What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Hey, Sole Sister

Remember how your mom was always telling you to get your feet off the coffee table?

That goes double for your wedding cake.

Thanks to Jamie A., who's just as confused as I am.

Um... well... there is an old time Southern saying about "Take your shoes off and stay a while". That's the best I have.... or maybe they specifically asked to have a wreck in honour of the site? I did that for my sweety's birthday. (aaaannnnddd we were drunk when we ordered the cake so it was even funnier)

My sister-in-law has a severe foot phobia and I can promise you next March she is getting a foot birthday cake. Preferably one with toe jam and fungus. It's gonna be great....and more than a little traumatizing.

Maybe it has to do with the following poem:One night I had a dream-
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord and across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonged to me and the other to the Lord. When the alst scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that many times along the past of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life. This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it. 'Lord, you said that once i decided to forllow you, you would walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.' The Lord replied, 'My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trial and suffering. When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that i carried you'."

Whoops -- point taken, John.

@Katrina, you meant 'country song, right? ;-)

Do we know for sure it's for a wedding? Perhaps it's a baby shower, and it's supposed to be tiny feet. :)

Looks like feet on snow? Cold feet?

For the love of cake wrecks with feet on them - where is Sharyn?

May 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterFsurica

No more cold feet...because we chopped them off?

My guess is graduation cake. The setting and plates around the cake are informal, and black which is a fairly common graduation party color. So I'm thinking, it's sort of an "on the edge" of life cake? Graduating from school and being on the edge of the great dive into the adult, real world?

I hope everyone found it just as amusing in-context as we find it here. =P

The thrill of wreckery, the agony of deux feet.

May 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Looks like feet in the sand. I actually like this one a lot.. since my toes in the sand is by far the happiest place on earth. But feet on the side of a cake is a little bit odd.. but hey if people can eat cakes that look like dead babies, why not?

May 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAngieG

It's feet on a concrete wall. With a little grass as if coming thru the cracks. It's the grooms feet she's wearing blue jeans and he's about to "take the leap" or what ever they sometimes say about jumping into marriage with both feet forward. That's my guess!

"Hello, Bakery.....I would like to order a 2 foot cake please"

May 14, 2012 | Unregistered Commentertennis

@SuBee -- thank's for the concern! That's not me. I'm alive and well and my comment is further toward the top with my name, as john (thoj) pointed out, in all lower-case letters. (Also, I might point out, as revealed in a precious post, it also has the silent, invisible "i".)
@john (thoj) -- thank you for the editorial clarification, and that was kind of you to refere to me as "our mel"...for some of us, this really is kind of a family thing....thanks....

my husband's interpretation... "standing on the edge" to take the leap?
Who would actually pay money for that thing?

I am sooooooo glad I waited until this evening to look at the comments and see what everyone thought of this. I just know that if I think any harder to try to figure this out, my head is going to explode into flames.

No pus, no fungal toes, no wonky toes sticking up, and it’s not a zombie-looking corpse foot: I’m good.

I don’t think the feet are floating in water. I think he’s wearing sparkly leg warmers.

@ toetally inappropriate cake bunion in the oven? Bwahahahahaha

@Craig how are you coming with that Unseeing Machine???

@Sharyn grooooooaaaaaannnnnnnnnn

May 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBarbara Anne

why did you post this?!?! Now I am going to spend all night trying to figure out what the point of this cake was....it is all your fault if I cant sleep tonight! ;)

May 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKjn

I am guessing the bride must post lots of pictures with her feet in the picture frame, but I am still confused. Is it supposed to be a wedding cake photo with feet in the frame, if so why are there sprouts of grass and why wouldn't you make it look like a teird wedding cake? Or is it supposed to be and outdoor scene with feet in the frame, if so the white frosting should have been green for grass.

@Fsurica -- Thanks for missing me. I haven't been able to post comments since Friday afternoon, and have been in serious withdrawal. Fortunately, I sent a distress signal to John (aka Obiwan Johnobi) and he figured out the problem. Thanks, John!

@Barbara Anne: I've been wanting to tell you since Friday -- I owe you a box of Kleenex.

What is that I don't even....NO!

May 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKimberly Chapman

It is obviously the feet of God trying to hold back an unruly homemade marshmallow from destroying all of creation.

May 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAddy

I can't believe I missed something this obvious -- it's not Obiwan Johnobi, it's Obijohn Jenhubby.

Wonders where the rest of the groom or bride went.. did they get eaten by sharks? Lol man if this is the wedding cake to each their own I suppose. It probably makes sense the bride and groom..if only I knew what sense it was! Going back to my lovely state of confusion on this one.

@Ainspooh, I love that poem.

@Barbara Anne, It's still the paradox. The trick is how to retain a memory of 'having seen' (to ward off future viewings) without recalling the image itself. For now, the best workaround I have is to click on a random Sunday Sweet or ten, depending on the severity. Or, since "laughter is the best medicine," there are lots of cakes from which to choose that are just funny without causing 'repercussions'. Like the cake where Batman is hailing a fleeing Batmobile, against a backdrop of a brick wall with an inexplicable brick door built in. Or the ever-popular 'Fireman Cake'. Bring on the endorphins!

Sometimes, I...I even watch a...Sandra Lee video. Somehow, watching her defile a perfectly innocent angel food cake eases the memory of...other things, at least, temporarily. There, I've admitted it! Is there hope?!

I think somewhere there's a baker laughing like a maniac- "They'll NEVER guess what it is- NEVER!!"

May 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEric Stott

Maybe they met while skinny dipping? It's a snow-covered bank with someone's feet propped up on it. :)

@Addy "unruly homemade marshmallow" is the most awesome phrase I have encountered so far today and should be the name of a band.

@Sharyn Yay! Welcome back! And grooooan at "deux feet" :-)

There's definitely a problem afoot here.

"I want a white modern cake with 2 love birds on top"
"We've shied from doing cakes that have the live birds on top of the cake, because that grosses out the guests."
"No I don't want the live birds on top.... "
"I've seen it done where the birds are on the side."
"Whatever works best- you're the decorator.... maybe parakeets would be nice instead.
"Oh, no problem I have just the thing."

Later that day-
"With this order, it says they want a "pair-of-feets on the side of the modern white square cake?"
First they wanted a live birds on top... that's just wrong, so we told them we could change the birds to the side of the cake.... then they wanted to change it from birds to a pair-of-feets.

"Don't ask me- just do as you're told."

May 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterA Pair-o-feets

Obviously, it's a two foot cake.

@Craig YOU? You of all people invoked the S.L.?? Come out of the basement and get some fresh air once and awhile, will ya?? You're no good to us in this fevered, delirious state.

Surely it's a matter of going toes up?

May 16, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPernille
