A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.
Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Ok, I think I have it figured out. (Inside comment, there.)
What does this have to do with California?
Hey Craig!
Jerry's friend, who is from Boston, came to Jerry's bachelor party and ordered the cake from a local bakery. He apparently repeated himself three times and it still ended up this way.
Good to have you back,
john
epcot! hee.
OK, now I need to hold a spatula party just to confuse the neighbors! Where the heck is Spatula World when you need it?
Hmmm, Jerry must be a cook and having a SPATULA party!! LOL!!!!!
I am from New England and thought they wanted to add a sparkler to the cake. I never would have gotten Bachelor from that. EVER. ;D
Oh Claire, that is an insult to all us New Englanders. Fran was from New York, not Boston. There is a world of difference between a NY accent and a Boston accent (as anyone from NY or Boston will tell you).
This is a classic spatula-party cake obviously using the drippy- plaster technique and caulk faux-poop drops that's SO "nouveau guano". A perfect Home Depot...um... Wait, "bachelor"? Really?
Some people would think the people at the cake decoratory could at least spell "Spatula" correctly when it ISN'T supposed to be there. They'd be wrong.
Oh, everyone should be lucky enough to have a spatula party....
I literally laughed out loud @ Julie's - I think it's supposed to say "Epcot."
Was this done at the same bakery as Falker Satherhood? :)
Wow. Can we be sure the wrecker wasn't shooting for "Jerry's spatula party"? It would make more sense phonetically, and only marginally less sense logically.
Well, this is all kinds of wreckery. Here in Boston some of us pronounce spatula as spatular. Also, you got any tonic to drink when we cut the cake? Or do we just drink watah outta the bubblah?
ha ha! Jen; thanks for stopping by and commenting - the squarespace URL worked in my blogroll. Yay!!
Excuse me, but it's not a spatula party. A spatula is just one piece from a wider selection of kitchen implements. It's a kitchen implement party. Which means maybe he was selling Pampered Chef. At Epcot. ;o)
Seriously, though, I'm from Canada (maybe I shouldn't admit it?) and I got that it was Jerry's Bachelor Party. But only because that's the only way the thing could possibly have made any sense. Although since when has that been a requirement for wreckerators, I ask?
Wicked pissah indeed, Jessica C!
Signed,
Bostonian who is cackling very loudly at this post.
I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be a Spatula Potty, whatever that is.
Spatula?!
Mmmmm.... pancakes.
It's a spatula party!
LOL - Maybe Jerry will get the "Aunt Jemima" treatment...;-D
As a long time Rhode Island resident, I must point out that the person making the order could just as well be from my state. Where "jeet?" is the normal pronunciation of "Did you eat?" and Rs never occur at the ends of syllables!
Hmm, a spackling party sounds fun. So what else besides the cake is Jerry gonna bribe us with to help him finish spackling the drywall?
I'm embarrassed to say I totally didn't get the post until I saw the comments; yup, it makes sense that someone who'd say "Pahk your cah in Hahvahd Square" shouldn't order a bachelor party cake over the phone.
Are you sure it wasn't ordered by the Spaghatta Nadle? Because then it's a spach ampadamant! Asshal :P
Oh dear, it only took two readings of today's post to get it. I guess Ontarians speak New England rather fluently ;)
So, I'll bring the spatula to the Epcot bunker? Or, better yet, a bachelor? [eyebrow wiggle]
i think this is mah favorite so fah. like so many others, i didn't get it. and then i LOL'd. and LOL'd again. it will be the one i think of at random times and burst into laughter and people will stare.
I'm pretty sure that's a king cake. Which is pretty much just a doughnut covered with Gerbera babies and deep fried.
So really, the whole problem with the cake is that is doesn't have enough STUFF on it!
I'm behind on my CW reading (oh, the horrors!), but as a sometimes Boston-area resident this cracked me up. I'm disappointed I don't know anyone around here having a bachelor party, because I would so request that the organizer order a "[name] Spachla Party" cake.
It's too bad the Bostonian friend didn't also order the bachelorette party's cake. I would have loved to see how that would have turned out.
And, for the record, it's not just the transposed "r" issue (they don't just cut out the Rs; the Rs that should be next to consonants get dropped only to reappear between vowels they aren't originally between, hence "Sarahr and I went to Hahvahd") that makes it hard for Californians to understand New Englanders; it's also the fact that they talk at a different pace (namely, more quickly), with syllables getting mashed together.
At first I thought it had something to do with "Spackle." Or was in Esperanto.
Maybe they can write in phonetic Yat, as well.
Come to the Jerry "Spackle" party, and you're sure to get plastered!
Oh my...now THAT made me laugh! My cousin recently got married, and her husband's name is Jerry. I was so glad their wedding cake wasn't wreck-worthy. :)
Um, at first i thought it was supposed to say "jerrys back a party", which made absolutely no sense. But, it did fit with the general furriness of the cake!
Elizabeth B --- me too! All I could come up with on my own was "Jerry's Sparkler Party" or "Jerry's Spatula Party", and neither one seemed quite right. I'm glad there are some people who could interpret Bostonese for me!
too funny. I read the first two words correctly and understood "Jerry's bachelor" but what's a paRty, in Boston it's a "paaaty" there's no R
LOL
