What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Please Be A Joke Please Be A Joke Please Be A Joke...

A couple of eagle-eyed wreckporters found a local ad I think you'll agree speaks for itself:

"Top of the line," "cakes start at $200," and "no rude comments"?

Yep, nothing I can add here.

But in case you were wondering, "Just how long is Minnie's chin??" It's this long:

All yours for the low, low prices of TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS. And that's a U.S. ad, so sadly there's no chance of a foreign exchange rate that equals out to "I'm Make Cakes" paying YOU a few bucks, which we all know would be the only reasonable price.

Thanks, Beth M. & Mandi J.! Now, why the long face?

The term "chutzpah" comes to mind.

Walt Disney must be rolling in his grave! (Does this person have copyright permission?)

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterTiggy

It's a joke. It has to be. The pictures in the AD are pictures of wrecks we've all seen here on our favorite site. Look at Cindy? THAT one in particular I KNOW I saw here. Me thinks someone used those pics to make up this hopefully fake AD. It would be interesting if one of your wreck reporters actually responded to the AD just to see how far it goes, and then mess with them a little, or a lot. Yeah, mess with them big time. Are my evil tendencies showing again? I'm a wreckaholic and I like it!

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterCookiemama

I'm "make" comment: My favorite has to be the Hunny Pot cake with the love child of Winnie the Pooh and the Grimace. Or is that Jabba the Poo? Not sure which.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDominic

Technically that Minnie is a cupcake cake, which is still dreadful. I can't believe she stays in business. Who would order any of those?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJoJo

A whole $1 discount if you mention the ad? Why that brings it down to such a reasonable rate for such excellent work!

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAnne

$1 discount? Wow, this baker knows how to pull customers in...

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPolly

Because I have been forbidden to leave a rude comment I'll just say, "Pooh-bah..."

Did the Nigerian prince grow up to be a baker? Are these cakes ones need just "$20 more to finish" after you've paid your low, low, price of $275? This has "barely literate scam" written all over it. Well... not literally, because we all know that would come out as "Bearly Litrate Sam".

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterKit

Ah, but you DO get a whole dollar off if you mention the ad!

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDeb

Well, at least Disney won't go after copyright infringement on these ...

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterlittlemiette

Sounds like somebody has mildly overestimated their own abilities. Also, a $1 discount off a $200+ cake? Seriously?!

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterblazegirl12

I can get a whole dollar off when I mention these ads? How on earth does this place stay in business with such steep discounts?! I can't "inbox" them fast enough!!

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDee

This? Right here? Is why companies like Disney go after small businesses for copyright infringement.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterNagzilla

Okay, then!
I'M make fun of "Minnie Mumps"....er....cake?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

I have to agree with Cookiemama. It has to be a joke. And I remember that, er, "princess" cake quite clearly from this page. To the wreckporter who sent this in: please, please, please get in touch with the baker and attempt to hire him/her. I HAVE to know!!!

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

It's gotta be a joke...someone doing the ultimate in trolling.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

I'm on Team Joke. Someone is pulling your chin.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPersephone

I didn't know Hello Kitty was Disney. When Disney buy Hello Kitty?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterLashawna

When did Jay Leno start impersonating Minnie Mouse?!

It honestly took me a few moments to figure out that was supposed to be Winnie the Pooh. I thought it looked like a yellow version of either the cartoon character Schmoo from the morning cartoons in the 70's, or a version of Slimer the ghost from Ghostbusters. @Dominic, I like either or your interpretations too.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

Jay Leno called -- he wants his chin back.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterGoose

Minnie Mouse bears an uncanny resemblance to Margaret Rutherford - the Miss Marple of the 1960s.

Chutzpah indeed!

MaryO1230

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMaryO1230

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the Minnie with the lipstick (the very last one pictured in the ad) here on cake wrecks...

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterErin Murphy

Why are all candles on the Pooh cake all bunched up in the middle? Are they gathering together for safety or what?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMin

Oh wow! You mean I could be charging $200+ for the cakes I make? I could surely do this bad..um..good? Wow! I'm going straight home after work and baking up a few examples. Baking time should take the longest, because, what, 10 minutes tops to decorate each one? Then I'll put an ad on social media and start raking in the $$$. I'll finally have that work-at-home job I always wanted.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterRae

LOVE the $1 discount - that's definitely going to convince me to have them cater my next party!

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

I also cracked up at "$1" off...even if these were great, what is $1 off a $200 cake even matter?! hahahaha

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterS

I nearly choked when I scrolled down to see how long Minnie's chin is. Note to self: Never eat or drink while reading Cake Wrecks.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterTeena

Minnie Mouse and Jay Leno's love child?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMary Jane

I found the post on Facebook. I read through all the comments. I still don't know if it's a joke.

[Editor's note- Yeah, I'm not sure either. This sounds like somebody got caught doing something stupid and is trying to pass it off as a joke. At least, that's the impression that I got. "You wanna buy one of my cakes? No? Well... I was just... kidding! Obviously. I mean... sheesh." -john]

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterChiclit

What WILL I do with that dollar???

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterSue W..

I agree with Cookiemama - I think it's a joke someone photoshopped together. The cakes have wildly varying styles and techniques.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterChristy

That last one looks like a young Jay Leno with a pink bow in his messy hair...

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterKris

Is this cake a representation if Minnie Mouse and Jay Leno had a love child? :D

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDenise F.

If your prices start at $200 and you only offer a $1 discount for mentioning your ad, you've got problems. If you are charging $200 and up for these, you've got serious problems. Good luck with that, but don't give up your day job.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterTriciaL

Well...I have to admire their confidence.
Apparently I'm in the wrong business, if I could make $275 on a cup cake cake. Minus expenses that means I made $270 in like ten minutes

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMeridianMama

My daughter took one look and said "She has Kronk's chin." BWHAHAHAHA!

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

Right now some troll is bragging about how he managed to get a feature on the CW.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMiss Mindy

Minnie looks more like Pete.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

One can only hope the decimal is missing. $1 off a $2.75 cake sounds more reasonable...

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterLisaCat

That's Minnie and Pete's love child, yes?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDoodledorf

it was intentionally posted as a joke. :) Not by me, but here is the post.

I'm with Cookiemama; there is no way this ad is real. Bad grammar, awful cakes (some seen before), prices that would be too high even if the cakes were good ($275 for a CCC, ptui), and a ridiculous "discount", all add up to fake ad. (Maybe it is for a fake news newspaper.) (I paid $275 last month for an absolutely stunning cake that was 10,000 times better than the best CCC.)

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMariaTeresa

Did Leno and Minnie have a love child?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered Commentergomergirl

$1 off?! Hahahaha amazing

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterBeans

I would pay THEM a dollar to NOT make me a cake. And I
can't come up with a comment that's not a rude one! I wonder how many orders they get?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered Commentersweetlace

I can do that for $199.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAnjeliki

Just .......bless her heart.

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered Commentersouthernlights

Is that Minnie Mouse and Jay Leno's love child?

January 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterCheckofski

I'll do it for $175. $1 off if you mention this post. No rude comments.
