What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

When Photo Cakes Go Wrong

Karen noticed something a bit odd about her son's "sports-themed" cake:

I mean, besides it being this ugly.

Here, let's take a closer look at that top picture, shall we?

ENHANCE!!

Why, yes, that IS a watermark... and a file name.

So did the baker really just grab the first thing she found on Google Image Search??

Of course not.

It's more like the 10th thing she found on Google Image Search.

I checked.

(If you'd like to play along, just type in "lacrosse sticks clipart.")

Bakers don't have to print the file name to wreck a photo cake, though.

They can also do this!

Or this!

Or the baker could leave off the image entirely, and just write the design number instead!

Trust us, Rebecca, it's better this way.

You know how, in every crime show, they always find a hidden room with a whole wall covered in newspaper clippings & creepy photo collages?

NOW IT COMES IN CAKE!

I like to think these are all the baker's victims.

"Looks like someone," [removing sunglasses] "GOT SERVED."

And finally, for you Doctor Who fans, here's how to take this famous Van Gogh print from the show:

And make a Whovian cry until they laugh:

BAD BAKER.

Thanks to Karen C., Jennifer I., Mindi A., John P., Kelli, & Anony M. for taking the time.

I am a WHOVIAN and I screaming out in pain and outrage.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPenny M.

So was the last one made by the little baker who cried, "Bad Wolf?"

A vendor who a work with told me the other day that they ordered a sports theme cake for a buddy's birthday featuring The Dallas Cowboys logo. What he got was a cake with a cowboy all right BUT it was a cowboy with a horse not a helmet from the Dallas Cowboys! Well he took it in stride luckily and they had a good laugh about it.

All these cakes are just terrible, but that one with the disembodied head stuffed inside Fonzi's jacket.....well, adjectives truly fail me.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne from GA

That last one... XD XD XD. I do wonder if they are even trying anymore.....

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Can anyone tell me what the 'hair' is made of in cake #3? Because I really don't want to think that 'is' hair.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCarla in GA

Are those printed on paper or edible icing? Because the outrage, methinks, would be worse if bakers had spoiled edible icing by printing their incompetence on it.

The Collage cake reminds me of the plant Audrey, Junior displaying its victims at the end of the movie Little Shop or Horrors.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterS

I'd like to point out that the crime scene collaige (sp?) cake looks to be actual photos, not edible paper prints. The pictures are very shiny a la' glossy prints. Edible paper usually has a very matte finish look to it. So that's fun! ;)

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMovieMom

Bwah, all the collage of doom cake is missing is the creepy red string tacked from picture to picture!

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

The Whovian cake is so wonderfully awful, it has possibly come full circle to be a win! Made me snort!

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRachel CrazyMum

Well played, @SuBee

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen S

@ SuBee: Hahahaha!

@ Jodi: Or red 'X's over the faces...

@ Jen (Mistress of the Wrecks): Nope. Still just crying.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJust Andrea

Photo collage cake: Just think if you were expecting the wreckerator to put your treasured photos on edible paper, and instead they just stuck the pictures on the cake. And ruined them forever. Let the weeping ensue.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Oh, that Doctor Who cake makes me weep.

(But I'm not a weeping angel!)

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSaraV

In the sports-themed cake, is the bottom picture upside-down? Looks like men's gymnastics rings to me.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBunnielove

So wrong. So, sooo wrong... all of these. ::sigh::

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterErica

Let's hope Confirmation #315 works and Rebecca doesn't need to be confirmed for the 316st time. It has to be expensive buying all of those cakes.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLuLu

ENHANCE! Super Troopers always comes to mind whenever I see or hear that, which is always a good thing. : )

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLori T.

Is it just me or does it look like the baker forgot to remove the backing off the edible image print before placing them on the cake? When I use edible images, they blend into the cake after a few minutes.

And the one with the "hair"...did anyone else notice the ombre' effect with the hair? LOL

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterStephenie

So that Doctor Who cake was made by 6 rather then 4 I take it then.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterIsolder74

Some cake wrecks I understand, because some things take skill and training, but if your problem is you're too lazy to cut something out with scissors...

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterElspie

That last cake breaks my heart. You don't mess with genius - not Vincent, not the Doctor.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBluebonnet

Anyone else seeing Quidditch goals in the bottom picture on the first cake?

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPadma

That last cake...it's a lie!!!

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterU-know-Who

Can we find a crack in time to toss that last cake into?

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSeabird

Forget a wreck, that "Leandro" cake is magnificent! I don't care what anybody says.

June 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMichellr

Oh my gosh. That is just scary lol. All of these are hysterical especially the leather jacket cake one. Rebecca's is rather pretty though just ignore the other 315 attempts at it lol.

June 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Amazingly, all the words are spelled correctly and the 1th one even has sprinkles.

June 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNobodee Home

Cake #3-poor Leandro. Fonztastic!

June 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

So, for the last one - Tom or Colin?

June 5, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMe

When is it going to be illegal to produce things this incompetently? I'll be the first to vote when it shows up on the ballot.

June 6, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDances with Lasagna

She said bad baker, so *obviously* Colin.

June 6, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterZardeenah

This act of aggression against Galifrei will not stand! >:C

June 6, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDavid

Obviously the last one wasn't made by a "Tom" or "Collin" Baker. *insert snarky laugh here*

July 25, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEric Ryan

That lacrosse picture is number 14 on Google
