What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Did You See That Ludicrous Display Sunday Night?

Now that we've all had a day to recover, let's review:

The Panters:

played the Bronchos:

(Dangit, now I want brownie nachos.)

in the annual:

Poopy Party!!

That, or maybe the Bronco's
played the Phanters:

At the Super Bwol:

Which makes me want to play the Princess Bride "Mawwaige" speech again.

There were some... interesting... predictions:

And plenty of questionable advice:

(Pfft. Everyone knows you dribble at Football, bakers. I mean, COME ON.)

And though the [INSERT WINNING TEAM] prevailed in the end, the important thing is that both sides had terrible, terrible cakes.

And also that puppymonkeybaby has scarred us all for life. [shudder]

Now, let's get back to celebrating some real milestones, mmkay?

There's the spirit.

Thanks to Stephanie H., Jodi A., Howard G., Anna F., Beverly M., Brew C., Beth P., Chas C., Elizabeth L., & Amy K. for the home runs.

Missed wreck: In the first picture, the Denver Bronco cookies had Chicago Bears helmets on them.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSarcastro

Also, that is a Chicago Bears helmet on the Broncos cake in the first image. Minor infraction all considered, but still. :)

Well, I think I had the broncho this morning, but the eyebrows on that orange-headed Hannibal Lecter scared it right out of me. I WOULD like to know what the person who pooped that grassy football ate at their super bowel party. Yikes!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

So, maybe the fluffy helmets and the staring "hypnotized" eyes explains the missed passes, fumbles, and too many sacks in Sunday's game.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterShirley

I also find it very amusing that, in the first picture, the Broncos cookie in the foreground has a plastic pick--for the Chicago Bears.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDavid

Love the Chicago Bears helmet on the Broncos cookies!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterpaulyoung262

Love The IT Crowd!!! I was just thinking about that episode on Sunday LOL

Man... I guess people can't do EVERYTHING... either they know how to decorate or know about football... well... they probably know how to bake... =)

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMonica

What was Wenger thinking sending Walcott on that early? :)

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterRhona

Woot, I got the IT Crowd reference!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMarsha

I'd point out it was the "Phanthers," but inevitably someone else has already seen it. haha.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterHAL

I'm not sure what's worse about the first one. The misspelling, or the fact that they used Bears rings for the Broncos!!! Haha

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterClicheName

Those cookies in the first one, in addition to the Panters and what appears to be deer droppings on all of them, they have the Chicago Bears helmet on the the Broncos cookie. So many failures on just two cookies.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered Commentersue

Dolphins would be quite a prize. Better have somewhere to keep them!

And how about that... lice cake?

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNyperold

An additional level of wreckiness in the first one is that those are Chicago Bears helmets on the Denver Broncos cupcakes! The horror!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterjo

Mmmm brochos.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

IT Crowd FTW!!!!!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLara

The lice is almost gone? I thought "lice" was usually plural. Maybe this is one giant lice slowly plodding along...

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered Commentercelest

Even the stickers on the two faces are wrecks...it's not "are you ready for some?", but rather "are you ready for some football?" I'm sure they are trying to skirt around the copyright issues with the NFL, but the ? should really be placed after the football icons. Gotta love those eyebrows and mustaches too. Are they implying that Peyton Manning is old...I see grey hair on the Broncos guy!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTwinMom

Brownie nachos? WIN! (Until Applebee's or TGI's totally adulterates them.) Thanks, Jen! I AM SO going to make these.
The memory of having 3 elementary school kids come home with lice letter in their backpacks makes that last cake TOTALLY appropriate!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered Commenters.marie

Those two before the last two are absolutely terrifying! D:

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterCore24

Maybe the "h" in Bronchos is silent, just like it is in Eddie Van Blundht for any fellow X-Files fans out there!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNicole

Those two face cakes are in need of the NFL's concussion protocols.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterFelix1140

I would so order a cake celebrating the end of lice!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMaryJody

@Fellix1140 - I think the BAKERS of the two face cakes are in need of concussion protocols. I stared at the first one for at least a minute wondering why the old bald guy was behind the fence.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBluebonnet

The two 'face' cakes are just too.... I don't know what. Those "stickers" (or whatever they are) look like small deformed second heads.. AUCK!

The lice cake TAKES the cake. I remember as a kid getting lice - TWICE and it was no fun AT ALL. It didn't take long for my mom to figure out who the 'lice bandit' was... and I guarantee you I NEVER got a "lice cake" to celebrate their imminent departure more's the pity!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMaryO1230

GINORMOUS IT Crowd fan here! Go, West Ham!

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLesley

#4: I guess the Patriots aren't the only ones doing questionable things to the pigskin -- note the cylindrical football. Shame on you, PhaNthers. And of course, the Bronco's supplied the obligatory extraneous apostrophe.

But I'm certainly glad that the best team will win 'Dolgins', whatever those are.

#7: This cake may commemorate the first real-world attempt to play Calvinball. Pitch the football! Pitch it hard!

#10: Never, ever, let a cow eat a football.

#11: Okay -- sometimes, you just *really need* something to celebrate. But there are certain things in life where 'almost' just doesn't cut it. Lice is one. Er, lice are one. Actually, lice is a plural, so never mind. I'll just leave it there.

February 9, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

And here I thought we were safe from Super Bowel cakes.. boy was I ever hilariously wrong! Oh man cannot stop laughing and groaning at these.. things.

February 10, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Loved the stitched poop in a nest cake the best. (Didn't get the "wrong insignia" references until reading the posts.) ^5!!

February 10, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

That last one hit a little too close to home! I was picking lice and watching the game. UGH! I HATE lice!!

February 10, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

Singular of lice = louse.Same principle as mice, with singular "mouse." Except that "louse" is also presumably the origin of the adjective, "lousy." (Surprise! It doesn't mean "crummy," exactly! More like "infested.")

I'm tempted to find as many cases where that principle *doesn't* apply. Ice? Spice? Dice? Rice? Vice?

February 10, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJMixx

Since I know you like spelling, I must correct you on "mawwaige." In The Princess Bride book, Morgenstern spells it "mawidge." And if you haven't read it, you MUST! because it is fantastic and the movie follows it very closely. William Goldman's abridgement is hilarious and necessary.

And yay sportsball!

the thing about Arsenal is...

Poopy party, or party pooper?

February 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMary Malone
