What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Good Lord. They couldn't even get one word spelled right???? And I thought I wasn't good at spelling. I should enter a spelling bee with this wrecker!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBecky

Reading that post was like one of those "tests" where the letters are correct, but in the wrong order. Great job!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJen B

Imagin theirs no spellng,
It iznt hart too due.
No nead to yuse the spel czech,

(My spell checker just wet itself.)

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

I would have had to have someone else type that for me. I couldn't purposely misspell like that. You'd think bakers would at least have to be out of grade school, unless they've lowered the age for working children???

Good job as always!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine J

my first thought was why in the heck would kids need to learn how to aRchive o-O ... silly me

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Ouch! My eyes! They burrrrrrnnnnnn!!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMe

Ouch! That WAS really painful - my eyes hurt. No joking!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDi

@SuBee: OK, that was spooky.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

I like how none of the crayons are black, but all of the "writing" mysteriously is...

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterWorrierPrincess

This cake is horrid.
I weep for humanity.
Idiocracy.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

This is just too sad to be funny. I'm going back to bed.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBetty Martin

And what's with it all being in the upper right hand corner? Are they saving space for more horrible spellings on the rest of the cake?

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCrystal

Those squiggles are the letters who didn't make it into the correct words writhing in pain.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAudax

...do I have to eat the crayons too???

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPenny

...just had another thought - is 'achive' the noise a bee makes when it sneezes? Bless you!!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPenny

Brain broke from the idiocy O_o D: Sharyn heehee your spell check must have been going WTF

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Yay! It's a CAPTCHA cake! Input the letters correctly to get a slice.
Oh, you thought they were supposed to be real words? No cake for you.

@Sharyn - you amaze me

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCybrczch

What's scary is that someone stood back once they'd finished that and said to themselves 'Yes, that looks great!'
In the news in the UK yesterday was a story about getting rid of 'Mickey Mouse' qualifications in school such as Cake Decorating....I'm thinking it should be made compulsory!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCaroline B

"My spell checker just wet itself"
LOL!!! What a way with words you have. Almost as good as Jen and John. And that is really hard to do.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

Oh my!!! Words fail me (and apparently the wreckerator, too). :P

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commenteranony mouse

I have seen all the mistakes in Jen's post, some at the hand of the upper managers at work. I can't tell you how many times I've seen aisle written as isle. So Gilligan lives here? And the random non-essential capitalization made me laugh. People do that, too, or just write in all caps for no reason.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdoodlebug

Oh, good grief. "Back to school, so you can learn how to spell and correct these mistakes before you can eat the cake." Only practical application I can think of...

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

SuBee and Sharyn, that's funny that you both chose the same song. I really thought you were taking it away, Sharyn, especially when you both used the same first line and referenced the spell czech. Talk about being on the same wavelength!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commenternormajean

@SuBee and Sharyn: I was thinking the same song! I imagin many of us did.

@Audax and Cybrczch: Hee!

My brain tried reaaaally hard to make sense of this cake. It came up with an assignment/test: "Imagine (with the 'e' hiding behind the blue Crayons) & Draw A chive". Once you correctly draw a chive, you get a slice of cake! (Yes, I know that's not even close to Draw, but my brain would not accept Draem).

@WorrierPrincess: I thought the same thing.

Even with all the words spelled correctly, that is the most unimaginative, uninspiring, depressing cake ever. I bet Charlie Brown would buy that cake. I'm just waiting for Linus to wrap his blue blanket around it and the rest of the gang to put Snoopy's decorations on it to make it beautiful.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

Sharyn & SuBee, you make me happy on so many nerdy levels. :o) (Jen & John, you do too.)

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterErin S.

Wow....just....wow.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh

Agggggh! I'm thinking English is probably not their first language... or they are three years old. So sad!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJenn

I just had a seizure. And then a hernia from laughing at Sharyn and Sue Bee. Cake wrecks is hazardous to my health... One of these days the drink that I choke on will be the end of me...

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKarenK

@Sharyn, brilliant as usual. I was singing along in my head whilst trying not to cry from laughing. You amaze me :-)

As for this cake...I have no words. Where do they find these people?? *GROAN*

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTiffany

omigosh, my brain hurts! I had to read this soooo sloooowwwwllllyyy because my brain just would not accept these spellings

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEliabeth

I'm relieved (?) you spelled it out, Jen, because I can usually figure out what the wreckerator was going for, horrible as it is. (I'm fairly good at puzzles, and some of these are REALLY good ones.) But this one defied me, and stuck out its misspelled tongue at me. How do you look at this cake and say, "Yeah, that's a good one", anyway?

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

Imagine what dreams this person could achieve if they had an actual education. My question is, do these bakeries have managers? Can THEY spell? Also, why are the two blue crayons apparently mating? Why would this be in a display case?? Why, why? *wanders off muttering*

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRPainter

Achive- when you have hives and are sneezing at the same time.

...happened to me all the time in school. Particularly before the dreaded gym class!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterIsabella

This cake me laugh, the commentary made me laugh even harder. Then Sharyn came along and once I stopped convulsing with laughter, I had to go change my wet wants. Thanks, Sharyn.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLis

Ermmm... I feel like we've seen this cake before... No? Maybe I was a wreckerator in a past life? Either way, hilarious as per usual. :)

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

is it any wonder why I get a headache from banging my head on my desk?!?! SIGH

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSueP

Unfortunately I was able to read this without much difficulty. My oldest has a form of dyslexia and for years she just spelled things the way they sounded. Still does sometimes. I've become a fairly decent speller (usually) because I'm always being asked "Mom, how do you spell..." I have yet to convince either of my children that DRAW doesn't have an "L" in it!!!
However, that being said, Sharyn's song still hurt my brain. Funny in a sad sad way. And your spell checker isn't the only one who wet itself O_O

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJodee in WA

Thank you for translating. I got the first and last words, but my brain got stuck over "draem".
I want to blame to random crayons. It isn't really an excuse but I think I will anyway.
It was the random crayons.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAntonia

I am a screaming grammar nazi. So this was pretty much my response:

*weeps some more*

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDenita TwoDragons

The first thing I read as the picture loaded was "I am a Dragon Archive". ?!? Need to clean my glasses.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlisa

"Becuz if U ken draem it, somune ells ken screw it up."--that is HILARIOUS!
And so is- "my spell checker just wet itself"!

Jen and Sharyn, let's take this act on the road! Loved this...laughed until I cried!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBonnie

Wow Sharon, that had me giggling at work this morning! Brilliant... and sad... awesome combination. Thank you!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMC from NZ

@SuBee and Sharyn -- good work! I knew you could duet....!

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermel

As a teacher, my heart weeps for the future.
Wow.... Not even one word correct. Thats got to be a wrecky record.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTeacher

Just finished 3 nonstop hours of editing. Have about 3 or 4 more hours to go tonight.

I have edited documents that have 25+ contributors or more. And never, ever have I seen anything so terrible, spellcheck or no.

Did somebody really buy this? I would buy this and take it to a school or preschool so they could have a spelling bee, and the winner would get to eat the cake or smash all the mistakes.

August 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

SuBee and Sharyn, it has long been known that women who share close quarters will experience a sychronization of their cycles; it seems that you have demonstrated what happens when we regularly enjoy the same blog. I think this phenomena requires a name. Perhaps "Sychronous Parodization"?
