What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Cool Character Sweets

What better way to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday than with some cool character sweets? (I know. That doesn't really make sense. Go with me here.)

Starting with Kung Fu Panda:

(Submitted by Barbara E. and made by Manjares)

And here's a little Homer Simpson made by the same baker:

An absolutely amazing Stewie from Family Guy:

(Made by Sandra W. A non-pro. Can you believe it?)

And an adorable Snoopy:

(Submitted by Jessi J. and made by Cakes By Francesca.)

For our fondant-free sweet, we have Sweetums from the Muppets:

(Submitted by Kate W. and made by her parents.)

And here's a great Mike Wazowski cake:

(Made by Caroline)

What better way to end than with Eeyore. Absolutely adorable!

(Made by London Cakes.)

Have a Sweet to nominate? E-mail it to me at Sunday Sweets [at] Cake Wrecks [dot] com.

I wasn't sure if these cakes were wrecks or not. The first two raised questions. Kung Fu Panda's leg is bent in the wrong direction and Homer looks like he has a bad case of flatulance. But the other cakes were more convincing that this was an entry of actual class. Especially with Eeore [sic] and Stewey. Well done bakers on those ones. And the Snoopy one too, that was cute albeit disproportionate.

I made the Snoopy Red Baron cake, and yes I did get the quotation wrong, but I didn't realise until after it was done, and as it was a long running joke with a friend who also has misquoted Snoopy for as long as I have known him, I didn't change it.
Here's a link to my Flickr photostream where this was most likely found. I have already noted the error.

I want that Sweetums cake for my birthday! He was one of my favorite Muppets when I was a kid (along with Bean, Robin, and Kermit).

Bahaha! The panda's pose is the same as my cat's when he's cleaning himself, ahem, *there*.

These were great, especially Eeyore!!

The only thing is that Snoopy doesn't swear.

These are such amazing cakes.

Oh, Jen and John. I have been reading your blog for quite some time, and must say, as a fellow red pencil geek, I do laugh at all of the spelling errors. But now, I must point out that you have one.

It's Stewie you imbociles (as Stewie himself would say). LOL :) Keep up the good "work".

Awe! I want the Snoopy and/or Eeyore cake! My birthday is St. Patrick's Day, someone should remind my friends.

I think it goes without saying that I love the Eeyore cake. :)

While these are all lovely and well done cakes, I have to cringe looking at them--how many copyright laws are being broken here?

I love Eeyore. That is one great cake.

I love the Sweetums cake, but I wish the nose had been smoothed out better. Nothing ruins good-looking food faster than a blatant reminder that it's had hands all over it while in preparation!

Especially if those hands were squishing away at it... :P

That Sweetums cake could have turned into a wreck so easily.

I love all these characters and these cakes are awesome!

Great post!

Woo Hoo - Sweetums doesn't look like a poo-head!! It really looks like brown fur (in an icing-y kinda way!)

Congratulations to Fran, maker of the Snoopy cake, for the proper use of quotation marks, even though the quote itself was wrong.

February 8, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterShelley

OMG! is there anything more ironically sweet and precious than an Eeyore BIRTHDAY cake?! HeeHaw!
Are there thistle cupcakes??
made my day.

February 8, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAlex

oh, pooor eeyore!! you mean some one will actually cut him up???? what a wreck!

February 9, 2010 | Unregistered Commentervb

NOOOOO DONT CUT EEYORE!

February 10, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLauren Borquez

The butterly's middle is made of crap!

February 11, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPie

I thought the Muppets one was supposed to be Chewbacca. And when I saw the Eeyore one, I was like, "That's a cake?!" Very cartoon-realistic.
