What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: A Rainbow of Wedding Cakes

Originally I was going to feature Winter Wedding Cakes today, gang, but all the white-on-white-on-white was putting me to sleep.

So instead, I decided to hunt down a full rainbow of wedding cakes, each one featuring some in-your-face, bold, beautiful COLOR. Woot woot!

Take it away, Mr. Biv.

(By Inspired by Cake, Australia)

Yesssss, that's more like it! This red practically glows, and wow is it stunning with the black-and-white damask. The sparkle up top is from edible sequins, but it's those ruffles that steal the show.

(By S'more Sweets, California)

My favorite color is getting two entries, because there's a criminally low number of orange wedding cakes out there, my friends, and that needs to change. Just look how gorgeous this color gradient is! The gold Henna is the virtual cherry on top.

Or, if you're not ready for a solid orange wedding cake, how about a fiery accent like this?

(By Have+Some+Cake, UK)

This cake is LIT. I love how that top streak reaches up like an abstract flame.

Now let's jump from my favorite color to my favorite flower:

Poppies! And sunshiney sweet ones, at that. It's hard not to feel a little warmer and happier just looking at this.

Yellow gets a double-feature, too, because I couldn't bring myself to cut this one:

It's just so happy. This is the perfect Hufflepuff yellow, btw, with that warmer gold tone - and so dapper with polka dots! I want to find an outfit like this for our next Dressed To The 9 3/4s day. :D

Check out the soft blending on this one:

Those greens looks positively velvety. Swoons-ville.

This one has serious Cinderella vibes:

That platinum gold with the soft blue? Perfection!

I had to include a richer blue, too:

(By Fancy Cakes by Lauren, Texas)

This reminds me of my mom's Delftware collection, but with a modern twist. I just can't get over the color, it's SO vivid.

I always have a hard time distinguishing between indigo and violet, but I think this beauty covers them both:

(By All Things Cake, Oklahoma)

I'm digging the mix of modern and traditional - plus how convincing is that marble? SO good.

Of course, if you can't narrow it down to one color of the rainbow, why not go with all of them?

(By Designer Desserts, Indiana)

Technically black contains all colors, but I'll admit I'm mostly here for the flower rainbow. :D

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope these made you smile, and that you have a beautiful, colorful week.

I wonder, how do you serve these tall cylindrical cakes? Cutting the traditional way doesn't seem to work.

im a retired art teacher. your comment about colors is wrong white light contains all the light waves of color. Black is the absence of light. i always told my students to go in their closet and close the door and see if they could see the colors of their clothes. try it Iloveeeeee your blog!!!!

Black is the color of all pigments mixed together. Filtering out and absorbing all color.
