What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Six Hilariously Wrong Wedding Cake Monograms

Not everyone is fully fluent in text speak and common abbreviations, so let's cut these couples a little slack, mkay?

Right after we finish laughing, I mean.

(facepalmheaddesk)*

*Do Not Attempt

Hey, guys! You've just make the most serious vow of either of your lifetimes.
OR DID YOU?

Aw, just kidding. Really. It's no big deal.

See?

Some of these could be chalked up to a simple oversight, but this? How could you NOT notice your monogram spells something?

I know it's an old joke, but...

...nope, that's pretty much it.

Hey, you're not superstitious, are you? Because some people might be tempted to take this as a sign:

It's all in the delivery.

And finally, my wedding monogram of the month:

[head in hands]

I can't decide if I'm more delighted or horrified that their accent color was blood red. I'm delorrified.
Or horrighted.

No, wait: I've had time to think about it, and I'm definitely delorrified. Mostly 'cuz that's how I'd describe Marty when he gets stranded in 1955. Right? Delorrified? Eh?

(You're welcome, BttF fans.)

Thanks to Amy M., Bobbi K., Deanna F., Maegan, Ruth H., Kimberly W. for the initial discomfort.

The AGE and PMS cakes are actually nice, well apart from that topper on the first one.

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNancy

It took me a while to get the second and third ones; the acronyms are still fairly new. AGE is fairly funny - I imagine the couple was making a joke. I just hope the others figure out initials and monograms before that start naming children.

I'm delorrified too Jen!

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

One can only assume the bride is passive aggressive in the first cake and warning her groom in the last one...

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMiss Paper

There's a reason I didn't have a monogram on my wedding cake. Or ask for monogram towels or anything else. And that reason is no one wants to eat cake with aSs on it. Or use a towel with that on it, for that matter.

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSheri C

As a JK married to another JK (actually he's a JRK but we won't go there), I am a total fan of the second cake!

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

The fact that, even with all that space, the monogram is not centered is also NBD.
One of my favorite bad monograms? oFu - and the bride put it in EVERYTHING! I still have a wrapped mint somewhere.

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered Commenters.marie

I bet there is one out there that says WTF that would be an interesting couple...

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterEmily

Since I don't text, I had to Google NBD, so I would have never caught that one. The PMS cake so perfect otherwise. I'm sure the bride and groom have a great sense of humor. Like the couple I helped who had decided to name their future son (if they had one) Rock. So his name would be Rock Thrower.

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTriciaL

Some of these monograms are T M I. (hee hee)

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterGingerSnap

Can we talk about the topper on the AGE cake? The bride nabbed herself a groom using a shotgun, a dog and a raccoon? And the poster presumably says it's open season on guys of marriagable age?

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterZeenia

Ours was "tWc" - everyone asked if it stood for "the wedding cake"

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTara

*wipes eyes* -- Red ribbon and flowers for the PMS cake. So glad I wasn't sipping tea...

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNancy

We had to avoid one of these in my husband's family a few years back. His sister is adopted and English is her second language. Her initial is A and her groom was T. We had to talk until we were blue in the face that T&A on her wedding cake was a BAD idea. Maybe someone should have talked to these guys a little longer...

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLindy

It's not just wedding cakes. Anyone remember the Wisconson Trade Federation?

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKilian Metcalf

I actually like the painting on the aGe cake...

I love the idea of DOA. That could have been a fun theme if they wanted to

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterGinger

You see, you have to know when not to do this thing! Our initials were either M&S (we're British) or s&m. We decided discretion was the better part of valour in this case ;)

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLittleleicesterfox

Someone decided to get us engraved glasses with our initials as a wedding gift. Unfortunately, they ordered it GAG. We called them our gag glasses. Somehow they magically disappeared at some point. Let this be a warning - watch initials before naming a child. They may grow up to hate you.

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterGAG

@ Sheri C. I had the same problem. I only have things monogrammed if I use my middle name instead of my maiden name! My mother was horrified when she went to purchase monogrammed thank you notes for my wedding!

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAmy S.

Ay carumba! You have to be soooooooooooooooo careful with letters these days! I was ROTFLMO at some of the posters stories too. Hilarious.

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMaryO1230

I had a friend "back in the day" whose last name was Landon. She joked that she'd name her offspring Amanda if a girl, and Knots if a boy.

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJMixx

Dumb question - is the middle letter in the monograms above the first letter of the surname?

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDNA

Delorrified is when they ban through trucks on your street.

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris Staffa

All I know is that to me #5 looks like lots of fun if you spin it right 'round, baby, right 'round, like a record, baby, right 'round 'round 'round...

(semi-obscure 80's pop reference ftw) >.>

March 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNerfbomb

omg wtf bbq ikr

March 3, 2016 | Unregistered Commentermee

We put T&A on top of our wedding cake! It was the best!

March 3, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterA

Honestly, I could let (most of) the monogram fails go if the cakes had actually looked nice. The last one is the only one pretty enough to get away with a brow-raising monogram, and that's the one with the worst monogram of all of them! I mean, really, I don't want to be reminded of dealing with that on my wedding day!

March 3, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAidan not Aiden

we put PMS on top of ours... on purpose. it's also on engraved things we have (jewelry, etc)... great memories... best part was my new MIL freaking out when she saw it! She wanted to "fix" before I saw it HAHAHAHHAA

March 3, 2016 | Unregistered Commenteryup

I made a wedding cake where that wanted the first letters of their first names...it was Stacy and Michael with and amperanad in between...S&M..I had them on top of the cake when my husband told me I probably ought to switch them around...

March 3, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTina Fredrick

I think I got lucky and just had a small non monogrammed cake lol. Though ours doesn't spell anything who knows what a wreckerator could do. Considering all I have seen on this site we got lucky lol.

March 4, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Nerfbomb ftw! (Although, all I think you need to do is find yourself a brand-new baker; one with decorating skills, who doesn't notice all the fakers.)

March 8, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJMixx

While I would have avoided several of those- dOa, pMs, etc- the fact that the monogram simply spells a word doesn't bother me, such as with the aGe monogram. In fact, the monogram is just about the LEAST wreckiest thing on that cake.

Speaking of other situations where more discretion might have been applied... I did have a friend in school named Alexis Sarah S.... And, the name of a local middle school starts with P, so all the students yell out "PMS! PMS! PMS!" at the ball games, events, etc, which the former middle schooler in me finds HILARIOUS!! And, finally, I cannot stand seeing the commercial for Universal Technical Institute... seriously, I do NOT want to go to a school whose name can be shortened to UTI. :(
