What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Seuss Day Treats

If your one fish has a new fish he's about to roll away,

(By Sweet Discoveries)

And your Lorax speaks for trees because he has so much to say,

(By 4 Kids Cakes, featured here)

And your cake's all topsy turvy since the Things got in the way,

(By A Wish and a Whisk)

Then I think that we must all agree today's a special day!

(By La Dolce Dough)

And if Horton's feeling worried because dust has gone astray,

(By Frosted Cakery)

And Sam-I-Am insists that you eat food you'd throw away,

(By Dakota's Custom Confections)

When the fish surveys the wreckage of his house with pure dismay,

(By Alison F., featured here)

Then there must be a good reason why today's a special day!

(By Fancy That Cake)

If you're floating through the cool air of a sky that's never gray,

(By Dream Day Cakes)

And the hopping kids are asking if their Pop can come and play,

(By Say It With Sugar, featured here)

When all these wondrous stories come alive with things to say,

(By Cuteology Cakes)

Then I guess it's time to celebrate a Dr. Seuss birthday!

(By Let Them Eat Cake)

Happy Sunday!

I think I'm going to hunt around and see where our Dr. Seuss books got to. These are wonderful.

Here in Southwest Washington, it's traditional for a local restaurant to serve a green eggs & ham breakfast to schoolkids. They started many years ago with one school on March 2nd, but it has expanded to all area & three surrounding towns' schools too (sometimes on other days for convenience; for example, my princess' breakfast was Friday). Parents are invited & it has become a big deal. Volunteers serve up green eggs & ham & give out Cat-In-the-Hat style chapeaus.

After eating my share of green eggs & ham (harder than you think when you're faced with it), I'm with Sam-I-Am--I really don't want to eat them ANYWHERE. But I do, for the kids. And lots of kids think they're awesome! So I'm glad it happens, despite private objections.

Long live Beaches restaurant!

Is it possible for something more than perfect? If so, every one of these cakes, and the poem that accompanies them have achieved that. But my favorite has to be the green eggs and ham tier on cake number 8.

Thanks for my favorite blog, Jen (and John (hubby of Jen))
Thanks for the post and the poem, Sharyn
Thanks for the cakes, master bakers too numerous to name here
Happy Birthday, Theodor Geisel

I missed these yesterday (Sun.). :-( I was almost sure that the fifth one was going to be "Bartholomew and the Oobleck," because of all the gooey gloppy green guck, but I got it got it grossly wrong! They're all amazing! Thanks, Sharyn!

Thanks to my drive-to-work playlist, I read the post in tune with "The Scotsman" and it works very well that way - ring-di-diddly-i-o!

Those are fantastic! I loved reading Dr Seuss when I was a kid and got quite a collection for my kids when they were little. Got my smile on for the day!
