What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Looks Like SOMEONE's Seen "Spamalot"

CW reader Tina's daughter was in a production of 42nd Street, so she ordered a cake for the cast & crew with "a few stars decorations, for Broadway sparkle!"

She got this:

HAY!

Thanks to Tina T. for the ear worm - and for helping me confuse everyone who's never seen David Hyde Pierce sing.

Looks like a chanukah wreck XD

I was so glad for the explanation under the picture. I had figured out 42nd Street, but the cost and crow business defeated me.

I sure hope that cake didn't Cost-A-Lot.

I was one who had never seen David Hyde Pierce sing, until..... ...hey, does that say say "cost and crew"?
=^~.-^=

Even thought today's my birthday, I think I'll " Passover" that cake!

March 30, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBigg3469

I thought to myself, "Finally, a Passover wreck," but then I realized most cakes would be considered wrecks for Passover, what with the flour and all... Anywhooo, I happen to know that there are many Jewish actors, producers, directors and crows working on Broadway. I'm sure they'd appreciate this cake.
As long as it wasn't Passover.

Now, bring on the lambs smoking cigarettes...

Happy Birthday @Bigg3469! Hope your cost and crew have a fun day celebrating with you!

Does it count that they spelled "Congratulations" correctly?

I know the score to Spamalot, but I've never seen the show. Thank you for the link-that was great!

Might have worked for "Fiddler on the Roof" -- the stars anyway!

If she'd been in "The Producers" would this be worse, or better?

Happy Birthday, Bigg3469! And remember: It's not over until the David Hyde Pierce sings!

Thanks for the link. I was watching the first few minutes and I was looking at the king...is that...NO...is IT??? No...couldn't be...IT IS!!! OMG that's Frankenfurter himself the Illustrious Sir Tim Curry! I didn't know for sure until I looked at the credits under the video. Even though I could barely see his face, there's just something about him that you just KNOW it's him. I had heard him sing a line or two when he was on Frasier. But when you lead with a Monty Python reference...HELLOOOOOOOOO I MUST follow that wherever it takes me, because...Monty Python!
I saw "cost and crow" as well.....
Happy Birthday Bigg3469!! Hope it is a great Spamalot day for you!

Cakewreck post win.

I just realized it appears I'm talking about Tim Curry singing on Frasier...wow, and I took TWO English classes in college...that's what I get for being excited over Tim Curry and David Hyde Pierce BOTH doing Monty Python!!! At the same time! I don't think Tim Curry was ever on Frasier, but I could be wrong. At any rate, I just want to clarify, that the "him" I heard on Frasier was in fact David Hyde Pierce...sorry

Carry on...

Broadway DOES have origins in Yiddish theater....

Oh man lol. At least they got stars just imagine if they wanted sprinkles on it.

"Fiddler on the roof!"

Mazel tov, 42nd Street cast and crew!

March 31, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterWildaBeast

Somehow, I want to believe that the baker had a really convoluted meta-message hidden: there are seven yellow and seven blue six-point (a.k.a. David's) stars; 7 × 6 = 42. If that is the case, that baker had a really convoluted idea in their head!

Well you know:

"You can't succeed on Broadway if you don't have any Jews!"

Ohhh my gosh. I love you for referencing David Hyde Pierce. I may or may not have had a thing for Niles Crane, so this one really made me happy.

Maybe the decorator was a Spamalot fan. Hmmmm...

April 1, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJeni

Somehow, I'd like to believe the decorator was savvy enough to know that David Merrick (aka David Margulois, Esq.), the original producer of the stage musical, was a Jewish kid from St. Louis, and thought "Hey! Stars of David in Rams and Blues colors!" I'm afraid in reality they were probably just easier to draw.
