What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: Story Time Sweets

Once Upon a Time...

...in the Kingdom of Zuu,

(By Artisan Cake Company)

lived a helpful young owl his Mom had named Huu.

Huu danced with Petunia when she did ballet,

(By Dinky Doodle)

and untangled Sloth when bars got in the way.

(By Conjurer's Kitchen)

He always had time to tie Sally's red bows,

(By Planet Cake)

and if Hedgie asked, Huu would polish his nose.

(By Debbie Does Cakes)

When Flamingos ran errands, he'd stay with their chicks,

(By Mike's Amazing Cakes)

and he made sure that George ate the greens, not the sticks.

(By Planet Cake)

Huu'd help Raffi up when he fell in a heap,

(By Sprinkles Cakes)

and he sang lullabies, to help Flo go to sleep.

(By Little Cherry Cake Co. for Cake Bomb)

He prattled with penguins,

(By Janet MacPherson Cake Craft)

he combed all the llamas,

(By Viva la Cake)

he even helped meerkats put on clean pajamas.

(By Dootsy Dora)

And after all that, our Huu still wasn't through.

On Sunday, he shared all of his Sweets with you.

Happy Sunday!

Sharyn, I thought this was the newly discovered Dr. Seuss book!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Oh MY! So beautiful - but I couldn't even think of eating these!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBrenda

These just cannot be cakes - how could you take a knife to any of them?

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

I saw the Pig and thought, "Oh! I die!" and then I saw the hedgehog. Yup -- cuteness overload!!!!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen S

AH-Mazing!! I would really have a hard time taking a knife to those cakes! (But I bet they taste as good as they look!) Truly works of art! Thanks Jen for all your hard work!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne from GA

Red panda!! Red panda!! :-D

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterScaperMama

Wonderful cakes, wonderful story!

Love the owl! And the meerkat! And that llama!

Love 'em all, really. And love this site! =-)

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSeabird

Cuteness overload... squee!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterakathleen

Baby Oleg (that's the meercat, btw, you all knew that right? That his name is Oleg?) in CAKE!!! Argh, you just want to make me fat....(as if I could eat a meercat) I love ALL these......

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKirri

I have to wonder if the recipients of these cakes either don't like to eat cake, or purchase a regular cake to serve? Of course they are lovely, but a clay sculpture would be pretty too, and, at least could be kept. I miss the "old fashioned " cakes that were cute and cleverly decorated, but actually doubled as a yummy dessert.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAnnieG

Cutest. Sunday Sweets. Ever. The only thing that would make it better would be a koala cake. :)

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKerrikoala

Aw, thanks SuBee. I was thinking of Seuss when I wrote it.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

They're adorable, but I couldn't possibly bring myself to eat any of them. Could someone do porcelain versions instead?

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterOldish Lady

Dying of cuteness overload! Only thing better would be Death By Chocolate.

And Sharyn, I am humbled and awed by your poetry talents yet again.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

WAY too cute to eat....esp that meerkat in jammies! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJoJo

Thank you! This made me smile so big! What a wonderful gift on a Sunday morning! :-)

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDeb

For the first time ever, I am CRYING from the cuteness! That meerkat in pajamas is the most adorable cake ever, right up there with REAL puppies and kittens.

My hat is off to you, Sharyn for Huu's busy day in the Land of Zuu.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermsanthrope

This week's sweets and the wonderful word smithing accompanying the photos would make a delightful baby's first book! Do it for all the mommies.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterD'awed by it all

As I scrolled through I kept thinking they couldn't possibly get cuter than the last one but they did! They kept getting cuter and cuter until that adorable meerkat wearing jammies at the end that wins the cuteness overload award hands down! Seriously, how do people cut and eat these? I want that last one in a plushy.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSandy

This needs to be the next Cake Wrecks book. For children. Lovely rhyme, beautiful cakes.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSlgrogan

SO ADORABLE! I had to keep reminding myself that these were all CAKE!!! I would love to have them just as sculptures.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLarriann

So much cute! The perfect story to read to the 4 day old little boy in my arms.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

Sharyn, that was beautiful. Sweetly beautiful.

The hippo and the pj'd meerkat are my favorites. Too squee for words.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh

Add me to the chorus of "Too cute to eat!" I can't imagine cutting into any of these. As a child, I probably would have been hysterical if my brothers (it would have been my brothers) had even attempted to slice one of these apart!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFM

It continues to amaze me that humans can be so creative. Guess it comes from having a creative Creator. (((hugs)))

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterdarski

Sharyn, I agree with D'awed by it all. This would make a fabulous picture book. I wonder how something like your post could get published in hard cover? I'd certainly buy a copy for myself and my program.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDavid

they are all gorgeous but there is something about that meerkat - maybe the expression or the pajamas - that I am in love with.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterjane lewis

The meercat has bug jammies!!! SQUEEEEE!!!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterYet another Jen

Great post. Pig and Hippo are both Margie Carter original designs, credit where it is due. The orangutan looks like it could be her work too, she's not with Planet Cake anymore.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMargie fan

You can't slice up a sleeping red panda!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAlicia F

I LOVE the red panda--and the little lizard climbing up the side of the stump is a nice touch. (I'm surprised that there aren't bees and other bugs trying to get in on the sweetness, though!) How about doing a Sunday Snakes? There are so many beautiful ones, and if they can do lizards, why not branch out? (No, I'm not trying to be funny.)

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Absolutely adorable! Sunday Sweets for sure!! <3

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterIndigo

Baby Oleg does come as plushy. But I could never eat him as a cake: far too cute. (He's part of the Meerkat Macot family for an insurance firm in the UK)

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAndy McHugh

Love these cakes and especially I love the little meerkat cake his name is oleg!!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLyn hughes

Awwwz, Jodee!! Is he bigger than a cupcake? I'll bet he's sweeter! So happy for you!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Yup my son and I had a ball reading your story! Thank you!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermavsgirl

OMG I actually did an audible *squeeeee*

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Absolutely. The. Cutest. Sunday Sweets. Ever!!!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDeva

All the cakes and the story are simply adorable!!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJackieB

And I just died at the baby meerkat. :)

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBetsy

Don't try to snack on your pjs , baby Timon !!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterThe Former CB

The sloth! The sloth!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterzubo

Jen, add my voice to the chorus of "Next book, please". Just lovely.

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTanaB

You know you just wrote the cutest children's book ever, right?

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered Commenteralissa

Do you know, I actually read this to my kids as a childrens' book. They loved it!

February 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGingerSnap

Cutest. Cakes. Ever. It's not often a cake makes me go "squeee!"
