What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Something's Afoot

Sadly, the Sesame Street Paving Company never found the rest of Elmo:

Thanks to Timberly M., who knows the baker was trying for a carrot. I'd say they nailed it.

I wish I had pickles for toes :(

Pickles. Oy. Perhaps it's an ice cream cake. That would explain why there's no naked mohawk baby -- it hasn't arrived yet. I must say I'm glad the wreckorator didn't attempt the baby.

That said, my initial impression was that someone had 'reimagined' the Chili's logo.

@Loo-E Loo-I, don't mess with Gossamer; a lot of people might be offended, and we don't want that, now, do we. I just now ventured out of the bunker myself.

It looks like she burnt the carrot before she placed in on lol

Looks like Elmo poo to me...

Are those MAGGOTS?!?

I think the toenails might be pitted dates.

La la la la, la la la la, Elmo's toes...
La la la la, la la la la, Elmo's toes...
What they are made of, no one knows...
That's Elmo's toes!

My hubby took one look at the photo and said "Hm, carrot cake. What's wrong with that?"
Did I mention he'll eat just about anything? And yes, even a cake with Elmo's toe-fungus covered foot on it. (He's been hardened over the years by my "cooking".)

August 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterElisabeth

OMG, I think it's a CHEESECAKE.

Does that actually make this whoe thing worse???

The only possible way that could be a carrot is if it's the carrot that morphed into the monster in the original, 1950's version of "The Thing", starring a very young James Arness... O_o

August 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

EW! It looks like a monster foot with fungusie nails!

August 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAngelina

First of all, I think the cake looks like a some sort of pressed rice circle. Maybe rice pudding that has been allowed to harden in the sun?

The "carrot" is obviously deviled ham garnished with green beans. Or pickles. Or something else I am obviously NOT going to eat. Ever.

Jen, have you seen this t-shirt?

Even close up, you can't tell what those three appendages are! I'm thinking grubs....
btw- this site has caused me to loiter far too long around the baked goods departments of my local grocery stores, even though I never buy sweet stuff. Just hoping for a "wreck sighting!"

I didn't know they allowed vegetable gardens that close to the reactor core. Now how does one market 'nuclear carrot zombie feet?'

August 25, 2011 | Unregistered Commentergig

that wouldn't look like a carrot from any angle.

I once decorated a carrot cake with real carrots. the recipient deserved it, he truly did. NEVER mouth off to the person baking your birthday cake. I'm sure he's never forgotten.

Thanks for starting that drive! I thought it was a terrific idea and a great way for those of us with limited philanthropic resources to band together and do something great. This post proves what a good idea it is. You continue to impress me!

Ewww they put claws on that foot thing. If that's a carrot then I am a purple people eater.. lol. Poor Elmo now Sesame Street won't be the same.

August 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Ugh, looks like rabbit pellets to me.

August 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

it's a nudibranch!

August 26, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermarci

Holy crap! I never would have guessed carrot. Yuck!

August 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine

I would have gone with 3 horned poop slug... QUICK! pour some salt on it!

August 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBabbers

Green bean toe nails? Should have added a marzipan bottle of anti-fungal medicine.

August 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKathryn

Thank GOD! I freaking HATE Elmo. Ruined Sesame Street.

August 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHeidi D

I looked at it and thought "cat hairball with slugs." My fiance asked what I was giggling at and wondered why anyone would draw an STD on a cake!

It almost looks like an attempt at a Gloomy Bear claw

September 1, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterThora

To me, it actually looks a lot like a gloomy bear arm keychain lol
