FAB WRECKS!
August 7, 2012 After Friday's post the CW Facebook page was flooded with hilarious entries for the fabric wreck contest, along with plenty of comments pointing out, "That isn't professional," or "those really look like bed sheets." (I want to believe those people were joking, I really do.)
Of course, the best part is how most of your entries still look better than Friday's wedding wreck. In fact, they're all SO good, it was almost impossible to narrow it down to even five winners - so in addition to those five, a few of you are also winning pin packs. Hope that's Ok.
So without further ado, here are a some of my favorites, with the winners sprinkled in:
Nakeisha E. writes, "....because dismembered torso cakes with edible undies are so two weeks ago."
And the paper beside it reads, "Its a Gril (in pink)." Hee. This is John's favorite (shocking!), so Nakeisha, you win a book.
Wendy A. writes, "Greedo and 'Sandy' request your presence on the planet Alderaan to witness their union of love, in anticipation of the Empire legalizing multi-species marriage. Grand Moff Tarkin has given us his personal blessing."

Kelly P. wins a book for the best entry title:

Crystal A. wins a book for making me laugh the hardest with her entry:
She writes, "I used canvas so it would be more 'durable.' We all know what can happen when you're transporting a cake. And why cut the ribbon? Just wind it around and use the spool as a topper. I call it 'Shaken, Not Spooled.'"

She used felt circles over mashed potatoes, too, making her entry almost as tasty as a real cupcake cake. [smirk]

Thanks for the fun challenge! I loved playing along. Granted punked out bitty baby will never be the same. And to the posters on Facebook that asked who would have a fabric carrot? Who wouldn't?! You never know when you might need a fabric carrot to warp your daughter's childhood memories ;)
How long before a "real" cake decorator thinks of Sharyn's idea for sprinkles in the container and considers it a good idea?

Crystal A., your's is my favorite. It's simple and elegant, not to mention reusable.
Betsy A., you have created the perfect wedding "cake." I just love the way that princess dominates the cake-that prince is just there as an afterthought.
I don't have a facebook page, but I was thinking of giving in and setting one up (thus assuring facebook's demise,) but after reading some of the comments there, I think I'll stay away. They made me shake my head and sigh...
My son (who helped me pick my theme) and I are so excited to be chosen as one of the winners! It was so much fun to do and I loved all the other "cakes".

I have to admit, though, what made me laugh the hardest were the comments about how "that looks like fabric" or "this isn't even a real cake" ...
I HAVE THOSE LITTLE MERMAID SHEETS!!! As in, it is very possible that they are on my bed right now... Or maybe it's the Toy Story ones. Did I mention I'm a teenage girl?

Aw, shucks. Thanks so much! We're visiting family this week, and you've just done wonders for my geek cred. We spent some time today browsing the archives. The No Sexual Harassment cake just about killed my Mom (Laughter-induced asphyxia -- she's fine, now. She just scared the cats.)

THESE ARE AWESOME! The ones meant to be funny are SUPER HILARIOUS, and the nice ones are FAB! I want to eat crow! oh wait... that came out wrong.... I mean, I want to eat that Steampunk Crow cake!
Side note for Jen: so.... you know how I've declared you my "virtual soulmate" and stuff? But now I'm kinda freaked out a little because apparently we are the exact same height, too. Um, not to get too personal but ARE YOU MY TWIN SISTER?
Uh-oh! This may have started something that the food "police", who hate sugar and butter, among other things, will latch onto. Ron Ben-Israel and Sylvia Weinstock may have to move outside NYC city limits, lol!
I'm surprised you didn't mention that the fabric CCC in the shape of a bear had "cubcake cake" written beside it. It deserved special mention for the pun alone!

These are fantastic and hilarious! I think you now need to request that they be replicated in actual cake. This could go on FOREVER.
Also, I got very excited when I saw Crow -- I want a Crow! And a Tom Servo! Seriously, where did Melissa S. get Crow? He looks like the real deal.

absolutely fantastic...and funny!! good work, all! and Sharyn -- that's a brilliant idea with the sprinkles...so much easier than picking them off and then rinsing them clean and blow-drying them while trying to keep them from flying all over the place....
