What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

And Now, Your Labor Day Moment Of Zen

Thanks Sarah F. for understanding that john and Jen had a long day at Dragon Con and might not have technically had a post "ready" for Labor Day. Also, john and Jen are very sleepy because it is 3 am. Also, john likes talking about john in the third person.

Happy Labor Day, everyone! Unless you're not American! In which case... woohoo Monday.

Editor's note- Apparently, it's Labour Day in Canada, too but they spell it funny so I'm not sure it counts. :)

Nice to see you push a post out for us. :D Means we don't need to give you a wide berth on pubic holidays. Thanks!

Happy Labor Day!

Uh, John? I can't speak for everyone, but I, personally, would like to think that most of us REALLY would've understood if you'd/"he'd" just taken the day off...I'm not saying that we don't appreciate the trouble you/"he" went to in order to give us this "Zen belly" (?) offering, because ...I'm sure someone does/might....! Rest up! We'll probably still be here when you/he gets back to normal/reality.... =^e.e^=

It's, it's smiling at me...

Why does john spell john with a lower case letter. Does john think john isn't important. I think john should spell john as John.

*checks to make sure john is spelled right, as she is no longer certain after typing it so many times.*

John.

[Editor's note- Once upon a time, long long ago, Jen started a blog. Her husband, John, totally dug the fact that people liked what she did and, though he wanted to help, he wanted to make sure people knew that SHE was the mind behind the blog. And so, as a sign of his affection and support, he began to sign his name as john (the hubby of Jen), always using lower case on his name. And john was pleased to be a part of something special. -john (the hubby of Jen)]

We have LaboUr Day in Canada, too :) John should enjoy his day with Jen.

Love the title! Reminded me that tomorrow JON STEWART IS BACK! YAY!!!

The cake is freaky though....

I'm impressed, SuBee. I can't get it to smile at me. Must be all the blue fluffy things in its eyes.

I know exactly what you mean, Gossamer. I first ran across the phenomenon searching for the word "blue" in the library online catalog (I'm old enough that my high school only had a card catalog, so the ability to use a computer to look for something was a bit of a novelty). After scrolling through pages and pages of "blue", it started to look wrong. Kind of a bizarre mental trick.

Do we, by chance, know if Aimei is spelled correctly? I mean, the balloon tucked in the underwear is bad enough...

She's built like a block,
with basketball halves up front.
Fuzzy, fuzzy bra.

I didn't even know that there WERE white pumpkins out there. I found a nice picture of one in Gurney's seed catalog, and it's all carved & smiling away....It looks really weird! AND kind of pretty! So, pretty weird.

Gossamer: I was thinking the same thing.

Happy Labor Day to all!

Where are the women who have perfectly round, basketball pregnancy bellies? These cakes always show that, this one more than others, yet I didn't have one nor have ever seen one. Usually the woman is sort of pear-shaped. Have YOU?

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

I for one salute our new pregnant transvestite voldemort overlords.

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterkhereva

It's too bad so much labor went into making such a weird, ugly cake.

I mean, who can keep their underwear on their body when the underwear is 2 inches bigger than your body on each side?

I apprecitate your humility, john, in light of your wife's great works. I also appreciate YOUR contributions as well!

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

@SaraCVT; I remember seeing a huge pregnancy when I was only a kid; it looked as if the woman had a watermelon in there, pointing outward. It terrified me, because I had no idea how they came out, but I imagined that it could be horrible (or impossible!)....and it sure can be horrible. Good thing they're worth it! ;-)

Well, that's . . . festive? And very blue. And why does the belly look like someone decided "Eh,let's just plunk this half of a soccer ball in the middle"?

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterE. Anne

This makes me giggle, I was born on Labor Day ~=o)

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterRose

i like, how we ( collectively as a group ) have gotten to the level in our " relationship" where we understand each other with out saying a word. Thanks (john - husband of Jen ).

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDiana C

I was thinking more e.e.cummings for "john (the hubby of Jen)" than anything else. :)

In other news - those panties!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY are they so much bigger than the belly? WHY does the cake have an hourglass figure? Did the wreckorator only have one of those soccer ball cake molds? :P

Labour is spelt correctly here in Australia too!

"Apparently, it's Labour Day in Canada, too but they spell it funny so I'm not sure it counts." Bahaha.

As an Aussie I love US holidays. It means I have less work.

Whatever it is, it appears to be hatching.

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBrooke

Happy Labour Day, indeed. From Canada with the "correct" spelling! :D

I noticed that the boobs are almost as big as the pregnancy bump! Doesn't seem right to me.

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersamatwitch

@ anony mouse: "WHY...? WHY...? Did...?" etc.- Here's what I think, for what it's worth (which-trust me- isn't much): Maybe it looks the way it looks because the baker/wreckorator was simply doing the best job that he/she possibly could with a request for something that is RIDICULOUS to begin with! Poor baker/wreckorator; he or she should demand a raise!
=^o.O^= ?

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Oh my. I think something is trying to claw its way out of the stomach.

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

you just know there's a plastic baby in that belly...

September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBec

I am frightened that cake is about to give birth to the world's largest fire alarm lol. Sheesh. Scary and hilarious at the same time.

September 3, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Poor Aimeè: that looks like a really nasty skin conditiion on her thighs (and anyway, when it has an accent, isn't it usually Aimèe, not Aimeè?).

September 3, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterhyphen8

*peers at cake* That's a belly you say? A human belly? I thought it was a pile of mould covered oranges at first.

If that is supposed to represent the ever popular 'headless, dismembered pregnant torso' concept then I must say: forget her underwear, why are her thighs so massive?

September 3, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterEmma

Ha John, very funny! We Canadians just never dropped the "U" from our words the way you Americans did. In fact the proper English way to spell Labour is WITH the "U". American's dropped the "U" from all sorts of words: Armour, Colour, Labour etc.

Looks like if either isn't counting it is yours. ;-)

September 3, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJoelle

Yay!
Always so exciting to see a photo i've sent in end up on cakewrecks!!
You're welcome! :D
Happy Labor Day from China... its just another Monday over here.

Labo(u)r Day a la U2
"With or without 'u'?
I can spellit, with or with-ou-out 'u'!"

Dear John(thoJ): Yes, it is Jen's blog and she is the heart of it, but it sure wouldn't be the same without the hubby of Jen! Cheers!

The "belly" looks more like the warning bell in the hallway when I was a kid at school...only they were silver. Or a very large umbilical hernia. Or any number of things completely unlike a pregnant belly.
