What's a Wreck?
A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Perhaps they meant "geriatric."
at least they got sprinkles...but did they want sprinkles? is that generic enough? and what about the balloons and ribbons? those colors are for a specific taste- I personally don't like pastels so the ribbons appeal to me but the balloons don't- FAIL!! it's just not generic enough.
And yet I feel unique, since it is my birthday. Irony! Delightful irony!
At least they spelled it right. :) Don't they get points for that?
....and Amie means "loved."
Or it could just mean "liked...."
What's the French for "tolerated"? Maybe, "existence acknowledged"?
If they're using the French word for friend -- amie -- it's even better.

I thought generic brands were black & white...is it unique now that it has some color?
At least it isn't "Generic Happy Birthday [Your Name Here]"
This reminds me of a play we did in elementary school. The teacher added an extra role and temporarily titled it "Generic". Being a rather dull group of kids who didn't know what the word meant we voted to leave it as the character's name. Thus, my sister played the role of "Generic", the girl you've never heard of in Swiss Family Robinson.
I believe this signals the beginning of the inevitable backlash against the era of unique children.
For years we’ve been told ,“Every child is exceptional,“ “Everyone’s a winner,” “Of course you deserve that perfect attendance medal, Billy! You only missed six days of school!!” Well it’s about time we go back to the good old days when no one was special. NO ONE, I TELL YOU.
We all deserve a generic happy birthday; nothing more and nothing less.
I look forward to the first generic wedding cake.

There's nothing like being made to feel special....and this was nothing like being made to feel special!
I had something similar happen when I helped write my mom's funeral program. I had verbally sketched things out, with things like "sappy song" and "family tear-jerker stories". The church (and my slightly clueless dad) left all that in for the final printing, even after proper text was supplied. Maybe they were trying to lighten the mood. It's been 16 years and I still cringe at the memory.

A truly generic cake should be gender-neutral. Therefore, the writing and the border should have been gray.

Cursed with a name like Mary Smith, I am always telling people my middle name is Generic. Maybe this is my cake and I am so generic they forgot to tell me??!!

People write in all the time saying they chuckle, giggle, and snort coffee all over their monitors, but I don't usually laugh audibly. This post made me laugh out loud in a crowded restaurant. Sorry, Amie.
Even if the baker didn't think you were unique enough for a non-"Generic" birthday cake, WE think you're unique, Amie!
I often check your blog for inspiration (Sunday Sweets) and "what not to do" on my cakes .. instead, I get a heck of a good laugh and end up spending my whole lunch hour (and more!) reading up on old posts and hoping none of my work end up on your site! hehehe ...

Well, (insert name her), I know this has been a special year. A year full of things happening. Remember that time, when the funny thing happened? Oh, how we laughed. Of course, itc's not all balloons and sprinkles, we've had sad times too. Which I won't go into right now because of privacy. All in all, I just want to sum up our relationship with this cake, especially for you. And not for anyone else. See? It has your name on, *checks cake* Amie!

My Amie would have gotten a kick out of this cake. I know this because she sent me this link! But at the end of the day, after laughing at the cake....she would be pleased that the spelling of her name was correct! and that it wasnt spelled Arnie or Annie or Amy or Amiee!
