What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Why Suzy Needs Therapy

"Mo-ooom! Have you seen Giselle?"

"Suzy, what did I tell you about leaving your dolls lying around?"

"I don't know."

"You don't know? So you're telling me you don't remember any of the HUNDRED times I've warned you about leaving your toys strewn around the house?"

"No."

"So you don't remember what I said yesterday? About what would happen if I found your doll on the floor one more time?"

"Ummmm... Maybe you said something..."

[silence]

[whining] "But I want my dolly! You HAVE to give her BACK!"

"Oh, don't you worry, honey. I'm sure she'll turn up after dinner."

That's cold, Chad C. - real cold.

Reminds me of the snail people chapter in Uzumaki (their backs get huge and lumpy cos they're growing a shell). It also combines nicely with the 'evil babies' chapter for a cake seemingly made entirely of nightmare fuel...

Ugh...

OMG.

You know what it reminds me of? The last chapter of Beverly Cleary's Beezus and Ramona, in which Mrs Quimby is baking Beezus a birthday cake and Ramona -- who has become obsessed with the story of Hansel and Gretel -- shoves one of her dolls into the oven, pretending it's the Wicked Witch.

Except of course in that case the oven was on, and the doll melted, and the cake was wrecked. Whereas in this case --

Oh, wait. Never mind.

There's something terribly twisted about this cake and yet, I laughed.

I don't know what's funnier, the comments or that cake....
...Wait the cake definitely the cake!!!!
Funny but in a creepy sort of way.
Ya'll know what I mean?
Peace,

My three year old saw this and exclaimed in a very worried voice. . . "who is that mom?!? who is that?!?" I reply, "its a cake" he says, "but there's a baby in it!" He is very concerned!

This is bloody creepy! Eewww. I actually *can't* think of anything else to say....

January 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMari

oh gosh...creepy! It looks real!

January 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTwistedSerenity

I was having the worst day ever until I saw this. OH...MY.

January 23, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

My daughter said "It looks like a baby in an oven" 'nuff said....

January 23, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercarrie miller

nom nom nom. I always say babies are so cute I could eat them.

Is it weird that I actually kind of like this one?

January 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersweet tooth

Okay, okay, okay... What occasion is that for exactly????

January 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCindy

Freaky, freaky stuff!!!

I can understand storing a cake in a cold oven once it's been frosted, though, if you don't have a container that's big enough - most ovens are every bit as airtight as any Tupperware container. I've been known to store the occasional cake or slice for several days in the oven myself, and they've kept just as well as if they had been placed in a Tupperware container.

But a baby in the oven???
Even if it is merely a cake baby???
Creepy...

Whenever we see posters that advertise to "never shake a baby" my husband always quips, "never shake-and-bake a baby". Looks like we're too late!

WWJSS?

(What would Jonathan Swift Say?)

January 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Just think Monty Python and a whole new set of ideas comes to mind--remember the giant people-eating blanc mange? ROTFLOL

OR--what's that round reflective thing just over the baby that looks like a giant transparent eye? A baby-eating monster from outer space with a sweet tooth? (Think: "I Was a Monster From Outer Space".)

January 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

LOL. Thank you. I needed that.

January 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJen

*screaming* OMG!!!

I'm with Yanicka on this. The creepy factor just flew right off the scale.

January 27, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterShawna

hahaha. that is so disturbing, its like a partial birth of the limbs

January 29, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersolvency ii

If the turkey's in the highchair, where is the baby?

January 30, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I just almost peed my pants... pregnant women should not be allowed to read your blog our bladder control just isn't strong enough.

January 31, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercannwin

macabre sense of humor? yes, that's me. I didn't find this cake disturbing. It is hilarious! It is so cheerful and executed with such skill.

and "the hills are alive and they are eating children" and "a pregnant belly" comments made me laugh even harder. I'm at work, hissing through my teeth, wiping my eyes, and semi-cackling mostly under my breath. I'm trying to be quiet! I'm trying... I feel a snort...

and I can just see a maniacal baker in the back with a gigantic chef knife chopping the baby doll into bits... so funny. Thank you all for the blog and comments

Hey, can you please reply with your e-mail address because I don't know it and I want to e-mail you some pictures of cakes that are horrible!

February 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJessica*

I think i'm the only one to say this so far.. i've read the page of comments.

So, who wants to see this cake made out of red velvet cake? *raises hand*

February 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKatrina

Ohhh no. Babys in ovens. Who would even CONSIDER eating that??

June 3, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJenny

Is this trying to suggest that there's another baby on the way, i.e., "one in the oven?"

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKeydet Piper

OMG, people. Sure, this is kinda weird but nightmares? seriously disturbing? scariest thing you've ever seen? It's a cake with a doll stuck in it, fer crying out loud. I'd hate to see how you'd react to things that are TRULY disturbing and shocking. Get some perspective.

July 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

*shudder*

August 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I just had to add that I've discovered your site yesterday and I am totally in love. My four-year-old wandered by just as I got to this cake and offered this, "That baby has a big diaper," which is code in our house for "needs a change." It was so perfect, I had to share.

September 20, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterliz

O.O where can I buy one of these?!

October 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I would eat that cake. Cakes are starting to eat babies, soon they'll be up to full-grown adults. It's us or them, people.

October 30, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTrishL

OM MY GOD ITS THE BLOB!!!!!!!!!

July 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTash

Oh. My. God. My jaw is on the ground. Hilarious and...disturbing...all in one. xx

October 13, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCupcakes Lady

You know.. I have that same baby doll. It looks better here though...

January 8, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAvengersWasp

All I can think of is that some little girl is going to beg for that as her birthday cake thinking she'll get a free doll out of the deal and be disappointed by the fact that they probably just bought the head and extremities and stuck them in. (You can get it at craft stores)

January 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPersephone

that's scary!

April 19, 2012 | Unregistered Commenternita

OK, yeah, a couple of years ago that would've creeped me out, but now, after looking at Cakewrecks for a while, I just think it looks cute... and well done...

April 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLindarella

My mum actually loves this cake. She sent me a link to it a while back when I was making a Christening cake and suggested I do one like it! I think it looks like something from a Killer Doll horror movie or tv show. Anyone who still has nightmares from watching Tottie: A Dolls' House, as a kid in the 80s will know what I mean!

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEve

WHAT THE...what the heck did they do to it!!!! I will never look at dolls again! And that says something because I am caught up on Doctor Who...[creepy doll episode=NOT good dreams]OK. now I have images, and they are not fun.

April 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSPHYNX LOVER

i don't see why everyone is freaking out so much. this cake is AWESOME! and it's way less creepy than the baby cakes that look incredibly realistic but don't have a comedic element to them.
