What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

It's A Von Trapp!

Go ahead, sing along...

D'oh! A deer, a wrecky deer:

Rays, what has your baker done?

Steve, a name, I call my Elf:

Fa, the way the frosting runs!

So, I think the bee is deeead.

La, I can't hear you, no nooo!

Eee! This dog fills me with dreeead!

That will bring us back to...

NO! No, no, no...

How do you solve a problem like a Cake Wreck? You send it to us! So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, and THANKS to Naomi Z., Robert B., Crystal, Rachel N., Mary J., Rob S., Claire B., and Sarah M.

Nicki Minaj HAS A TAIL! (Always believed she was from another planet)

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterShirley Fowley

Dead deer with arrows that puncture their dear heads
Cupcakecake bees that appear to be quite dead
Please put the photo there under the “Rays”
These are the Cake Wrecks I hope for these days.

Steve’s somewhat moldy, perhaps he’s just nauseous
Nicki Minaj never looked quite so gorgeous
I think the late doggie would like to go play
These are the Cake Wrecks I hope for these days

With best wishes
You’re dead to us
Hope that makes you sad
I look for my Cake Wrecks when I’m feeling down
And then I don’t feel so bad.

The "You're dead to us now" cake is actually pretty well done. Punctuation and grammar are all correct and it's done neatly. Only quibble is that "Dead" probably shouldn't be capitalized... unless that's part of the story? Is the person leaving their friends to go to Georgia and portray a zombie on The Walking Dead?

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterShavenYak

One must know the story behind the rainbow cake.

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterkhereva

Today's caks proudly brought to you by the Von Crapp Family Bakers....

That poor deformed deer

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermiss_paper

@SuBee: Brava!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Who names their road kill, now really? Poor Herschel.

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

Bahahahahahahahaha :D

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Who even orders a "Dead to me" cake? If it's real, it's easier and cheaper not to have a party. If it's a joke, I hope the recipient has ironclad self esteem.

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjohn

@mel... Bwwwaaahahahaha!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMovieMom

*shudder* That bulldog cake is going to feature in my nightmares tonight!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!! Well done, CakeWrecks team!!
@SuBee and @Mel -- AWESOME

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

LOL!! Classic. Great post, team!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLaura P.

Yesterday my brother-in-law hit a dear on his way to work. His car is totaled. Thankfully, he's alright. I think the deer looked suspiciously like that one up there. O.O

Steve has a slightly murderous look in his eye.

@SuBee ~ I totally sang along and will be teaching this to my grandchildren someday. Classic!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

The frightening dog cake is ... well, frightening, but awfully well done, really, don't you think?

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterrolypolyducky

Yesterday, Princess Bride. Today, Sound of Music. Double-win! If tomorrow is Monty Python my week will be complete...

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterherding.cats

I kind of love the Niki Minaj cake. :) She is so bizarre that that cake is perfect. I also want to know what the Dead to us cake is about.

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

I love the dead to me cake. I will try and focus on that because the others are giving me nightmares. well done!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commentertokenabc

Now who thinks, "What my friend really wants is a dead dog head cake!"? Or perhaps they are planning to put it in someone's bed? What the frosting...

CW team, great job today!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

Ohhhh... I know someone I'd like to send that rainbow cake to...

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSara

OMG!! LOL!! and that rainbow cake ... who would ... why would ... *facepalm*

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKate

Cujo: a 200 pound St Bernard with rabies that terrorizes a small town.
#7: a 20 pound cake with conjunctivitis that terroizes birthday celebration.

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjackwire

Sad deer, baby-poo-faced alien elf, dog cake for animal abusers... But what the heck is up with that pink runny-black-spot thing? What *is* that? At first I thought that green thing was a palm tree on top, 'cause that would make so much sense, but it's not, so now I'm even more confused.

Loved the Princess Bride quotes yesterday and the homage to the Sound of Music here, but I agree with herding.cats... Monty Python tomorrow would be epic!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPFlamingo

We had a cake similar to the rainbow one when a friend/co-worker left for another job. He thought it was hilarious!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNichole

Oy! Poor Herschel!

"You're Dead to us now, we hope you fail." That's horrible! That sentence has incorrect capitalization and a comma splice! What is wrong with people?

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterpikkewyntjie

#1: Wow, poor Hershel....he was born deformed, then he was mutilated, then they put him on a cake.

#3: Looks like Steve stayed too long in the spray-tan booth getting ready for "vacay" in the Bermuda triangle. (that's where they go for the Boreal Elf Labor Union's contractually mandated Jan-Nov "off-season"...elves aren't nearly as industrious as they'd have you believe)

#5: Judging by its smile & enlarged heart, this is a male (or drone) bee, which has died shortly after mating.

#7 Must be a road-kill pooch, seems the ravens have already picked out it's eyes. The empty-socket effect is more disturbing than the lolling-tongue effect, and is the frosting on that cake.....meringue? Blasphemy!

#8 Well the face is pretty realistic, but the stick body is inexcusable.

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNerfbomb

AGREED!!! I'm thirding the motion...
monty...monty...Monty...Monty...MONTY...MONTY...MONTY... ok, now everyone chant with me....Monty Python, Monty Python.................

OMG this was wonderful, two sing alongs I actually KNOW the total rhythm/music to!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterVaBeach alemaP

The "Rays above picture" one really made me laugh. All it's missing is some manta rays swimming above the picture to make it an even wreckier wreck.

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

My son, Herschel, (means Deer in Hebrew), wanted a deer for his Bar Mitzvah cake. The bakery assured us it could handle it (they did a terrific job on other cakes for us in the past). Although his cake was something of a delicious failure (oh, yes, it was yummy!), we got more laughs out of it than we would have admired it were it done nicely! This photo was taken shortly before the poor deer lost his head. Rather spectacularly!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

Sometimes I wish we could click "like" on individual comments, sort of like on facebook. If I could, I would "like" SuBee and Mel's comments today!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

But but but...it's a deer named HERSCHEL! What could be cooler than THAT!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterabudoggie

I sang all the way through this!!!! I loved it!!
Had a horrible, rotten,no good day; and I needed this
So bad!!! As usual my drug of choice... Cake wrecks.... Lmao!!
On a side note, glad my Sound of Music viewing finally
Came in handy!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCamille

Does anybody else think the Nicki Minaj cake looks just like one of the Bubble Guppies?!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBecki

@ PFlamingo - I *think* it's meant to be a strawberry. Took me a while, though!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKMC

Why, why, why have I never had anything remotely resembling a wreck from the bakers at Wegman's? My life will NEVER be complete! ;(

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJo

I think the rainbow cake is pretty, but it does have a comma splice...

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterA. Nony Moose

@SuBee and @Mel are some of my favorite things! I sang, and oh, how I sang and then I laughed and oh how I snorted!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCBushLite

Cake wreck team and @SueBee thanks for the singalong. Well done!
I want the "you're dead to me cake". Almost good enough for a Sunday Sweets.

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSam

@Becki: It did rather remind me of Molly, yes...

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAlenxa

Did nobody else catch the Star Wars reference in the title?! Love it!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKris10

I love that they couldn't be bothered to change the tip on the icing bag for the green stripe in the rainbow cake!

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAlan

@MovieMom, @Maureen, @Amy: thank you…. :-)

June 19, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

Poor deer what did it do to deserve a fate like that? Lol. That rainbow cake is beautiful even if the sentiment is not. Would love to know what it means. Unless it is for someone taking a new job else where lol.

June 20, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

@CBushLite: thank you! singing and snorting...life doesn't get much better... :-)

June 20, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

Bwahaha! My guess is the rainbow cake is for a co-worker leaving a company. I've heard people at my workplace express similar half-joking sentiments when someone we like finds another job.

As for the Hershel deer - anyone else getting Walking Dead vibes? Colleen, I'm glad to hear everyone got enjoyment out of the wreck, and I kind of want to see a post-decapitation pic.

June 20, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterShanti

Aaand now I have The Sound of Music stuck in my head... Thanks for the laughs, as always - I needed that!

June 20, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

YIKES

June 21, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterStoich91

Wow! Did no one else notice the knife at the base of the decapitated dog cake?? TERRIFYING!!

Loved the rainbow cake, though! :)

June 22, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

Really funny.
