What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

What on earth, who would eat that?!

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

What is that on his forehead?!? The scar wasn't a connect-the-dots!! @_@

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commenteranony mouse

Kinkini??!!

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterThe Former CB

Forget the cake. I'm changing my name to Kinkini!

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Okay, now it's official.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKinkiniBee

Well, now...
It appears that little Master Potter and Lord Holdthefort have finally managed to have a "meeting of the minds" -for the good of humanity (of course)... and this is the result.
Presenting (Dut-dut-du-DAAA!) The Creature From The Gray Lagoon~~YOUR new nightmare, and MY good friend: Kinky Knee, the "Boy-Who-Wears-His-Specs-As-Ear-Piercings"!!! *applause* (?)
*Friend me on kneebook! Get all of YOUR friends to get spec-ear-piercings!
[P.S.: Please, take that youngin' to see an ophthalmologist, asap! It's not right when one pupil is bigger than the other! It could be very serious!]

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Is Kinkini a name?

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAlleyKitten

Did I miss the movie where Harry gets a lot of forehead spots? And loses his nose? I only saw the first three movies, but I did read the books, and I don't remember anything like that happening....

I understand noses are difficult, but the spots have me completely perplexed.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMuria

You're doing it wrong.
Put zit cream on the zits, not
on everyplace else.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

Obviously cake decorator knows nothing about Harry Potter story ... Or is giving an alternative ending?!?

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSuez

Why does that kid have nostrils all over his forehead?

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterkarmen M

Voldemort does look kind of psoriatic. I guess the acne triumphed over that.

Part of what makes this cake striking (regardless of the lack of lightning scar) is that the nostril holes match the acne dots. (Those are nostrils, I hope.) The acne is kind of an odd detail, since I don't recall it coming up in the books or movies. Perhaps it's supposed to inspire the birthday boy?

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJoel Polowin

Why? Just...why would you put pimples on it? I can understand the pig nose, because that could just be a matter of not drawing noses well, but why pimples? Did they mean to make the pimples in the shape of a lightening bolt? Is it a dot-to-dot? I have SO MANY QUESTIONS!!

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterNagzilla

Was this a mean-spirited attempt at a "subtle" hint for their daughter/son? Simply horrific! Although not surprising from parents mean enough to name their child Kinkini.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

Maybe all those pink dots across his forehead are just additional nostrils.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

What I want to know is who names their child "Kinkini".

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

When I first looked at the lettering on the cake, I was pleased to see they correctly spelled 'birthday'. Then I saw the name and thought this was for 'Keinikie' from 'Grease'. And I was confused.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKelley

lol haiku joy

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Kinkini is apparently an Indian name.
And if you look very closely it seems that the nose is built up with icing just a bit, so it's a little 3-dimentional. The photo was just taken at an unfortunate angle and we are looking up his nostrils.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBin

He has acne for nostrils. Alternately, he has nostrils all over his forehead.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterWill

Maybe they were attempting freckles?

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh

Huh, there's another HP that I haven't seen? I own all the books AND all the movies and I don't recall Harry having pimples OR nostrils on his forehead. Maybe my book has a Marauder's Map page that I don't know about? But what am I supposed to be looking for? Pimples or pigs??? Now I'm even more confused!!!

@SuBee er... KinKiniBee ~ You're my hero :-)

@Sharyn and Haiku Joy ~ you guys are just awesome

p.s. Why is pimply Harry wearing green eyeliner?

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

What if this is actually an attempt to recreate Kinkini's portrait and has nothing to do with Harry Potter at all? Maybe the only pan the baker had was a Harry Potter portrait pan (does Wilton make that)?

Grasping at straws here... If that's true, somebody send Kinkini some acne medicine please.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterGinger

Why is his neck spilling out over his collar?

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterElanor

This is a
Scarey Harry
Most unseemly
Flesh-toned polka dot
Kinkini

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterzoomom

Sooo... At least it's fondant-free. ***slinks offstage***

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commenteranony mouse

@Bin: Not to be picky, but the whole cake is "3-dimensional." The nose being built-up like that DOES add a new dimension of UGLY, though, I'll say that! =^>.<^=

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Maybe that's NOT supposed to be Harry Potter? Maybe that's what Kinkini looks like?

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJeneric

Meanwhile, I was busy trying to figure out why the frosting looks like cottage cheese. Unless they were going for a cottage...cheesecake.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

Harry Potter's real father wasn't Voldemort. His mum had an affair with a Gray's Monitor (a type of lizard). She ended up "in the family way", so NATURALLY her son was born part reptile. Then Mum had an affair with Harry Houdini. Harry H. adopted Harry Lizard and had him keep the name Potter, because he didn't want some freak lizard kid to carry HIS name. Anyway-cut to the chase: Kinky Wizard Mom+Houdini+Gray Lizard Kid=Kinkini.
It couldn't possibly get any simpler...

=^e.e^= (?)

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Forget about the cake....I'm trying to decide if "Kinkini" is a name of a person, a S&M bathing suit, or an alcoholic-laden something in a inverted-cone shaped glass. Given all the above are "adult", I'm having a hard time equating that a S&M-oriented person (who drinks) would be interested in a cake based on a family-oriented fiction.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterStar

I'll take an 8x10 glossy of old Voldy...he's looking particularly hot in that picture....
=^e.e^= ~(shudder)~

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Thanks @sendingtheclowns for the family tree. Totally makes sense now. (Somebody pass the Rum!)

@zoomom ~ **snort** Thanks! At least it got that Black Betty song out of my head.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJodee

Hmm... It seems that I can't spell. What is "scarey" supposed to mean? Well, if decorators can make up characters then I can make up words. So there.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterzoomom

@Star:
S&M bathing suit: Hee-hee-larious! (And yeah--they'd probably skip the books!)
=^~.~^=

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

If my nose looked like my forehead, I'm not so sure I'd have a happy birthday (or ANY day, really).

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

This was definitely from a Wilton cake pan! My mom made a Wilton Harry Potter cake for me in elementary school that had the same mold. I can assure you that her Harry looked healthier than the humanoid on this cake.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMaria

ahahhahahahahah....thanks, Jen for my laugh for the day

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentermlt

@Jodee; Sorry, Toots~ the rum has left the building...((urp))

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

My bad, and I really should know better. Kinkini is a name from the sub-continent of India. Why I should know better is my real given first name is actually Star. I am 52, and have hated hearing "Like 'Twinkle, Twinkle?' " my whole life. It was old by Kindergarten. I am also told more times than I like to hear how people have horses and dogs named "Star", but have never known a person named that. So, if you are named Kinkini, I'm sorry if I offended you. I'm USAmerican, and only have been outside the boundaries of my country for a few days in Canada, which doesn't really count, because it was not to Quebec. I really should have known better.

August 5, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterStar

@Star:
I love the stars~~my favorite is Rigel; she lives in the constellation Orion, and is its brightest. Where am I going with this? Absolutely nowhere! It's my little way of saying "Give yourself a break; tommorrow is likely to be another day. If you were to carry one grain of sand every day from one point all the way around the world and back , it would be incredibly boring...and I've put my foot in my mouth a time or too, also. It didn't taste all that great, but I lived to screw up another day-(Yay, me!) and you will too! Here, have an invisible peach:

=^-.-^= yum

August 6, 2013 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Lol. And to think I thought they ran out of ways to wreck Harry Potter cakes. I really should know better. I think they will never ever run out of ways to wreck anything. Yay to hilarious cakes.

August 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Well well... haven´t you heard about that Boil Cure Potion that Neville messed up in 1st Grade and that actually caused boils instead of healing them? Also, I seem to remember some Pimple Jinx.
Anyway, none of you seems to have noticed Harry´s wearing the bearskin cap he received when entering the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.

August 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Wow!

Tragic when more people seem to focus on the kid's name while ignoring the pathetic, holographic, look-from-one-side-only disastacake about childhood acne or early chicken pox symptoms.

I'd say some trite comment about Americans and their knowledge ( or lack thereof) of other cultures but I'd probably get bombarded with "OMG it's a humor site, DURHHH!" messages all the way to the EPCOT bunker.

So instead I'll go look at the sunday sweets.
Again.

P.S Kingini , a girls' name, refers to the sound of little bells or an ornament that makes said sound. And yeah it's from India.

August 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterShar

Y'know, context is everything. Cause my first thought was also 'Kinkini???', making the assumption that it was one of those terrible made-up names that people occasionally (and inexplicably) give their children. Then I read the comments and felt terrible, also that Kinkini is actually a pretty and perfect word for the sound of little bells. I now choose to put all that behind me and focus solely on the horror of this cake and the likely reaction of poor Kinkini when the box was opened...

AAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! It's the Acne Monster!!!!

August 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJoan

I agree Joan. Context IS everything.
In fact, the more I think about it, Kingini is the sort of whimsical name I'd give my 2 year old--I mean who else but a child would want a HarrPo cake?
Sorry to have offended anyone. I agree with Shar : we 'mericans CAN be a little cruel to the unfamiliar.
Also a quick google search yielded the meaning. My new quest is to find out what malaylam sounds like :)

August 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterGillian

Oh no! Harry's gone and turned against the DA and now Hermoine's jinx is in the process of forming the word SNEAK across his face.

August 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJust Andrea

It’s like a cake decorator’s game of Telephone. The customer said “scar,” CD#2 interpreted that as “acne scar.” CD#3, who actually worked on the cake, just heard “acne.”

August 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMike

Hahahahaha! I love it!!
