What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Toadally

Thanks to Faith H., who feels like she's being judged.

I can't decide if it would better or worse if the frog was smiling, because then we'd all be commenting about the scary serial killer frog cake. Those are some *disapproving* eyes.

Doesn't look disapproving to me.

Is the whole frog made out of icing? Yuck.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBy the Bye

He may be disapproving, but he's cute!! I love it! :-)

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkathy

Is that cake on carpet??? Who puts a cake on the floor to take a picture of it???

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

A bonus Saturday wreck. woohoo. The cake is toadily cute and the post is toadily hilarious. Don't worry from now on I'll leaving the punning up to you.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBrooke

I think that's a marble counter-top, rather than carpet.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJasini

Aww! He's actually kind of cute :) I really like the colour scheme too!

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKim

I collect frogs (and toads) and I have one much like that. He has his arms crossed and his back turned to the rest, refusing to look at anybody else. He is a most grumpy amphibian.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

It's true! And I LOVE that it's in de-motivational poster form!

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterzombiekim

If only there were quotes around happy -the the frog's disdain for Randy would be maximized.
On the other hand - the cattails and flower petals are awesome.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSiouxzR

Randy loves Froggy. Does Froggy love Randy? *squeak squeak* Oh. :-(

@By the Bye: I'm pretty sure the frog's body is an inverted cupcake. The head would have to be made of something with more structural integrity than icing in order to stay on (the only thing worse than a disapproving frog is a disembodied disapproving frog head). Marshmallow, perhaps?

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterNaomi

Randy would defend himself, but he has a frog in his throat.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

my dog looks up at me like that when I'm eating something and not sharing it...just thought it was grumpy but now I'm worried he's homicidal!

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

I don't think the whole frog is frosting. It looks kinda like the stand up teddy bear Wilton pan.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterEm

I have been tainted by cake wreaks. Now when I see birthday spelled correctly it just doesn't seem quite right.

P.S. I hope Randy had frog legs for his birthday meal!

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMiriam G

Well, we all now it's not easy being green.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterChristy

That toadally cracked me up. :D
Seriously, I'm giggling like mad here...

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

Putting this in demotivational poster format was pure genius. I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything, because it would have been on my screen . . .

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterWillow

Oh! Thanks for the good laugh!!!

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmber

Ohhh, so close and yet so far!

This froggie is so cute! Too bad he's grumpy/ Really, the decorator was THIS CLOSE to having a 'not-wrecky' cake!

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

I feel a meme needs to be started here bwahaha

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJabby

All ready for your new Mixed Messages category! This can go with the DOA wedding cake, the "we (never) doubted you" cake, etc.

Way to mix up the format a little. I laughed out loud, alarming one cat (the other one continues snoring).

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSickleYield

I'm imagining this all lit up with happy, glowing birthday candles and it's even better!

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkaybee

Perhaps the frog is merely sad because he's about to be dismembered and eaten?

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterOldish Lady

...gotta love how he's sat right in the middle so everybody gets a piece of cake with frog butt on it!

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterslartibartfast42

That's amusing! I like it. I'll use it for birthday messages.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered Commentershikiblade

Is it just me, or do the shape of the eyes and head look more alien than frog?
It's a pitty, 'cause if the frog wasn't so grumpy it would be a really cute cake.

I love the poster look.

September 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKatiKat

Two words refrigerator magnet.

September 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJen G

This cake is awesome! That little guy can disapprove of my birthday any year!

September 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterElizabeth

Too bad, that cake had potential. That is one grumpy cake

September 4, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Beautiful, beautiful cakes!

BTW - My favorite is peanut butter and butter, too - On fresh chewy white bread!

September 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDebbie S

Well, deja vu. I just got home from church, where I work in the nursery with kids 18 months to 3 years old. Sometimes, when I'm trying to engage one of them, they stand there, looking at me just. like. this.

September 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMaura

For those wondering if it's solid icing or a cupcake or what, it's the Wilton mini stand-up bear pan. I just made a few of those for some kids to decorate earlier this week. You can see the shape of the arms under the icing.

Here's a link to the pan so you can see: http://www.wilton.com/shapedpan/Mini-Stand-Up-Bear-Pan

Could have been so cute if they hadn't made it sad!

September 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKimberly Chapman

Aw I think this frog is cute even if he will put a curse on you if you try and eat this cake lol. Adorable.

September 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

I can't say the maker should be frogmarched out of town because this cake is fairly well done. Well, apart from the whole homicidal amphibian thing.

You really got the jump on this one, John.

September 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

Poor frog. It's not easy being green.

September 6, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBoon

All I can say is that the frog must be British.

September 6, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterIsabella

What?? No comments about a "Hoppy" Birthday??

September 7, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRobyn

My two-year-old saw this on my screen and got rather worried. She said, "Froggy crying!" Seriously unhappy frog.

Is it just me...if you look closely...does it look like the frog is giving the "bird"???? It's a well decorated cake at least, IMO.

September 16, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSara

Looks like the frog is contemplating something. Probably is wondering why Randy wants a frog on his cake.

September 18, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJackielovestobake

Of course Disapproving Frog disapproves. He is about to be horribly dissected and eaten! I would disapprove of that! P.S: Isabella, not all British people are grumpy. The Welsh, Scottish and Irish are awesome ( I am Welsh) because they are joined by Celtic heritage and England isn't so it is grumpy.
