What's a Wreck?
A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

So, are we all awestruck by how awful the awesomely awkward spelling and grammar is that we see awfully often on this site?

This is ironically funny to me, because one of my big pet peeves right now is people writing "awe" in response to something cute instead of "aww"!

Jen, thanks for the Princess Bride reference. Every day is better with a Princess Bride reference. (But every day is best when it includes a picture of my movie boyfriend, Cary Elwes!!) (But a mere Princess Bride reference is still pretty darned good!)

One of my children used to spell everything phonetically. She still does occasionally. I should tell her to apply for a job as a cake decorator!

Well, if the first one were made better, I might think it was baked around here where I live - Auburn University. It's not uncommon at all to see things printed with "AUsome" on them. But that poor thing is so pitiful it's obvious it's just a wreck.
No one is commenting on the "awsome melons"? I can't figure out if that means they're adorable or just not awe-inspiring.

And the cherry on this misspelled sundae is that the first and fourth cakes have the wrong form of "you're." *Heavy sigh*.
Love Cake Wrecks! Love the commentary! It stuns me that there are so many misspellings (did I spell that correctly?) on professionally baked cakes.

for years I tried to find it out, but even after watching those cakes I don't know the exact meanig of the aw(e)- words. I'm Swiss and never dare to use one of them...

I love the last one! Blue frosting stating that "everything is awssome" will definitely detract from the fact that the cake(?) certainly isn't!

Cake #3 would have been an even awesomer wreck if the baker had taken the inscription literally and written "Congrats" on the recipient's "awsome melons" rather than on the cake itself... Don't you agree?
These cakes invite one to imagine the Annual Wreckerator Spelling Bee:
Pronouncer (P): "Your word is "AWSSOME."
Contestant (C): "Could you please define the word?"
P: "Inspiring aw."
C: "Can you tell me the word's language of origin?"
P: "Yes. It comes from the Ancient Phonetic."
C: "Could you please use the word in a sentence?"
P: "'When you awssome, you make an awss o' me.'"
C: "Okay, here goes... AWSSOME -- A-W-E-S-O-M-E -- AWSSOME.
P: "I'm sorry, but that is incorrect. You have been eliminated. On your way out, feel free to help yourself from our magnificent display, which spells out the entire alphabet in cupcakes. Just be careful to remove the plastic flotsam before eating.

I read cake one as "you're handsome.," but with a British accent. Then I scrolled down and found out it was merely awesome. The last cake is anything but awesome looking, but with chocolate, whipped stuff and gooeyness, it can't be all bad.
Lol. At least the word wasn't inconceivable.. or I really would be dying of laughter. I can only imagine what they would do to that word. Man how on earth do these things escape their notice and go out to customers?? Wow.
Honest truth: our local signwriter is called "Awsome Signs". I heard a rumour that the office of business registration made a typo and they have to either keep the misspelled name or pay a heap of money for an official change of name. Sounds like a job for a kwolifiyd loyar to me. But at least it's easy to get a cake for the office party!
(The name has been unchanged for at least 10 years, so either the bogans around here don't know it's spelled wrong and the signwriters don't care, or business isn't going strongly enough to pay for the change.)

@VaBeach alemaP: Heh. That was me and my sister, too (except I was into G.I. Joes). Sister had to beg me to play Barbies with her. When I would finally agree, I would be Ken, pick Barbie up for a date, and ditch Barbie somewhere in the middle of said date; the tires of Barbie's pink convertible squealing as Ken peeled away.
