What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Friday Favs 1/23/15

Some of my favorite new submission this week:

If that Frozen fiasco on Monday taught us anything, it's to be specific when you order a cake. After all, as Lynn's grandmother discovered, one person's "Ninja Turtle cake" is another's "Meh, just stick an empty pencil box on it."

I like how the green sprinkles really tie the whole thing together.

And speaking of Frozen, don't you hate it when you post a whole bunch of Frozen cake kit wrecks, only to have THE BEST ONE EVER come in the very next day?

Admit it, bakers: at this point you're just screwing with me.

Now, you might think that if a bakery only had to put a single edible image on a cake - an image that you made and printed out for them - then there'd be no possible way for that to go wrong.

You might think that...

...but you would be so, so wrong.

(Clearly the baker just wanted to protect the identities of those poor musicians.)

Indecent Proposal:

Tricia actually wanted the baker to draw a sad face, but I think this still works:

Awww.

And finally,

The Good News: Airbrush stencils are easy, guarantee correct spelling, and save time!

The Bad News: People are still dumb.

Bummer.

Thanks to Lynn M., MJ, Robin C., Liz A., Tricia M., & Tia K., who's pretty sure that baker will never invent Skynet, so hey, SILVER LINING.

Two face palms and three big chuckles. Starting out my day right, once again, with CakeWrecks! Thanks Jen and the team!!

Oh, that first cake...you expect something made from scratch...and end up with a box cake.....

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermel

Some of these cakes have got to be because the decorators are not native English speakers, right? Right? Well that's what I'm sticking with anyway. Especially in the case of the backward stencil...how could someone who speaks English as their first language mess that up?

Re: "will you Mary me?" cake

Obviously, the baker was distracted by the crystal meth he/she spilled on the (BLUE! The one color they don't come in!) rose.

The backward stencil wreckerator obviously used to be employed in my city painting turn arrows on the streets. He/she could never grasp the concept that the arrow should actually point in the direction the cars are supposed to turn. This isn't rocket science, man.

The biggest LOL for me this year is that last cake!

Okay, POOF - You're Mary!

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKay

@Tricia - bwahahahahahahahaha! That is WAY too funny. My thought was it must be accountants painting the signs and decorating that cake. My husband always says they drive by looking through the rear-view mirror (he's an accountant, so he can make fun of them that way).

1: @ mel: I considered what you said, but then scratched that idea... Then I thought there could be a crazy-optimistic outside chance that the stencil they wanted to use is IN the pencil box..so maybe...!
2 :We already saw the perfect "Frozen" cake on the 19th's Frozen post! Two perfect cakes in one week, and it's not Sunday!? Is this the Twilight Zone-out Bakery? =^0.o^=

HOW do these people breathe without reminders?

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

These wrecks are horrible. with a sad face

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterErica

I just plain lost it over the last one. Drock, I sometimes wonder if these people speak ANY language. A bunch of monkeys with icing bags could do as well - yesterday being a case in point.

What I am burning to know is : Did the bakery take off the Frozen toys (you can see the circle where at least the one was) or did the customer?

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermary fisher

The Frozen cake is proof that there comes a point when even the wreckers just give up and cease to try.

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGinger

Will you Mary Me? I even included my stash of cocaine, to show how generous I am. I'm quite the catch.

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

That last cake clearly comes from the Mirror Universe. Have you checked it for scars or goatees?

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterkhereva

Having purchased cake kits in the past, I'm pretty sure they come with directions including which colors and tips to use. I'm no pro, but I'm fairly certain I could pull off a better Frozen cake than any of the ones this week. Making Sunday Sweets, however, would be a totally different story!

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLuLu

That last cake is obviously from a parallel universe where everything is the opposite of what we're used to. The other decorators are terrible in any universe and should spend some time in the agony booth.

The first two can be attributed to sheer laziness. I wouldn't complain about getting the TMNT pencil box tho; a frosted decoration would just get eaten, but you get to keep the pencil box after the cake is gone!

#3 can't be interpreted as anything but intentional.

#7 "Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool"

The Frozen wreck shows signs of having been further defaced after the wrecker had perpetrated it. There are signs of that bit of readymade plastic tat having been wrenched off, as well as traces of three plastic snowflakes.

Celebrate good times
Come on!
It's a celebration!

That started a little after lunch in the back of the bakery. Got smokey. Wacky.

Whoo, whoo!

(Old disco song for you younguns.)

The real tragedy of the ninja turtle cake is the colour scheme - looks like parsley-bedecked poop.

January 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

What the.. who would put a pencil box on a cake? Lol. Well at least the kid and I assume it's a kid but I could be wrong, at least he got a pencil box out of the whole fiasco.

January 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Did anybody else try to say "Frozen cake kit wrecks" aloud?

January 24, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJana

That last one looks fine, so long as you serve it next to a large mirror.

January 25, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMike

The green "sprinkles" on the TMNT cake may be some kind of roe...and since they are green, perhaps they, too, have encountered some of the ooze. Soon there will be mutant fish to go along with the turtles.
