmm...

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

Was Kung Fu Panda wearing Michael Myers' hockey mask....or was that just my imagination?

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered Commentermorriganscrow

Is it just me, or should the decorator of the Eeyore cake used a different color or fondant for the greeting balloon? It looks like a puddle of drool leaking from the corner of his mouth.

Other than that, it was pretty incredible!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

O.M.G. that Stewie cake has SMOKE coming out of it!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBrat

I absolutely LOVE Sweetums! One of my favorite Muppets!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKerri

anonymous - I was thinking the SAME thing about the Homer cake!! awesome.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterNichols

I love the Mike Wyzowski cake!

But the Homer Simpson cake...Correct me if I'm wrong...Are those...Fart lines coming out of his behind?

Eyeore is probably my favorite animated character ever! I'd love that cake.

wv: ingere What happens when I get to enthusiastic with the wife's lingerie!

While the Snoopy cake is cute, I was disappointed to see "Damn you Red Baron."

I believe that Charles Schultz never used the word "damn" in any of the the Peanuts Gang / Peanuts cartoons and the correct quote is "Curse you Red Baron!"

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLou C Tiel

Lou C Tiel,

I think you're right. I was wondering that myself but I just looked it up and the word was "curse."

Who knows? Maybe it was a mistake, maybe it was intentionally done that way at the customer's request.

Have a great day!

I was in love with the Snoopy cake and all ready to declare it my favorite until we got to Eeyore. That is an adorable cake!!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

Mike Wazowski!!!!!!!!! I love that movie! Awww....

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSadie

I didn't think it could get cuter than the Mike Wazowski... Then you put up Eeyore. Adorable.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterThe Boob Nazi

I heard of a kid's party where the kids cried when Elmo was sliced up!

It is sort of creepy to cut up a life-like looking cake of your favourite character.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterFleur

I like the non-football cakes on a football day! That's my kind of post! :) The Snoopy one and Eeyore ones are my faves.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCakedreamer

Oh, the Eeyore! I want one!

There are a lot of great Sweets this week, as ever... but, that Eeyore cake just took my breath away. And, as ever, that dreaded "baker unknown" tag makes me sad.

That's the one drawback of Sunday Sweets -- the occasional unknowns whose names have been lost to the eternal Internet ether. Because whoever baked that last cake (and some of the other 'unknowns' in Sweets past, of course) deserves a standing ovation.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

all the cakes are sweet and yummy today.

but that eeyore cake is The Best!! lily mae is one lucky lil girl!

eeyore is my very favorite pooh character. he's such a middle child (it takes one to know one)!

heh heh

"thanks for noticin'." ~~eeyore

I love that you've posted cake from Manjares (all the way here in Chile!), their cakes are really pretty and really, really delicious. I bought my birthday cake there, marzipan, dulce de leche, and I forget what else. So good!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterVal

I love the Snoopy cake! That looks like a great way to get a lot of servings into a sculpted cake.

I'd feel bad cutting up the Eeyore cake. I can just hear him complaining that oh well, it's what he was made for anyway...

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

I ♥ The Eeyore Cake!! I want that for my Birthday!! I also love the snoopy and the Mike Wyzowski one. =)

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCheressa

Snoopy FTW!!!!! :-)

And, speaking as a lifelong Peanuts nut, Lou C Tiel is correct. Charles Schultz would never use a curse word. Other than 'curse' which is what should have been on that cake.
But it's still flippin' adorable!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHobbit

1) I agree with the others that it looks like Homer is farting. Which is funny if intentional, a little creepy if not.

2) Yes, I would believe any of the Sweets could be made by a non-pro. Nobody's ever paid me for a cake and I've won awards. Some of us do it for love of the art but don't have the time/energy/finances to start a business. Or we live in a state where a home bakery business is illegal and we don't want to risk running afoul of the law.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKimberly Chapman

I thought Eeyore was drooling, too.

And what's up with the "Live Long and Prosper" behind Stewie? That's pretty funny.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I'd be very worried about having those candles that close to Homer's butt. Look at his diet, that guy has to have some serious gas!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRhonda

I just want you all to know that I look forward to your blog every day!!! I am on a diet and somwetimes, even the rough ones are looking good!

Thx, Nicky

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Just once I would like to see a 'sweet' that looks, you know, edible.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Amazing. Sweetums doesn't look at all like he's made of poo. Which just proves it can be done. Take THAT, Wreckerators!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRobyn

I knew I recognised the style!!! Eeryone is by http://www.londoncake.com/Childrens%20Birthday%20Cakes%20Page%201.htm (scroll down to the 4th or 5th from the bottom - right hand side!!) - Relznik x

Sweetums, lay your ugly head
Down upon your wretched bed.
Close your eyes and go to sleep,
Rest your head, you hulking heap.
Sweetums is so sweet and cute,
Go to sleep, you stu-pid brute.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterandygirl

Great cakes, but the candle placement on the Homer Simpson cake creates an inadvertent jolly-colored fart blast!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered Commentermartini

All of these cakes are absolutely incredible. The Eeyore one is my favorite. Eeyore is my favorite Pooh character and one of my favorite Disney characters so he was a shoe-in for me. :)

To Tammy Lee, thank you for clearing up the name issue on the Eeyore cake. I was sitting here thinking "wth would name their kid Lily-Moe?" lol It still kinda looks like Lily-Moe to me even after the clarification.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLaurie

omg I love Eeyore!
Is Stewie eating a stick of dynamite???

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterElisabeth Marie

sweetums looks a little scary to me

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRachel

Eeyore looks like he came right out of the screen! Hard to believe that's a cake.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterdeckardcanine

Snoopy minus the expletive and Eeyore bring back such wonderful childhood memories! Snoopy looks like a collectible bisque figurine-just exquisite, and Eeyore just looks so huggable!

Stewie is amazing as well.

I'd have a hard time cutting into any of those cakes!

Those were so cute. The detail on these were incredible.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMary

great cakes! I love your site, and read it every day.
p.s. I think stewey from family guy is spelled stewie.

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPete

Ohh the eeyore is the cutest!! i want that for my birthday!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCandee

that snoopy cake is SOOOO awesome! i was all ready to say that was my favorite of the post, but then i got to the mike wazowski cake and thought nothing could be cuter. but then eeyore? oh my gosh! absolutely adorable!!! most excellent post!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLaura P.

Stewey and Eeyore are amazing! Not sure I'd have the heart to cut into any of those masterpieces!

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterEmily

I want that Snoopy cake! :)

I have to question the placement of the candles on that Homer Simpson case though. Were they intentionally trying to make him look like he was breaking major wind?

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Love the Snoopy and Eeyore cakes - too cute! :)

February 7, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

The Eeyore cake is simply perfection. It doesn't even look like a cake. It looks like a toy, or a piece of ceramic. Amazing.
