What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: 10 Adorable Baby Shower Cakes

It's been far too long since we oohed and aahed over Sweet baby shower cakes, minions. I blame myself. And sometimes John.

BUT NO MORE.

Because lookie:

(By De La Créme)

What Sweet monkey business is this?! I want to pet that fuzzy little tail, and those colors! Ah!

Of course, classic soft pastels are classic:

(By Shereen's Cakes & Bakes)

...and I love the watercolor touches in the clouds and balloons.

Did you know a cake can wear suspenders? And that it's just as adorable as it sounds?

(By The Cake Witch)

D'awwwww.

And I dare you not to gasp over this Sweet flower field:

Not gonna lie, this next one is my favorite:

(By On the Sweet Side)

Baby crocs? A rubber ducky pattern? All in an oh-so-cheerful yellow with the tiniest touches of pink?

YES PLEASE.

Though it's hard to pick favorites when there are baby elephants around like this:

(By Steel Penny Cakes)

...or chic chalkboard patterns like this:

(By Sugar Sweet Cakes And Treats)

...or ruffly nautical numbers, like this!

(By Butterflour)

IMPENDING PUN ALERT:

Here's a buzz-worthy design for the mother-to-BEE:

(By Cakes By Roselyn)

Now, the BEE VERSION OF HAMILTON:
"How lucky we are to be a hive right now!"

(Sorry/not sorry.)

And finally, good luck convincing yourself this gorgeous stack of gifts & wee crochet booties are edible:

(By Sweet Lake Cakes)

...because WOW. Am I right? WOW.

Hope you enjoyed Sweets today, guys! Happy Sunday!

Wow, those booties on the last cake really do look like crochet! And thank you for identifying the correct craft, Jen :-))! So often knitting and crochet get confused and this is not even real crochet and you are not writing a yarn related blog, so really, big woolly praise (with sprinkles on top *g*).

Who would ever want to cut into these cakes? Some of them deserve to be framed!

Oh, these are all so special, and I loved the "mother-to-bee" cake because I LOVE bees, but my favorite is the top of the last cake...the little mouse holding the baby reminds me of the Beatrix Potter stories that are so wonderful! Another "wowser" of a showcase to get the funny taste of the wrecks out of our minds!
=^~.~^=

So cute! Lovely color combos, too. Too bad it's all fondant.

Beautiful! So much better than the other, ahem, "baby shower cakes". You know the ones I mean.

Would it be wrong to design a room around each of those cakes? I want to live in that house! (Must buy a bigger house with at least 10 rooms...)

*cries tears of joy*

Thank you Jen, for showing us that there are still beautiful, tasteful baby shower cakes in the world...ones that don't feature disembodied baby limbs, buried babies, nude female anatomy, or strawberry jam "gore"...
thank you, thank you, thank you....you gave us all hope today.

Thanks for the Hamil-pun. That made me crazy happy!

If you can pull of a Hamilton-themed post someday, you will blow us all away. There's a million puns you haven't made ... But just you wait...

These cakes make me a bit jealous that I never had a baby shower cake. My twins arrived earlier than expected, so the shower was held without me (I was still in the hospital & cake was not part of my diet). Now I'm wondering what I missed.

They're all wonderful, though... I hope I'm not alone as seeing the yacht on Alex's nautical cake as a cute tubby penguin in Mickey Mouse pants...

I wonder what it would look like if someone with this level of skill did a cake looking like a live baby. Or a pregnant tummy. Or a birth, so we can see what it would look like in cake.

You all would be just looking at them, you don't have to EAT them...

Does that 4rd cake have one of Haiku Joy's babies on it? (I miss Haiku Joy)
