What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

What's This?

Earlier today John had the song "What's This?" from Nightmare Before Christmas stuck in his head.

After looking at these Wrecks, now *I* do.

What's this? What's this?

There's color everywhere

What's this?

There's white things in the air

What's this?

It's orange and so hairy - what's the deal with those two berries? I don't care!

What's this?

[bumpahbumpahbumpabumpabumpabBUM]

What's this? What's this?

I can't believe my eyes,

What's this?

A donkey tank surprise?

What's this? A swirly mass so curly, could the purple be too girly? Should this song be ending early?

No we're going 'til we hurl-y!!

What's this?

Could it be, oh could it be? Did I get my wish?

Here's something that makes sense: a meteorite bird fiiiish!

What's this?

[dumpadumpadumpadumpbaBUM]

[wheeyouwheeyouwheeyouwhee...]

What's this? What's this? There's something very wrong!

What's this? That blue thing's really long.

What's this?

It's positively crappy, and yet I feel so happy, have I possibly gone sappy? I think I need a nappy 'cuz this song is kind of rappy so I guess I'll get a frappey and go shopping at the Gappy...

WHAT.

IS.

THIS?!?

S.K., Patrick T., Chris E., Reagan B., Rebekah W., Austin L., Alex S., Kaylyn M., & Mikaela, your guess is as good as mine.

Oh, and for your continued "enjoyment" I have a special treat today: while we were writing this post, John & #1 (aka "the other Jen") kept singing it to get the cadence right. This...got really entertaining.

So, I decided to tape them.

There were a few interruptions, but overall I think you'll find their rendition...um...well...just don't have the volume up too loud, k?

"Enjoy!"

(If you're wondering what my contribution is here, I'm the one doing the scrolling. And giggling.) Update from john: Please note that no animals were harmed during the making of this video. :)

OMG! The video is WONDERFUL! I was enjoying your post as usual, singing the song as I was scrolling through the post, but hearing John and #1 sing it (with the music no less) just made my day. Thanks for the smiles! And yes, now I too have that song stuck in my head...

#1 - Unicorn rainbow turd - 'nuff said.
#2 - Armless, faceless snowmen. Don't eat the yellow one.
#3 - The rare cross-eyed orange land urchin. (Watch out, he sticks!)
#4 - An homage to the Twilight Zone? An incomplete snail shell? A terrible nice? (Let's see if anyone gets that last one).
#5 - Obviously a sea horse.
#6 - The alien Eagle has landed! (Or surfaced and come ashore. We aren't sure yet).
#7 - Swamp Thing's younger cousin. (They don't talk about him much). Or it's a toxic waste dump fish-frog with a red blow-hole.
#8 - A Dalek with a very bad prosthetic arm.
#9 - One fish, two fish, brown fish, poo-fish. (With apologies to Dr. Seuss).

My chorus is rehearsing What's This for our Christmas concert... so not only is it REALLY easy to get this stuck in my head right now but I get the added joy of hearing this in my head in full four part harmony....

Sigh... Thanks... I think...

That video is the best thing ever! I love the phone call interruption the best.

That video sing along was exactly what I needed this Monday morning. Awesome!

I love you guys.

That last one is the pastry equivalent of my Monday. Thanks for the laughs, sighs, and WTHs!

This is sad, I get the last one. It's a representation of Rapunzel in Tangled when her hair is done up in a braid with flowers in it. Sad. So Sad.

I think #8 is a fire hydrant but it's sideways. I have no idea what #7 is but I would say it's upside down based on the writing.

I see what you did there, Tom.

#1 is Rainbow Poo - a LOT of rainbow poo!

# 9 is Regular Poo learning to morph into rainbow poo. All poo strives to become rainbow poo. It's a poo thing.

I really like the Meteorite Bird-Fish! The beak-lips are weird, but, otherwise I like it! Wait. I looked at it more. It's a CCC (patooie) with satellite ccs. Why do the alien satellite ccs have leaf toupees?

The last two are a fire hydrant and a cornucopia built on a gingerbread man. The others? Anyone's guess.

One of my favorite movies of all time -- this post was awesome!!

#1 is definitely Technicolor #2.

Too funny, love the video! Of course now I want to know the story behind the good news/ bad news phone call...

Clearly, #3 is a cake rendition of the plant disease "Cedar Apple Rust". It's remarkably accurate.

I feel so proud that I can identify the red one as a fire hydrant. :D Or should I be scared?

That last one just HAS to be Gingerbread Poop!

I’m with FM.

That is one huge unicorn to have that much on that first cake lol. Poop so much frosting poop my teeth ache just from me looking at it.

I thought the last one was plaited poo. Which means someone has an extremely talented colon.

I'm crying I'm laughing so hard. That song is BRILLIANT! AND John and Jen have great singing voices. I completely lost it at "we're doing this... it's dumb" Hahahahaha

Fantastic post and video. ROTFLMAO! Also, # 7 looks like a something off a Pathology slide. I sit through meetings that show endless pathology slides. This definitely is a dead ringer for one of those!

My ten year old daughter and I LOVED your video! Bonus on cake wrecks! She thinks the gingerbread man was decorated by a chihuahua and a unicorn, both needing a bathroom break. Anyway, thanks so much for your blog. We're home schooling for the first time, and you provide us some hilarious breaks.

The first cake would look pretty good if not for the pile of rainbow poop on it. Sean's cake was most definitely not made in a bakery. Unless it's a bakery that uses paper plates instead of cake boards and packages them in a cut down cardboard box. Somebody's neighbor/grandma/archenemy made that cake.
