Sunday Sweets: Wintry Wonders
Hey all! john (the hubby of Jen) here and it's my turn to pick today's sweets. It's finally starting to get a bit chilly here in Florida (60 degrees! Brrr!), and that has me in the mood to post a few icy beauties.
Check out this adorable little deer.
And for our mostly fondant free sweet, we have the Abominable Snowman also known as The Bumble from Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. And since 'tis the season to deck the halls, I thought you might appreciate these:
...simple, elegant and fun. Gotta love it.

60 degrees IS cold! We're about 10 degrees cooler in North FL and I'm huddled near the fireplace. Brrrr.
Holy moly, those last two are terrifying!! And I mean that in the positive "so realistic I cannot physically bring myself to believe they're cake" way. So freakin' awesome.
Your site was mentioned on HIGNFY?, although not by name!
Wow. Just when I look at some of the cakes here, and think to myself, "Self, you're really not all that bad for an amateur cake decorator..." I see something like those Christmas balls and want to tear my hair out in envy! Gorgeous, simply gorgeous.
And the fawn? And the Fortress of Solitude? *sigh* Back to the icing bags for more practice, practice, practice!
Merry at Annie's Book Stop
WV: Sankney. When I saw those cakes, my pride just sankney deep!
Second WV: Wolms. Such talent over-wolms me!
The ice shard one is glorious.
i.love.polar bears. and deers. those cakes are right up my alley as an animal lover.
Wouldn't it be awesome if Super Man burst out of the top?
Yes. Yes, it would.
Are the metal prongs on the last one edible? For some reason I can't stop thinking about this! They look so... metal!
Deer Cake FTW!
Killing me with cute!
In defense of John's reference to our "chilly" 60 degree weather here in Florida...it's all relative, people! After you survive living in a sauna all summer, 60 degrees feels downright cold.
LOVE that Bumble!!
Beautiful. I especially love the lounging polar bears on the ice cake :D
How do you eat the deer cake? Do you use a knife on sleeping bambi? The pool it is sleeping in should be red.
I wonder if the 'ice shard/ Superman' cake was supposed to go with this wedding:

That's a very adorable deer. And it appears to have had the mother of all wet dreams. Win.
a big "awwww" for the deer cake...so so so cute!!
I love the ornaments! Amazing and beautiful!

Although you've had many comments about the weather, I thought I'd also add my 2-cents worth. I'm also in Canada and this morning I woke up to my radio telling me it is -38C with the wind chill. A little conversion and it ends up about -36F. 60F is t-shirt weather, -34F is go south for the winter weather! :)
I know it's been said, but little fawns (that's the word for a baby deer, folks) are born in spring, when the spotty patterns on their bodies mimics dappled sun through leaves, giving them excellent camouflage. I have seen fawns hiding near apple trees, where the falling apple blossom petals on the ground also camouflage them beautifully.
All that said, I do adore the fawn cake :)
I thought the last one was a hand grenade before I noticed the plug. I mean, sure, blowing things up is suitable for any time of the year, but man... talk about Grinchy...
Looooove the Christmas light one. I grew up with those lights (as most of us did I would imagine!) and I miss them. My dad and I would sit down and choose what order they would appear on the string (green, blue, red, yellow, etc) and I would hand them to him while he screwed them in.
The deer one is so very cute and the Bumble one is great! And yes, it would be awesome if Superman came out of the top of the first cake! XD
those are so cool! that little deer is so adorable! i want one. and the light bulb is very well done.
60 degrees? you floridian wimps! (i mean that in the nicest way possible of course) come to south dakota where it's supposed to get to 8 degrees tomorrow with a wind chill factor of 30 below! snow and gusts of wind up to 40 mph. welcome winter!
Thanks for spotlighting us!! I almost fell out of my chair when a client emailed and said I saw you on Cake Wrecks!!!!
Thanks so much!
Amy & Christina
I need the Fawn cake. Because, obviously.
Come judge at our Austin cake show and you can meet Amy Eilert of Cake Envy. She'll be here judging our cupcake category and teaching a class or two! :-)
Wow - my little deer on Cakewrecks!? Amongst such beautiful cakes, i´m so flattered - and thankful that it´s in Sunday sweets and not in the wreck-category! ;-)
Thanks for noticing John, and thank you all for commenting - great laugh!
"Humpty" is supposed to be a snowman, right? Love that the cake is yellow, as everyone knows you shouldn't eat yellow snow!
Thank goodness for Sunday Sweets...makes up for all the Wreck offenses above this post !

amazing what you can do with flour and sugar. i just love the last two the ornament cakes and the Christmas light cake eventhough i do not celebrate christmas. i loved so hard when i saw santa's cakes, they made look so mean. sorry santa.
Cupcake Envy's cakes also taste amazing!! Anyone who was questioning the edibility and deliciousness of the last two entries can rest assured that they are mighty tasty!! They did mini-cakes for my wedding. There are a ton of amazing pics of their work on their Flickr page, and they're just awesome. They even teach classes!
PLEASE tell me that fork is real?? That is like the most amazing thing I EVER seen!!! =) Oh and thanks for being a faithful blogger! ;)
Okay - these are fantastic! I love the ornament with cord and the jumble of round Christmas ornaments. But my FAVORITE is the BUMBLE!! Too cool!
Still cracking up at the blow-up doll Santa cakes on page 1-2 as well...!
