What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Phonics Has Failed Us

No, it wasn't intentional. And Brian, I hope Bethany gets a kick out of seeing her cake here. :)

Sounds like a cute nickname for one of the Rockettes.

Not intentional? That's surprising. I'd like to meet the genius who did that.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterViewtiful_Justin

I've heard of people naming some body parts, but knees?

Well, at least the knee gets a cake.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterZhoen

Wow! I'm so impressed that the person writing this knows how to spell "KNEE". Amazing!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJen

don't you mean "phonics has phailed us"??
Heehee!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKat at Muddy's Bake Shop

Don't you mean phonics have phailed us? ;)

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCassandra

My first question was whether it was intentional! My son's friend Bethany gets called exactly that on MySpace, etc. It's cute, but now I wonder if they got it from something like this?? Just how old is this cake, Bethany? Are you friends with my "Effin"? LOL

Seriously? This is what happens when strippers turn to cake decorating.

No wait that's an insult to strippers, they're good people.

Clearly we are no longer as 'Hooked On Phonics' as we once were.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMattia

Sounds like the division of a not so common language.
Cheers

I should order a cake like that just for fun!

I always confirm spelling on names, even Jim, which I had someone spell Jym. But Beth-a-Knee...Please.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Ha ha Love this one.....!!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenternat88008

I'm SO saving this pic for my blog on my birthday!!! Never heard it said or spelled like that!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

Really? How did they mess up Bethany? Hilarious!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHorribleLicensePlates

Are you kidding me?

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJHalmes

huh?.. It wasn't intentional?

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

It could have been from anatomy class.

"Look Beth, a knee!"

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDonna

and these people have access to kitchen knives!! - scary ;)

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterweewiccababe

It's pathetic, but funny :)

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRobin

So wrong on so many levels...I would cry if my name was Bethany and I got a cake like that...who hires these these decorators and how do they keep their jobs ?

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLynn

Cute, sometimes I have wondered how the people who made these cakes made it out of High School, LOL

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmy Ellen

That is just too cute of a mistake not to like.

WV: recapp (rhymes with kneecap?)
~Amy B

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

Well, at least it doesn't say Betta-Knee.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPassion Fruit

The birthday girl's name could also be Beth-A-K who was formerly some other name (nee), but the decorator didn't finish off the inscription.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Phone-in order, huh?

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

I'm shocked they managed to spell 'Birthday'

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I don't know. Given some of the atrocities heaped on children these days in the form of names - that could actually be her real name. I've seen much worse. I think we all have.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I'll have to get my son's next birthday cake to say Toe-Knee.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

It must have been a phone order? No one would write that down on an order form!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKel

Ha! That's funny! Poor Bethany.... I hope she got a laugh out of it.

When I was pregnant, there was a woman on a message board I read who was naming her baby Quartknee. Maybe she's a cake decorator.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjennifer

My friend's cake at her bridal shower said, "Congratulations on your Showder!"

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Ah, yes. Hukt on fonicks wurkt 4 mi.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteriamtherobyn

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

My name has been spelled "Lilly, Lilli, Lillie, Lili, Lilie..." unbelievable!
This cake reminds me of every award I have...
-Lily (one 'l' and a 'y')

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLily

I actually have a cousin named Bethany, and we've nicknamed her "Beth-o-knee". That's what my dad puts on all her presents. :P

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKrystalBall

At least the speller has mastered the silent "k". As a third grade teacher...there are some that still need that...so there's a positive! ha!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAllikaye's Mama

Poor Beth-A-Knee. Someone thought a little too hard this time. lol Thanks for sharing!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer Connell

My high-school boyfriend's dad used to call me "Bethy-knees" affectionately.

At least they didn't mishear her name as "Stephanie" or "Beverly," both of which happen to me on a regular basis. When I was ten years old (long before the days of showing ID and taking your shoes off to go through airport security) I once flew with an airplane ticket that thought my name was Stephanie W******.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbethany actually

does Beth know she is a knee?

I am amazed they knew how to spell knee.

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterfuzzandfuzzlet

My daughter Bethany got a big kick out of that one!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDana

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteregyphoto

HAH! this is one of my favorites for sure! too too funny!

February 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterpeewee

That's my name, and I so want that cake.

February 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBethany

I like how three of the roses have been blurred out to protect their identity.

I can see the purchaser ordering the cake from someone who doesn't speak engrish. "write Happy Birthday Beth-A-Knee".

wv: degarra...innagoddadegarra baby don't you know that I love you.

The only problem with this cake - trooly reelly- is that hideous blue icing.
Beth-A-K nee makes me smile, but the icing.... ?

February 22, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjessamine

I sometimes write my name Stephaknee on purpose (see my handle). I can't believe someone did this by accident! Giggle!

February 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterStephakneeSays
