What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets: 11 Magical Castle Cakes

Whether they're made of sand, stone, or ice, there's just something magical about castles. So no wonder castle cakes are big - often literally! - these days.

From full-grown elegance:

To childlike charm:

And how perfect is this sand castle for a beach wedding?

(By Cake Lava)

A pretty pastel number:

(By The Brighton Cake Company)

I love the metallic shimmer on those turrets.

Anyone planning a Harry Potter movie marathon?

If so, then do I have the cake for you:

(By Red Carpet Cake Design)

In fact, I think this next one might be Hogwarts, too:

(By Mother and Me Creative Cakes)

Plus it lights up!

Of course, we can't talk castles without including Disneyland's:

(By Cuteology Cakes)

Or Disney World's!

(By Francine's Sweet Treats)

This wedding design is one of the prettiest I've seen yet:

(By Mike's Amazing Cakes)

And at first I thought this one was a ceramic sculpture:

(By Zoe's Fancy Cakes)

Sometimes castle cakes can look a little drab, but those warm golds and purple/fuchsias are perfection.

And finally, the grandest castle cake I've ever seen, served just two months ago at a wedding in Jakarta:

(By Cream and Lace)

WOWIE.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

WOW, those are gorgeous! I want to move into the second-last one. Except then I'd probably eat myself out of house and home.

Fun to see a Mike the Knight cake up there too! I vividly remember the year in which my son wanted to be Mike the Knight when he grew up. I'm not totally sorry to be past those days, because Mike is a little twit on the show and painful to watch, but I do miss the "knights and castles" phase in general. It's all Minecraft and Pokémon around here now - still awesome, but not as much swashbuckling. :)

Almost a dozen castle cakes and not an inappropriate tower in sight….IT CAN BE DONE!!!!!

The light-up cake is actually making me think of The Goblin Emperor. I'm sure it's not, but something about it is pinging that book.

I would like to see a picture of these cakes cut up and served. I cannot imagine how you even begin to cut into such beautiful works of art. And then eat it! It's beyond my imagination.

And THAT is how you do stairs on a wedding cake. Bravo!

I love that a girl named Imogen got that beautiful castle for her 18th birthday!
